Leaving Squad and rejoinging to leave SL position

NOTE: SL = Squad Leader

Time for a rant, sorry guys. I am going to try my damnedest to make a clear point and leave my current ragequit frustration behind me.

For the last few days, I have been playing as SL many more times that I have wanted to. Often there is no squad to join (all are full or locked) and I then decide I had better start one, and immediately people join. When SL, you have some responsibilities; to do the job of a squad leader and to therefore get officers kits, deploy rally points etc.. Why are people shying away from the responsibility of SL position?

Maybe for the same reasons as myself, too much tactics and catering for others playing instead of just playing the game that I want to play - in short, like the commander mode, its not for me, there may be others out there who get more from doing those roles than I do. So why do I end up doing it occasionally, when I'd rather not? If I don't some one less qualified might have to. A sense of duty, perhaps...

[The reason for this thread follows this squared bracket] I am getting sick to death of joining a squad (that has already got at least one person in it) to have the current SL leave the squad and then rejoin, thereby letting me take the reigns. I think that I, having a game name with 'b' at the start of it, get an unfair proportion of the default promotion to SL (which I think is done by alphabetical ranking?).

How about this etiquette for the future from every one who wants not to be SL:

Announce in squad chat, either written or verbal that you do not wish to be SL,

Ask if any one wants to do it, to start a new squad that you will join

Then leave,

Then join the appropriate squad.

The very least you could do is warn the future SL that they are going to be responsible for the squad after you leave, instead of not letting them know and doom the squad to failure.

Maybe you are thinking, why do you care so much? Perhaps this doesn't happen to you? Does your game name start with something higher alphabetically than 'b'? Imagine that every time you play pr, you have to do a role that you don't want to? I want thephotoshop or aussiesniper or Ablack or any one who is qualified to do the job to be my SL. Sure, I'll do SL sometimes, but what actually annoys me, is the say-nothing-just-leave-the-squad-and-rejoin tactic. It's weak, and I hope it is something that only the vanilla players are currently doing with their newest pr 0.6 infatuation.

How often do you find that you are all of a sudden SL, with players yelling at you to do things that you *should* have been doing? - all the while not knowing that you were even SL?

yes the b"s

i always end up as squad leader ,and sometimes its just not what you want to do.

I usually join a game when its already started, see full squads and create(not start)a new one or go commander.

if i form my own squad 9 outa 10 times i'll be off lurking around somewhere and all of a sudden theres guys just popping out around me,then i gotta find an o kit, form a plan,radio/kit check and figure out if the guys with me know what their doing---then gotta get a rally in....

sigh...then we go in and attack

(i do tend to get people killed....,but then thats war)

I would say sticky it but here are already to many of them.

hahah I know!

EDIT: THIS WAS MY 100th POST W00t

Happened in Ejod today, except our normally carismatic SL got unfortunately disconnected. Ended up being the best squad in the round (probably because we were one of few that did the job..)

Yeah I find it annoying when you want a rally and 3 of your guys are waiting including yourself for one person to meet up with the other 2 and the SL. This wastes 65% of your squad fire power. Or you get randoms in your squad who think they know whats best when your following orders from a commander (who knows all on the battlefield from other squads reporting) and giving you shit because they think differently. That gets on my nervous or I tend to ignore them completely and give my orders when needed.

Otherwise I go commander and allot of the time and my team wins of course :D , except once when all the SL's decided to do their own "thing" which tends to lead to our side loosing.

I have to say that when being a commander I notice a few squads tend to sway from orders. I don't take note of whom as I couldn't care less. I sometimes get rouge squads, and do everything opposite to what I say, we win the game because every other squad listens, although I'm not saying that squad did bad because they did good some of the time, but it annoys me because I have to interpolate what that rouge squad does. Then compensate by adjusting the other squads orders.

This ruins the fun for everyone as allot of the time rouge squad A is in the base and heading to a flag to attack which is on the other side. Squad B listening to me already 100m within the flag squad A's heading too. I have to get squad B to pull back to defend for a long.... time while the rogue squad eventually gets there! Squad B gets annoyed for sitting round defending light attacks and waiting for orders and this leads to them going rouge. Eventually squad B doesn't listen and it becomes hard getting other squads organised.

Although I have seen some squads formed purely to help me build. I like to thank those who do ALLOT, as it really helps. But ensure that you look your squad as 6 people following me around is excessive when two really should suffice :D

If anyone whos be under my command or been under a follow Hellfishian as a SL, please drop some comments possibly another thread? as any comments to make the game more enjoyable and points who feel need to be addressed would help allot. Again many thanks to those who win under my command :p

I'm not sure about the alphabet thingo, I was told that the SL was chosen by the amount of time spent in the server

(which you can check if you go into the manage part of the TAB screen)

Anyways, I completely agree with you Matt.

If it is done to me, I use stabby's technique and I express my anger and the fact that it's rude and NOT ON and I leave the squad.

This hasn't happened to me in quite some time

because nowadays I either create a squad and lock it and invite people who I know and will follow orders or join someones squad who I know will be a descent SL,

This is not because I'm an elitist but because I can no longer handle playing with people who refuse or who are slow to work together,

It's not my job as a squad leader to pull people up because they are not following orders or to tell people off for grabbing a stupid kit which isn't really needed,

And I can't stand waiting for a squad member to comply with my orders and move to my position

so I can put a rally down which I have done way too often and just have to stand there like tits on a bull.....waiting.

I would much rather play with decent people from the word go.

If I'm running a squad and you want in just give me a holler and ask for an invite,

if there is a random in my squad I will more than happily make room for you because your a clan member and I would expect the same from you.

TBTH I didn't appreciate you ignoring me the other night when I asked for an invite...

We are clan members! and apart from having a certain expectation and duty IMO to work together

we all need the practice at working together for scrims etc.......I won't hold it against you

Nothin' works better than a quick verbal and a semi-rage-squad-quit.

This is true the squad leader position goes to the person with the lowest SERVER SLOT number.

I honestly didn't know you messaged me to join my squad. My apologies.

I dont lock squads so my squad must have been full. In which case, I would question whether I would kick some one else for any one with a clan tag. I'm just saying that, as yet, this issue hasn't been discussed, and as a clan is there a rule regard it?

Imagine every one in my full squad was working fully and communicating, then a clan member comes along and requests 'in'. I don't know where I stand on that issue.

In practice however, I think we can agree there will almost alwasy be some one in a full squad who is expendable, and in that case, of course a clan member (or indeed any good regular) can make the replacement.

Sorry, for either being afk at the time of your message or otherwise being so consumed in a task that it slipped by me.

Yep, it's a problem. All the nubs are playing and they don't want to be squadleader because they'll either suck at it or they don't know what to do. So, if you see an unfamiliar squad leader, do him a favour, don't join his squad. Instead, make your own, even if you dislike doing so.

I can guarantee that, even if you do suck, you'll still be better than the other guy, cause at least you know how to do things.

I'm the dominatrix!

I have to agree with Matt on this I don't mind SL but if I join a squad and the SL racks of it sucks when you are landed with the role.

AMEN....Thank God someone mentioned this....

I spend more time being SL than i can stand....and it enevitably happens...the only time im not SL is if GruAncH takes the reigns otherwise its me....and i aint all that good (ok im great but i dont want to encourage yas)....

BUT i will add to this.....

NOW there is something WORSE...... That desert one with civilians (both actually) nothing worse than being a civillian and then BANG some doofus leaves and ya dead....Gosh that Ships me something cronich.....

I havnt started to lock squads yet as i dont mind a squad of newbies as long as they listen.....but im starting to find certain players are just more fun than others.

Ohhhh the Curse of the SL ahahahaha.

I'm finding with increasing frequency that during the start of the round people would start a squad then as soon as one person joins, leave so the new person is the SL. Then repeat and start a new squad - never actually being a SL.

WTF is the point of this? If you intend to do this, why start one? Just to go "haha! suxor!" to the unintended SL?

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d191/workingrobbie/Avvy/battlemonkey.gif

Yeha I've seen this 'throw the dummy SL trick' a bit recently.

Isn't it just a symptom of the those times when there's a hiogh proportion of newer PR players who do not wish to 'step up' as SL + when there are few/no vets taking SL posis for various reasons?

i sometimes leave and make another squad, as i don't like locking the squad an inviting.. ill give everyone a crack.. but they get one chance..

if you dont follow orders then you are out on your arse...

i will make my own squad over joining some off tangent random squad that across the map not actually achieving anything.

usually my squad fills up when others get sick of the randoms and join me.

good squad buddies I have come across..

+sinners+ - I can rely on them for teamwork

evilrooter good with helping with strategies and solid skills

stomp greenie - will move with the pack and solid skills

most of teh bd'ers will work under me happily.

you will get kicked if spam the mic or radio commands.. most people cant stand that.. and if you feel the need to give your input to me every 10 seconds, you may find yourself getting kicked as well..

I sigh when its basically my squad against the whole other team because the other nubs on the team are driving apcs because they are cool.. and not actually using them.. or they are off capping a flag that cant be capped..

/end rant

(@AncientMan) why is it that every time see the words solo|work, the bulge in my pants grows bigger and bigger then gets wet?

(@solo|work) !8ball is +SiN+ solo60 the best player in BigD PR? (@ChanServ) solo|work: I think so.

Actually i know of people who do this, and i cant mention there names, BUT they told me they do this NOT because there being idiots but because they are sick of being squadleader and sick of people who are just waiting for them to start a squad so that they can join....

I think its just a way of getting others to share the burdon..

Me i like SL...but only the right people and only when i want to seriously play.....sometimes i just wanna be a sheep tho:)

People that start squads then cycle out really shit me. It is tardish behaviour which ever way they spin it. If I see anyone doing it I will report them to the admins.

Apart from being really annoying it can screw up your team's chances of winning.
