OK, for some reason, my girlfriend hates good movies (District 9 - 'Thats disgusting!!!') and likes stupid movies (Sex and the City). Apparently it has something to do with DNA, I dunno.

Anyway, she occassionaly takes me to see kids movies as retribution for me dragging her to the latest Sci-Fi blockbuster. Yesterday, we went to see "Up", the latest animated feature from Pixar.

It. Was. Awesome.

But the almost wordless first third of the movie had me blubbering in the corner like a little girl. And I wasn't the only grown man in attendance crying into his popcorn. I garauntee if you don't mist up at least once in this movie, you have no soul.

My question to the unwashed masses is this: Have kids movies gotten sadder latey? Sure, I remember Bambi's mum copping a .303, and Mufasa getting stampeded by wild buffalo. But goddamn, a kids movie reduced me to tears yesterday, and I need some assurance that its not just me lol.

^^agree, just because it looks cutesy doesn't mean its a kids flick.
There comes a time in every musician's life when they must decide what instrument they should master. Few. If any are ever worthy enough to master. The cowbell.

and I need some assurance that its not just me lol.

It's just you.

As Chopper would say "Harden the F**K UP!" :)

You cried in a movie... HAR HAR!

Now I have gotten that out of the way, yes you are right. It seems movies are becoming really good at pulling your heart strings these days but Pixar are the prosa. I’m sure I’m going to be pulling some seriously strained faces when Where The Wild Things Are because even the trailer to that one was making my vision blur up.

Earn respect don't demand it.
you're all hard on they outside lol, Agreed, sad as FK movie, wanted to off myself after the first 10 minutes. one heartbreaking chi-tty situation right there ombre....

:(When swimming in sh!t, best keep your chin up!

its ok Base u can have a cry with me, my wife calls me a toasted marshmellow hard and dark on the outside but all soft on the inside
I was hooked the first time I saw Toy Story and noticed just how much adult humour is thread in there along with the usual happy kids story. Besides I watch allot of anime and frankly for every 1 kiddie flick/show they make there are 5 that you don't want your kids to see.

QFT: Your computer is smart man. It tells you not to play the second worst PR map [burning Sands] (first is Wanda Shan).

QFT: if you dont get pissed off when you lose you dont care enough

Sure, I remember Bambi's mum copping a .303, and Mufasa getting stampeded by wild buffalo.

That cracked me up :D.

The first Ice Age was sick.

"Up" is Pixars best movie to date IMO. And yes, that opening sequence is very touching and probably one of the best movie introductions I've ever seen.

Besides, I don't think kids movies are getting sadder. It's just that a couple of studios (Pixar and Dreamworks in particular) are getting very, very good at storytelling that appeals to a much broader audience. It's probably unfair to limit them as "kids" movies when both the makers and the viewers know that they're not exclusively for kids. It's just a stigma that comes from being an animated film in Western Society.

Here is a list of particularly awesome things:

dogs

sniping

very spicy chilli

cat claws on people (but still cool on cats)

I love animated movies!

I grew up and cartoons and still like them.

As for tearjerkers, mine is Reign Over Me with Adam Sandler...

I found myself bawling over a film called "Freedom Writers", I thought it was a pretty great film at the same time though.

yeah but this is the internet' date=' you have to expect the unexpected or else you'll get caught out by things you should've expected but didn't. Its exactly like knowing about the stuff you dont know about, that way you know theres stuff you dont know so when you know what you dont know you can say "ah i knew that!"[/quote']
For some reasons most movies completely bore me... Horrors don't scare me and sad films don't make me cry.. (often) Its quite sad actually, i took the whole "not real" thing to far when i was about 13 :( The only movies i can really enjoy are comedies
