GEE GEE Boys, Girls, Gents and Ladies

This is a little piece of a PM some of you would have received tonight. Its something I have decided to share with you all. Some will agree with me without hesitation or qualm some will not. Those of you who know me well and have being my friends for years will certainly be the former while I'm sure there are many who will be the later. Either way it matters not to me what you take away from this. Its not something to taken lightly though because as you all know I am not a man of halves or indecision.

I really enjoy this community and I keep coming back not for PR as its is as dead to me as a dinosaur it just doesn't know it. No I come back as I mentioned to B earlier today because regardless of our ages, occupations, views or the thousand of other differences we have we all agree on one thing its good to help your mates. It doesn't matter if its giving advice on the forums, picking someone up on your way out of base or organising a day at the pub. The simple fact is we get in get things done; give a hand where needed and have fun the whole time.

Don't bother to flame me as you will only make yourself look stupid. Finally before you let off some rant I have no issue with calling PR dead. It is a simple truth I have known for some time I am a fan boy of some description and PR is certainly worthy of the time and effort many have put into making it what it is. That said it needs to move on as the BF2 engine only shackles it to this time and place. I am no R-DEV and I don't know where PR is going right now nor will I put out any information claiming otherwise and I will certainly not put up with any from any one else.

Until I see PR on a new engine with fast ropes. I kid I never saw what the deal was with fast ropes like I don't die enough in helicopters already. It will always be my past and not my present or future.

Again GOOD GAME and I will see you all in game sooner then later.

Sad to see you go Vis - people can't stay on the same game forever. I disagree with PR being dead, otherwise many people wouldn't bother contributing to it (to a point it is sort of like saying further improvement upon it is a waste of time, which I strongly disagree with). Yes it is moving on to bigger and better things but for now the BF2 mod is the only thing we have to cling onto. I completely respect your personal opinion though, if PR is dead to you, so be it. Project Reality still means a great deal to a lot of people though and people have to understand you can't just state that sort of thing as fact and not expect resistance (was unsure with how you worded it).

I and everyone else hope to see you around sometime in the near future, you have always been a very respected member of the community and your contributions have been important to making bigD the place it is.

Cya Vissy, I will miss you :(

I do 100% agree that PR is dead. The only reason I came crawling back was because of the people that I left behind. Unfortunately even they are dispersing and I'll have to head the same way again.

On the topic of shiny auscam...

the sound they made while bush walking made it seem like I was doing mean things to little furry animals inside my pants :p
ahh vis, will miss your rage in MoW :p (will have to have a game down the track mate) have to agree with you but, PR just isnt what it used to be for me, however its not just the direction its taken, but alot of the newer community lets it down in some points (thats my opinion so dont even bother argueing with me.....) anyway mate, when im in brissy will need to get together, will shout ya a beer.

Hmmm perhaps I have worded this a little poorly I'm not leaving/quitting never playing PR again. Its more my over stated way of saying some akin to Rhodesy here "PR just isn't what it used to be for me" its simply not. What is propping it up for me is not the updates, shiny toys or possibility of a port/inclusion into ARMA 2. Its just our community and the general unspoken bound we have more over its the players who have come, gone and the new faces I see every game.

Sorry if I've offended you Ryza but I can state it as my own personal truth. Also like I said I do not mean to belittle those who have contributed to either in the past, present or the future. Its just the limitations of engine that made me so sad. Now the ARMA series fan boys aren't going to like this but even the port/inclusion there strikes me as silly. I can't help but be reminded of the of BF series when ever I play ARMA the series they strike me as being so similar. Not in game play or modality but in the bugs, issues, glitches constantly needing retrospective updates to fix. Maybe they are just before there time or unfinished I don't know it just seems sad to always be dealing with these engines that limit the player base even further.

Anyway got to go to work.

I'd argue that the lack of coordination and teamwork is simply due to the unwillingness of people to go commander (myself included). The commander chair isn't necessarily boring, but unfortunately this is only if people actually listen to him.

For the commander position to work effectively, he needs to be able to organise the every squad's composition and control the objectives of every single squad. When the commander is able to do this, and the commander is competent, everyone benefits. Unfortunately, the only times where the commander is given the opportunity to control his team have almost been limited entirely to community nights.

In the 4-5 times I've had the opportunity to control a team in such a manner, the teamwork does suddenly appear. An example of this was the practice match between ANZ and the community, where the world cup team was certainly on the cusp of defeat.

The few other teams I've been able to do this however have only been on muttrah and barracuda.

If squad leaders were open to the idea of being organised by a commander, teamwork would return to the game.

Currently plays as yedrellow.
PR isn't dead, you're just over it, which is fine. PR's got a very long life span ahead of it don't worry... You'll see with 0.95, there's a lot of very cool things that we can still do to keep people interested. But not only with PR:BF2, there's the other engine projects that we're working on too, some not even announced ;).

+1 Me and BL4CK1E were playing on a US server and there was a commander giving orders to all the squads all the way through.

At fist we were like WTF when he organised the team into a convoy on karbala, but then the teamwork that followed was excellent. We were actually using strikers as transport and covering the infantry and there was minimal losses due to the commanders communication. It was one of the best games I have ever played.

never played a PR round with a commander at all over the past few years.

You're not going. No one ever really stops playing PR. Sure, we take a break but one day in the not too distant future you'll be back. Just like a lot of the old guys, we never really get sick of it, we just need a break every so often.
"We play Wagner - scares the hell outta them!"

This is a very good point. There are new gamers being made every day. BF2 is just limited by being 5 years old.

Its the standalone PR game that i have my eye on. I dont really follow the updates but hows that going? And PR Vietnam, i havent heard about that for a bit. Any news for an old bugga out of the loop AncientMan?

The only reason that happens (especially on Insurgency) is due to the fact the BLUFOR have so much time to play with. We have 2 hours while they have double that to organize themselves. TG is the best place for getting a game like that ([R-DEV]fuzzhead is a good commander)

I agree with numbers on the commanding part, part of the failure of the British team on the Lashkar FMS was due to the fact that 2 of the squads didn't even bother to talk to me about what they were doing, nor passing intel.

Bye Vis!

I didn't get the pm :( But you won't be leaving the community will you? Just BF PR?

RAGE I SAY RAAAGE!

I don't find it disliking; The arma engine is still far from optimized, many players cant fight in the heavy urban areas [myself included] due to a drop in FPS.

BI support PR being ported because they get the A-Rab moneyz, but I think their time would be better put into their stand-alone release.
