This is part trouble shooting part question.

Can a screwy no boot unpartioned hard drive cause issues on boot?

I've being having issues with the PC not booting, randomly shutting down and generally being a right POS.

Today it shut itself down at some point when I was at work and when I got home I had to fiddle with it, cold start then boot it to get it to finally start windows and let it doe a system restore.

More fiddle and now its up but my 3rd Sata 2 hardrive Media Storage is saying it needs to be formated and freaking out.

Hoping I haven't lost the data on it any ideas?

mate, try D/Cing the nonboot HDD and see if your trouble persists,

sounds weird to me mate. usually it wouldnt have any impact on the boot drive or the system stab.

Ive had bad drives stop booting but not make the PC crash. Hang for a bit but not crash.

Meh ! if its a dodgy drive copy what you can before it dies and bin it asap

I had to disconnect the DVD RW to get it to boot as well.

Could that also be causing the wierd boot issues?

i had a problem with my booting a while ago for a couple of months, and it turned out to be a faulty DVD drive that wasnt showing up in device manager, or my computer, and not even in bios..

once i replaced it, no more boot issues.

hmm, having to D/C your DVDRW would maybe suggest a lack of power issue or a motherboard problem.

Could the boot settings somehow have changed? You know how you can select to boot from drive X or the DVD or USB or w/e when you're installing Windows?

I have had allot of issues getting the DVD drive to work after recent Win7 updates apparently its not unheard of might be the cause of my problems.
