Yeah, so I only just bought my new Corsair HS1's before christmas, but last week, some lovely cleaning lady comes into my room and decides the vacume cleaner need to nom on the cord and subsequently the soundcard for the headset. So that's all broke.

 

Now; I am looking for a new pair of headphones, nothing above $140, as I will only be getting a payout of around $100 for the broken headset. I dont want to look like I am wearing a space-age wi-fi system on my head also.

 

I have my eye on a few things, but thought it best if I asked the gamers first see if they bring up anything I didn't notice etc. So if you have any advice, please feel free to give :hi:

Plantronics Gamecon 777 is a good one. Overall very good headset for under $100. I dont find the surround sound to be that great TBO (you can turn it off), but the USB sound card does make the quality alot better then just using inbuilt sound.

They aren't pretty, they aren't exactly 'cozy', and I dunno what an audiophile would say about them, but the ability to be 'on comms' whilst making dinner, sitting on the throne, or otherwise wandering about the house is priceless!

I really do like mine.

The notorious Gamecon777, I have my 3rd set actually sitting in a draw behind me, the first two pairs got replaced by warranty, so I don't dare touch them, except for now till I get a new pair

 

Still loving the HS1's I had. Pity Umart doesn't stock them anymore. Means I have to go to PCCG, which means postage.

yeah they kinda hurt my ears after a couple if hours, but as edd said they are great fior when wondering around the house doing stuff and still being able to be apart of the conversation.

Yeah, I get the same ear-hurtyness with teh logitech wireless ones, but it's worth it.

Me & a mate bought a pair each, but I can't hear the wifey... which is a reasonably important factor in both relational harmony and gametime maximisation.

Slightly off topic, but my mate buys a $75 headset, doesnt use the mic, complains that he wants a better one. Goes out, buys a razer one for like $200 from a really overpriced store, and still doesnt use the mic. And he uses his speakers at the same time o.O He's just a 1337 C0D F@N30Y.

A few weeks earlier, i go out and buy a $25 logitech pos, but it works. it hurts to wear it for about two hours, the speaker qualitly is terrible, but the mic is alright. I dont even use the speakers on it. i just use my mini system plugged into my mobo on auxillary mode.

 

Moral of the story, dont buy a $200 headset, if you have a perfictly good $75 one. Or even better, buy a $25 pain machine. Its just gonna break on you, no matter what brand it is. Unless you get like an aircraft one. they dont break. but they're like $700.

I'd imgane its insanely conftorble, the ear peices would mute out most ambient noise from around you, and i think it looks really cool.

I just brought another 2 sets of Plantronics Gamecom 367 Closed Ear Gaming for $38 each and frankly I've said it before. On a quality vs price they are the best your going to get. They are also very comfortable and it doesn't matter what you buy as long as you look after them.

 

That means getting out of bad habits and into good habits.

I've got that headsets bag I did work experience at Whitsunday Airport and the helicopter company had a big stack of all these bags that they didn't want, so I kept one for me and one for dad. I use it for my AD-700's when I travel, they just fit but keep them from being bashed around etc.

I'm in the market for a headset. In reality i'd prefer a mic only setup as I use my speakers for sound but it seems these don't exist aside from terrible desktop mics. Also looking at the cheaper end of the spectrum (probably not willing to pay much more than 40-50 bucks). From what I can see a platronics 355 or 367 looks like a good option.

Opinions?

Also is it preferable to go USB rather than the 2 jacks?

I was going to get one when I bought my AD-700's but so far I've just been using the Logitech headset around my neck with the mic sitting near my mouth.

 

Also, it depends on what soundcard you've got. If you have a decent card, then going with the jacks is the best option. But if you're using onboard then I think USB might be the better option because the USB dongle does the actual conversion stuff that needs to be done.

hmm after some reading I'm starting to like the idea of a noise cancelling mic, especially if i'm going to use my speakers. Also spotted a 377, open ear design so I can still hear wifey when required, can't seem to find a price though...

I highly recommend the overlooked Roccat Kave set, 5.1 set with USB for power but sounds pumps from your sound card so you dont get lower usb quality sound. Comfy, bendy mic, has 4x40mm speakers (2 in each ear cup thingo) and nice sound

I don't get it either but it works. Comparable to g35 with only 2 speakers, one in each and being 7.1

I have these, I don't particularly recommend them. My last headset being a "virtual 7.1" Plantronics 777, I honestly noticed no difference in the surround sound. They are closed-ear, which is pretty nice, but they're also very heavy, and noticeable on the head; I found the Plantronic 777s much more comfortable.
