The defence force issued a report stating for all express purposes we believe our commentment to the coalition force and Iraqi people have being meet above and beyond our stated gains. Which is pretty true our aera of operation is relatively quite, and our troops have helped to rebuild much of the infostructure destroyed during the offensive campaign. We have also helped to train Iraq police and military forces to replace our own troops when they withdrawl. There is little we can do to futher help the people of Iraq and its time we leave.

Of course with all that said you have to also look at the political side of this the Rudd government has campaigned with a withdrawl policy from the get go and are staying true to there promise. The defence force also released a report stating that we blew out our proposed budget by a large margin and the commitment is starting to hurt them financially. With both of these considerations taken into account you can see we have done what we can and its time we withdraw our troops.

Afghanistan is a completely different kettle of fish its no where near as stable as Iraq and is often overlooked by the sensationalized media. We will most likely keep our troops commited there for some time to come but I'm no expert either way my personal feelings on the matter is withdrawing from Iraq is a good idea, while Adghanistan should continue or even be reinforced, thats about all I can think of for now.

Sorry about the spelling but I'm at tafe using IE its teh poo.

Iraq seems to be the new age Vietnam conflict in Aus. And honestly it was probably a battle we never should have committed to.

Unfortunately it is one we are apart of, and had a hand in destroying a somewhat stable country. And to leave it now and just dust our hands of it will be a good and bad thing. Good in the sense that we can actually finish in the Ghan, and bad that we left a country to rubble.

It is not a popular war and no matter what you do it will always reek of badness.

I believe our troops in Iraq did a great job with little force used the SASR were great and should be applauded "Were we were there for the right reasons is another thing, yes Iraq was under dictatorship but the US' neglect for international law leaves us open for War Crime Trials if they ever come about"

The main question is are we there to find a terrorist and bring peace to the country or are we there for America (cos John H and George B are like strange bed fellows) or because of the OIL

I don't know why people keep bringing the oil thing up, like it's some moral crime. It's securing your nation's future virtually, I really don't care if US's deployment over there was purely to secure oil.

yeaaa booooy.

Agreed Sadam was a knob and needed taking care of. What is wrong with securing your nation's future at the same time?

The question is'nt only about "securing your nation's future", the morality problem comes into play when its at the expense of thousands of inocent civilians...

The major toll the Iraq war has had, has been on the civilians of Iraq.

That's what me and wolf mean though. What are you getting at the end of the day for helping them out? A slap on the back? Good on you? Nice feeling? . I'll take the oil. As far as I'm concerned, they've been killing eachother over there for ages, they will keep doing it. If you can take out a dictator or terrorist or two along the way, then kudos.

yeaaa booooy.

You missed under stood me, at no time have i believed coalition forces went over there to "help them out", the whole reason for this war started under false pretences that there were 'weapons of mass destruction...' which, correct me if I'm wrong, have yet to be found?

Sure Sadam was/is an evil bastard, but funny enough, Iraq/saudi has some of the worlds largest oil supply's...convenient.

the only thing i dont like about "securing our nations future" is that they still call it the "War on terror"

<Insert over opinionated response, citing massive e-peen as factual basis for remarks.>

<Insert dismissive argument to all challenging remarks, regarding the posters mother, sister and if applicable, daughter.>

<Insert witty gimmic sign-off.>

But seriously, my take on the whole situation; I don't have the intel from both sides, and therefor I don't deem myself knowledgable enough to have a truelly educated discussion regarding the "why's" about the current Operations in Iraq. If it's ont going to be an educated discussion, then it's a waste of time.

Anyone who so adamently believes one way or the other is purely a simpleton. Unless you've been over there, unless you were apart of the decision making process, unless you knew every single bit of information that was used to make those decisions, you're talking out your ass.

Opinions should be based on facts. People seem to forget this.

Wait so my opinion that emo music is ****-house is wrong because it's not factual? Might want to reword that stabby :p

http://users.on.net/hindes/bigdy/valour.gifhttp://img205.imageshack.us/img205/5224/operationcrownribbon02py7.jpg

yeaaa booooy.

Dismissing whats happening in Iraq, or anywhere in the world as ok, or not worrying about...because we don't have "all the facts", or were not apart of why it happened, is basically living in ignorance...the facts are gathered from various media outlets, if we can't come to a semi-educated opinon about what is happening in the world, are you saying not to worry about it?

Opinions are just that...opinions. Maybe not right or wrong. everyones opinion is different, thus not factual.

[sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

http://i793.photobucket.com/albums/yy213/Frenzal/ANZ.png

well guys... My opinion is... Cant change it... Not going to worry about it... Iraq, Afganastan, the whole middle east have been warring for thousands of years... It's in their blood... I mean, they even blow themselves up for crying out loud.... I personally wouldnt send one Aussie in there to die...

Find alternate energy sources & seal the whole area up & let them kill each other.. Thats what it appears they are good at... Love thy neighbour & live & let live & peace on earth are all great, but, there is so much hate in that part of the world.... It's such a waste....

I will now tend to my family, friends & countrymen & they can do the same... It works for me.... It is "MY CHOICE!" we all have our own will to make a choice... some make poor choices... Respect!

PS.. I refuse to take responsibility for other's choices...

PSS... Frenzal... somebodys opinion is fact! It maybe incorrect or inconvenient, but, the fact is that it is their opinion & should be respected..

democracy is not afraid of an opinion , the measure of its strength is the measure of its tolerance , until iraq had the crap kicked out of it its people werent allowed an opinion , now they are .

Yes, because the media are extremely honest folk and haven't proven to have alterior agenda's and bias' in the past.

The fact remains, I don't know why we're there. Maybe it's oil, maybe it's to get rid of Sadam. Maybe there was honest intelligence that there were WMD's there that was wrong, maybe it was right and they still haven't been found yet, I don't know and therefor I'm not going to judge.

That is a seriously brilliant post. I nearly fell off my chair in laughter!

Australias involvement in Iraq was never anything but a minor political gesture...the fact we are pulling in or out doesnt really effect diddley-squat.

We Are There To Kick Ass And Take Names , Blow Things Up Then Send In Guys To Fix Them , These Contracts That Get Handed Out TO LARGE ENGINEERING COMPANIES AND SUCH During War Time Are Billion Dollar . Blackwaters Contract Was Something Like 500million Dollars as a security firm , And Suprise That The Owner Of Blackwater Is A Close Friend Of The Bushs And Actually Comes From A Very Wealthy Family That Financially Backed The Bush Administration . There Are So Many Different Reasons But We Cant Forget The Guys On The Ground Are Soldiers And There Probably Isnt Anything More Frustrating Than Training Your Whole Life For Something And Never Getting To Implement It In Practise . Sure People Die But This Is What They Live For .
