Hey guys, i dont know much, but i know that a fair few of you boys have been in the army or are interested in militaria, so i was wondering if you could help me out.

Im in the Australian Army Cadets and my current rank gives me the right to use a Swagger Stick, or a roughly 60 cm long piece of bamboo wrapped in leather. The only problem is that our unit only has 1 and there are two of us who can use one :disgust:

So what i am asking here is if any of you fellas can link me a website where i can purchase a Swagger Stick

Thanks

Or... (just sayin) you could choose NOT to get a swagger stick and stay completely douche-free?

Seriously dude, the secret to a long and happy military career (and to earning respect and a good developing leadership style) is to give all the bull**** little things a wide berth. "RHIP" is exactly what you *shouldn't* do!

Things like swagger sticks reinforce entirely the wrong sort of attributes we look for in a leader.

/ old fart opinion mode....OFF

ohh okay man look ill take that into account but the fact is....id rather a cool stick! :db:

What he said +1

I can understand. I was in the Royal Canadian Air Cadets and I get that you worked for that stick.

Contact military surplus shops would be my advice. Maybe you could score a cool antique one somewhere. Possibly donate it to your corps when you age out giving it a story if you end up being outstanding.

Enjoy it, I had a great time in Cadets. They ruined cadets in Canada..... You get rank as you get older instead of earning it. Stupid parents are wrecking everything.

I would also somewhat take the advice above if it was me. Don't bring it out every day but maybe at ceremonies and parade days. Then you could get a cool flashy one!

What you mean I can't Rep Bammo again what the hell. Ohh well have a pat on the back anyway well done that man. :hi:

Anyway you might try http://www.shop.hassayampasurplus.com/, http://www.cadetshop.com.au/ or maybe http://www.wellingtonsurplus.com.au/

There is a massive ebay like militaria site but I have never had any need to book mark it and I can't find it right now.

Also look on ebay heaps of militaria stuff there mainly US and UK but you might find something.

Otherwise take the sage advice already given and ignore your deep seeded need to obtain all things of rank that show you care more about yourself then those you lead.

Look guys thanks for all your help, and ill take your Old Fart views into account haha, but ive worked hard to reach this rank, and i have worked harder to be appointed Adjutant. So my heart is set on acquiring this stick I saw my Adjutant use when i was a recruit.

Thanks for the help guys. :hi:

All jokes aside.

Lets look at some hard evidence. Firstly.

Harry Potter looked pretty cool with a stick, well, I've never seen any of her movies but by judging the amount of cool kids that line up outside target to get her new book, I'd have to say she's pretty darn cool.

I reckon you'd look pretty cool with a nice stick, and even if you don't atleast you have something to flick dog crap off the bottom of your shoe with.

Hope that helped.

It's not about the size of the stick it's the way you use it?

what are you going to do with it.... Swagger

I'd rather have a ban stick right about now...

Try a Saddlery store , ask for a hacking cane.

Thats what a swagger stick actually is.

Dont know of any real subaltern's who'd carry one. I definitely didn't.

You will look like a poser with one.

Unless your unit actually rides horses ??

I defiantly didn't.

ummm... I do not think that word means what you think it does.

:hi:

But otherwise completely agree with you

Oops :shower:

The Princess Bride = awesome movie

Me = poor speller

get a gun....

gun beats stick any day....

what are these damn cadets teaching you!

Sounds like its time to give up cadets and sign up before your forever doomed in the eyes of your future oppos.

I could make you one if you'd like. Doesn't look beyond my skills.

Something like that?

What about a polish axe handle. I remember seeing those around.

I don't know if they are corps specific though...

Going by sameee's photo, i think you should be able to saw a pool cue in half,

Use the pointy end,

And be able to show not only what rank you are BUT how resourceful you are

Even if the other kiddies make fun of you :haha:

Hahaha ohh some of these replies :cowboy:

Well thanks for all the help, i have been searching online and i cant find the one our drill pam allows, so looks like ill make my own and ill be carrying half a pool cue with a bit of scrap metal on parade haha :animal_rooster:

Pool cue and a number 8 ball

Actually here is how I would do it. Go into a pool hall and find the ****tiest looking cue - bent to all hell. Buy it.

Cut it so you end up with roughly the centre 1/3rd.

Could add a shell casing to the end for protection against wear or bend and silver solder a bit of copper sheeting. 45-70 casing otherwise. 45acp might work too.

The swaggar stick was made by a POW of the boer war - odds are you have slightly less free time than he did but I reckon with a bit of work and careful planning you could make something nice

Dimentions: 29" (74cm) L x 1 3/4" (4.5cm) W x (at the grip)
