Ok heres the back ground story I came back from a long weekend in Sydney and the first time I walked into my computer room I saw my PC was off. Something that VERY rarely happens with my desktop I just don't turn it off that often. So I'm like ok maybe there was a black out or something, check the power, the connections and make sure the power supply hasn't fried its all good.

 

Boot the pc up and log into my admin account .......... OK I'm looking at my wallpaper for 5 mins and going WTF. Where is everything no explorer no task bar no desktop shortcuts its all gone so I CTRL + ALT + DELETE guess what. The all important explorer.exe isn't running so I boot it manually through the console. I run anti virus, spy ware all the usual things right away only come up with a basic trojan. God knows what my idiot house mate or his friends have being doing cause my PC is now screwed I made the stupid mistake off not rolling in to a previous working backup.

 

So now I'm here and I cannot even log into my pc it allows me to press the login I see my wallpaper for about 3 seconds and it LOGS ME OUT. Straight away no warning no time to CTRL + ALT + DELETE no time to even right click the screen. I need to fix this TODAY if I can so I can attend my bloody forum members night tomorrow I NEED HELP BAD.

 

I want a way to fix it without reformatting if possible any dos commands or anything like that which can help me out ? If not I need someone to quickly refresh me on reformatting and installing windows.

Safe mode boot. Press F8 repetedly while your computer is loading up, that should allow you to get in.

BS!!!! even in safe mode it kicks me out of both my account and my admin account this is total BS!!!!

thats a doosy, so it logs you out thats very odd. I would say trojan or somethin, but try taking all unnessacry objects out of the computer eg, wirless adapter if you run wireless, internet cable ect because 1 time my computer decided everytime i plug the Wireless adapter in it was gonna crash and reboot on me. Give it a shot

I've tried it all now booting from safe, system restores and command prompts it looks like its reformat time for me. Means I almost certainly need to down load PR again FFS !! THIS SUCKS BALLSZ !!!

now this program scans your computer and will stop programs starting up when you start your computer or log in

BUT bewere some of these will be drivers and OS programs so watch what you delete

 

now what you need is a passworded computer(a warning for people who dont) as people (has happened to me) can hack your computer turn off firewall and install programs on your computer

I cannot log into my computer so I cannot download or install anything I know for sure this is either a virus or a trojan my real problem is I have to reformat and then find the bastard thing cause it might still be in my memory.

 

Anyway I can sum this all up in 1 word .... BAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH !

remember to unplug the internetz...before u do a virus,skyware check....as they often will try and reinstall themselves as soon as you find and remove them..

i have never heard of a virus damaging or infecting other partions but it could happen

but if you cant log-in in safe mode it probley means your explorer programs has been damaged

but i cant help you with that

 

well if my flat mates picked up a virus on my computer i would get out the iron pipe for that job

That will screw it all up for you......

its called linux

If you have access to another computer you could add it as a slave to that pc and run a virus scan. An alternitive is to boot of a linux live cd, I would find you a link but its beddy time. Good luck vis.

Its all over now I'm at 1% of a reformat ..... meh means I have to reinstall all my games and I have lost allot of the downloads/updates and even a few games ohh well.

put in window XP disc into cd/dvd drive and boot computer making sure cd/dvd rom is first boot.

 

In the setup menu you should get the option to repair - see if that works

 

i have re-installed windows xp over itself and not lost any setting or such but i would not recomended it unless you have tried everything else

 

Also coz the computer was off when you found it and it crahses just after boot - try another power supply. You may find part of it crapped itself and when it gets under load or draws power on a specific rail then it crashes

Vis, if your XP is an old copy, I'd suggest seeing if your ISP mirrors autopatcherXP. It'll apply all the updates for you, quota free.

Yeap I tried it all even bothered my geebon brother like I said I was effectly complete locked out of my windows no real if buts or maybes.

This is a relatively old pc about 5 years so I keep most normal none essential programs on C: that included steam, battlefield, company of hereos all games I install allot of mods or addons for. Since its easier to keep them on C: for installers or zipping out mods not to mention my 2nd harddrive only has 40 gig left on it out of 250 I need to clean it out and move allot of files to my external.

Psyrus, Hmm autopatcher sounds VERY useful, as have to periodically rebuild kids PCs. WIll have a look at it.
