Posted April 20, 200916 yr Well thought i'd let you know about a project i plan on working on with the boy when he gets old enough. will give me a few years to get the funds together to be able to purchase what i need, or purchase and store without the huge spend. You may or may not know that i use to own an orignal '66 MkI Morris Mini Cooper S. Sadly due to circumstances that can only be discribed as sucky i had to sell 'Floyd' (as in Pink Floyd who did that wonderful song 'Break Down The Wall' with that line, 'all in all your just anothe "Brick" in the wall', Brick being another nickname for a Mini). ANYwho, use to be on a mailing list with a bloke in the UK who had an interesting conversion for his mini Dorris . . . think the name of the page is pretty self explainatory (o; http://www.spagweb.com/v8mini/ He got the idea after meeting up with another chap at one of the International Mini Meets in Europe called Viku, this is his one which is very nice on the eyes... http://www.geocities.com/jharkola/Viku2.html So will be doing my research up on this, knowing what the road laws are like in Aus, will most likely not be able to license it (let alone get insurance for the sucker!) but with mates who have farms, will be a great bash car if nothing else (o: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6iK4dy74ibY]YouTube - V8 Mini[/ame] Spag's one showing why having two different length front axles is a bad idea [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RlktUKNJq0]YouTube - v8 mini massive torque steer[/ame] [edit] - oh and he painted an cooked those beaut orange rims in his kitchen too (o; Edited April 20, 200916 yr by Heat-seeker There comes a time in every musician's life when they must decide what instrument they should master. April 20, 200916 yr You might want to speak to Jim I believe he has had some experience with this although pretty sure he is a Volkswagen man. http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa188/VisOne_Photo/Signatures%20and%20Banners/VisP.png
April 21, 200916 yr If it's a V8 its autowin for me. GL with your project when you decide to do it, Bit of angle grinding and welding to fit a V8 where once sat an engine the size of your fist
April 21, 200916 yr Author heh the problem i think i'll have is trying to source a 3.5l rover v8 . . . OH and getting it over the pits (o: if i do, think i'll tape the engineers certificate to rear window so the cops dont bother pulling it over (o: There comes a time in every musician's life when they must decide what instrument they should master. April 22, 200916 yr Author not sure tbh . . . will have a hunt for more info [edit] - just looking at the wikilink, says the P76 had a 4.4l V8. Wonder how that compares size wise to the 3.5l . . . April 22, 200916 yr Forget the V8...Go for a Rotary they are a damn sight easier to fit in and the power to weigh achievable is ridiculous. http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee118/bahlye/index1.jpg Car Details CLASS: GT4 CAR MAKE & MODEL: Leyland Mini WEIGHT: 740kgs CLUTCH: Twin Plate TRANSMISSION: Toyota Corona 5 Speed SUSPENSION: MacPherson Struts BRAKES: Four Pot Front / 2 Pot Rear TYRES: Dunlop 200/580x15 ENGINE: Mazda Rotary 12A Turbo CAPACITY: 1146cc Turbo MAX. April 22, 200916 yr Except the noise of a V8 is brutally awesome, compared to a rotors "bumble bee in a bean can" noise, then theres the fact they blow up every 50k's.
April 22, 200916 yr My mate had a rotary and the acceleration was like being on a motor bike. He eventually sold it because he got sick of being pulled over every day by the police to make sure it was street legal. Aresnik [WC] Leiutenant Braaaaaaaarp!
