Logitech MX518 hands down.

Unbeatable quality for price, feels 'right', adjustable dpi, cool colour scheme, has a back and forwards button for internet browsing and so far for me (~2years worth of use on non-mouse padded desks) the little runner things have held up remarkably.

Pretty sure its less that $50, I got mine from JBHIFI for $50 on sale about 2 years ago and I haven't looked back.

$33 from MSY (Which I assume is in Perth)

yeah but this is the internet' date=' you have to expect the unexpected or else you'll get caught out by things you should've expected but didn't. Its exactly like knowing about the stuff you dont know about, that way you know theres stuff you dont know so when you know what you dont know you can say "ah i knew that!"[/quote']

Yeah I think I saw the Logitech MX518 in Jbhifi the other day, I cant find it on their website though. Will have to have a look on monday.

Several product reviews on the Zalman FG-1000 have put me off it. Apparently you need a large deskspace (which I dont have) and its design is made to make vertical movement faster, but this also makes it harder to make smaller precise. movements.

Personally I wouldn't touch the fg1000 until some glowing reviews came out, mostly because the standard style mouse has been out for a long time, and things are sort of designed around the assumption of that style mouse. That being said I use my joystick as a mouse as well when I'm flying (the HAT switch at the top can be used as mouse movement) and it's not too hard, but as you said precise adjustments are nigh impossible with such an imprecise mechanism.

I quite like my $89 G500 from logitech. The 3 side buttons mean that finally I have all my voip programs mapped on the mouse (BF2 voip, TS, Mumble). The 5700dpi is stupidly high, I can't see how anyone could ever use that. Even if you turn the ingame sensitivity way down, it still feels like your character is a cold turkey crack addict rehabilitation patient who has just been startled while daydreaming. About a 1cm movement on the desk translates to 0->1680 pixels very quickly.

My major qualm with the G500 is the placement of the DPI sensitivity changers.... which is sort of integrated into the left click button. Most of the time this is no issue, and in fact it is quite a convenient placement... however in the heat of a PR round, I have too quickly estimated the position of the 'decrease sensitivity' button, and ended up firing off the RPG while crouched behind a wall. Suffice it to say, I was unpleased. So now I am extra careful and it has indeed cost me some kills due to a slower reaction time.

I've only ever had one mouse: a Logitech MX510.

I think I got it for $25 or thereabouts, 5 or more years ago.

It's been very faithful, however there are a few issues that I've had with it:

- The black plastic-y parts are coated with some rubberised crap that turns gluey after a while and attracts gunk and dust. My mouse gets very filthy and it's hard to clean.

- Recently I wanted to remap my buttons, specifically the back button as a keystroke (in this case, to the number 3, for fast melee switch on TF2), so I downloaded the software.

After an update to the software and a run around on PR, I noticed that the minimum mouse move distance had increased, which made it very difficult to aim precisely on long-distance targets.

I've since uninstalled the software and am happily living without remapped buttons.

As I understand it, the MX512 and MX518 are superior to the MX510, so I would recommend getting one of those.

As a side note I opened it up today in an attempt to clean it and removed the small spring that makes the mouse wheel go "click" every few degrees of rotation.

It's still not a free-spinning mouse wheel (no bearing in there) but it's much better now!

Do a search here on BigD for my history with gaming mice/micessssesss anyway I have used, broken and had die on me so many "gaming" mice that is not funny. So the last time I went out and got one of these.

Thats the sort of thing im looking for, thanks.

Cheap but just what I need.

That does look BADASS!!

I got a cheap $20 microsoft intellimouse optical 1.1a in black from K-mart, it has 5 buttons and mouse scroll plus holds strong even when i beat the hell out of it. Only down side is you can't change the movement speed unlike all the others, so not the best gamers choice but it does the job for me.

There . Is . Only . One . Reality

INGAME: MosquitoPR

I can't see how anyone could ever use that.

Only time I ever use the High DPI setting, is when im in Armor, very very handy.

Youll be able to spin the turret 180' in 2 mouse strokes. BUT the mouse

needs to be able to switch back n forth pronto.

In regards to the FireGlider, Id go for the "FireGlider Black" as it has a Lower

DPI step at the bottom end. True the Top end DPI is 2500, but again, most

of the time ull never use it. (imo, you will use the 2500 most of the time

compared to the 5600 lolz)

FireGlider Black

Though a quick price search for both turns up under the same product???

Home mouse G5 = Awesome, Strong (lol) DPI 400-2000 ($?? sale at EB years ago)

Work mouse Gigabyte Ghost GM-M8000 = Pretty good for price, DPI Adj button just died. Build quality is a little cheap. DPI 400-4000 ($80 a year ago roughly??)

PCPP magazine consistently say the Coolermaster Sentinel is the best mouse buy around under $100. Looks like it's on special at PCcase gear for $75.

If I were getting a new mouse (not far off now, my trusty MX510 is fading) I'm getting this.

Wow that does look pretty darn good for the price. Great feature set, although now that I've used a mouse with 3x side buttons, I'm never going back to two :)

Until recently I had a Logi G5. Was a great mouse, but I wore out the left click of all things quite early on. It'd sound like it clicked twice and felt a bit cheesy when clicking, then in a fit of PR rage I mistook the mouse for a stress ball and ruined the mousewheel :p So I've upgraded to a G500 and loving it sofar. 3 Side buttons, all kinds of programmable crap I haven't touched yet and a brilliant 4 direction wheel. It's also very comfortable and has a nice weight, so gets a big thumbs up from me!

If I didn't get my G9X I would probably have bought one of the CoolerMaster mice, Very sleek and nice. btw Psyrus I've seen mice with keypads on the side of them, maybe you'd like one of those :p. All in all I personally would recommend a G9 or any mouse with the adjustable DPI, makes so life so much easier.

I got three years out of a MX510 was a great mouse, till the right button started double clicking and I peeled its cap back trying to fix it, replaced that with a G5 a few months before the G500 came out, it can be a nice heavy mouse, I've only ever used the 4000dpi for heel spin celebrations at the end of the round *mental note; is also good for tank turrents*

looks like there are some good mice on offer will pass this link on to a mate who is about to upgrade.

this the sort of mouse you talking about

that's exactly what i HAD but I'm to old and slow and couldn't get used to it (look it took me years to get over not using a ball mouse), i still use the tarantula keyboard tho - but old habits are hard to get over - so the 3 button m$ intelimouse works good enough for me.

m00

G5 imo is one of the nicest mice available.

Nice button placement, simple design, good precision.

Its only for the super cereal MMORPG players. IE the biggest losers on the face of the earth. You don't need a mouse with that many macro buttons its just stupid.

You really don't need more than the 2 thumb buttons for what we do. Even the DPI settings are that important.

I can think of a use for 6 of those macro buttons, I guess I'm a half biggest loser in the world then. My social ineptitude makes up the other half though.

I've never really understood how gamers can chastise or make fun of another set of gamers, as they both share the same interests, and one group simply plays a different blend for arguably a larger share of their life. What makes their choice so wrong that they are now open to ridicule by gamers and non gamers alike?

I personally don't tell anyone outside of my gaming circle that I play computer games because I know the stigma that is attached with it (and incidentally, I fall right into the stereotype barring the excessive weight) and how it can change peoples' perception of you. What defines someone as a loser, especially to be categorically named 'the biggest losers on the face of the earth'? Are suicide bombers now classed as less of a loser than a MMORPG player, heck... what defines a loser? Even if those comments are said in jest, it doesn't change the fact that there is a fair amount of prejudice against those types of gamers and I feel it is highly hypocritical coming from other gamers.
