Using Paypal

Hi. I want to buy some things online. Here:

http://www.bawidamann.com/store/stickers.html

There's also some cool t-shirts.

http://www.bawidamann.com/store/apparel.html

I found out I can put money from bank account into Paypal

(as I don't have a CC). Has anyone else done this and how

safe do you feel it is ?

It requires linking Paypal with my bank account, or at least

letting Paypal have my bank account details. I am very cautious

with anything like this online.

Any advice or experience with this ?

Ha :p

PayPal is regarded as an extra layer of security when purchasing online and has an excellent track record with security and privacy. As an Austalian listed business (the PayPal AU site), it has to follow the same laws setout for the banking sector and all finanical service businesses by ASIC and APRA, basically the government auditors.

Also by using PayPal, you maybe able to lessen your bank fees to international sites, some banking instutions charge a fee or surcharge for international purcharses.

I have my PayPal account linked to a bank account of mine, I go to the website, purcharse via PayPal and it automatically direct debts my account. Sometimes it'll take acouple days to show on my account or it could go through striaght away.

Made several purchases via PayPal with it being linked to my debit card. It's awesome, never any hassels and I believe you even get some kind of insurance coverage with PP as well.

If I recall correctly the first time I signed up for a PayPal account they verify the correct bank account details have been provided by send depositing between 1c to 10c to the bank account and than you have to verify how much was deposited before you can make payments with paypal.

I have used it 1000 times with eBay etc. and making donations to BigD and others and it has always been 100% secure and effective. I almost trust them more than my bank.

OK. Thanks a lot to everyone who replied. I hope tomorrow is not the day

the haxtravaganza hits Paypal. :)

Cheers - and thanks Madhouse, I know you are employed in that sector somewhere.

Yeah Sandy, what they said, have used it for some time without grief.
You have to 18 to use it don't you? I wouldn't mind it, because it's better than letting the site have your CC or Bank Account details + many sites use paypal exclusively.

yeah but this is the internet' date=' you have to expect the unexpected or else you'll get caught out by things you should've expected but didn't. But as long as your not totally and utterly daft, then you shouldn't be foolish enough to send bank details over email or accept what comes from some email as law without first checking it for validity.

These sort of scams are perpetrated on a number of different sites not just pay pal or sites using it.

Simple solution only buy from trusted sellers and never accept money back from them if you suspect they are trying to de-fraud the system.

I've recently had my commonwealth credit (debit) card details stolen and used without my permission but I'm not sure where the security breached occurred. Since I buy off Ebay, Airsoft websites, Pet stores & Skype using that card it is also linked to my Pay Pal account.

I strongly suggest you get or create a separate account to use as your online purchasing account. It could be a credit card, a credit debit card or just a debit account. I think the middle is safest option especially if you then add another layer of protection and use Pay Pal for the majority of your spending.

My partners card details were also recently used in an online transaction first a90 cent transaction followed by a attempt at $500.00 but I only keep like 50 in there. Its a debit account

Hmmm this is interesting, cause my mothers card which was also hooked to a PayPal account was used (3 months ago) to purchase some laptop from china, a pizza in Spain, some take-away in Canada, and some other stuff in Germany and Russia, (all under 10 min) at which point it was shutdown and all items revoked by the ANZ automated system. +1 to ANZ :)

That said, it was a designated online card with special privileges etc, however, I instantly thought of PayPal when I found out...

Just becareful of the internation purcharse surchagre on those.

It doesn't cost me a thing to have my PayPal account linked to my bank account, the 'fee' is in the retail exchange rate PayPal uses, which is nominal and normally no more than $0.01-0.02 difference to the wholesale exchange rate(the one you see on the tv), this is ofcourse bigmoney for PayPal considering the amount of financial transactions a day they would handle.

2.5% of the AUD Value, so that can vary from a few cents to i think my largest was a few dollars when I bought 2 of the game packs in the steam sale.

Yeah, I think you do.

I turned 18, went to go get a paypal account, and it rejected me cause I wasn't 18 yet.

Its like getting your ID rejected. By a computer.
