Why [R-Dev] Eggman thinks he's on the right track with PR0.6

http://realitymod.com/forum/t23228-why-i-think-were-on-the-right-track-with-pr-v06.html

Not everybody will like v0.6. And frankly we don't really care because a good portion of the Devs are pretty hard core tactical gamers and most of us feel pretty good about how v0.6 plays.

We also know that PR can be incredibly annoying to play when your squad is bad. That's the trade-off for it being incredibly fun to play when your squad is good. C'est la vie.

I've been playing v0.6 betas as much as possible. Probably more than any other beta because with the open beta process we can get a really decent feel for how things are working (or not working hehe).

==

What I have noticed that really makes me believe that we're on the right track is this:

When your squad pauses to have a typical online gaming cluster-funk, the longer that cluster-funk goes on the higher the probability that you will be punished for it (typically by being completely wiped out by the enemy).

Example 1: Squad needs to regroup to set a rally point. 3 members are nearby. 1 is off dick heading in a helicopter. Another is confused about where to go and another is off Spec Ops'ing. The 3 standing around take long enough the they all get pwned.

Example 2: Commander sends Squad 1 to defend CP A. Squad 1 takes too long to get it together. By the time they are nearing CP A, Commander sends them to counter attack CP B which was just lost (probably because all the squads are taking too long to respond). Squad 1 is now disorganised, trying to regroup and in the process of having a cluster-funk the entire squad gets wiped out.

I like the fact that to play PR you need to be "switched on" and I think that the current v0.6 beta release has that aspect more strongly ingrained in it than any other release of PR.

Not saying that happens ALL the time, nor am I saying everybody will like that... but I haven't had that sort of feeling from too many online games, and I've played a lot of them.

Cross posted for maximum viewage.

Bottom line is guys: If your squad isn't coherent and doesn't get their shit together, you WILL suck.

Spread this to the new players who get into the server, maybe we can groom them in the coming week before release so that they don't ruin the game for their team.

Knowledge is power.

... and so is napalm.

I had to fix some glaring spelling errors in there but nothing that altered what he was saying, I do like how the dev's are taking the IDIOT influx that PR has received as of late.

I thought the spelling errors added character to his post :(

THANKS VIS! YOU RUINED EGGMAN'S POST! :(

/shin kick!

PS: I'm joking!

Doesn't sound newbie friendly... imagine the tards ruining the rounds.

I think there will be a lot more kicking from squads in .6/

I tend to do quite a bit of squad leading in .5, but I've never liked to kick people , I know there are heaps of people that just want to play a game. If one person is doing their own thing, I just work with whoever I've got, If the majority of people in the squads aren't playing as a squad, I just leave....

In .6 however, I think I will be asking more from people, and if orders aren't followed.....insta-kick

With the current influx of vbf2 clowns/noobs/knobs/newbie’s/retards ect .6 looks like it will be very frustrating, more so then now :( . I thought they ditched the whole 3 squad members needed to drop a rally?.

True, true, but this is something the vets are used to.

New version comes out...

...influx of vanilla players.

...first week or so is mainly chaotic gameplay. we have to explain all over again that there are no parachutes, and choppers have a warm up period, and you have to hold down T to request a kit etc

..and eventually we can play the game how it's meant to be played.

I'm looking forward to this version though, i'll be commanding much more often.

I can't express how pleased I am with the devs direction on the mod and their steadfast refusal to make a one mod fits all type of game. They have a vision, are sticking to it and I'm loving it. Tactical no BS gameplay all the way :D
I agree with ya wolf, its good to see that they arent wilting to the n00b a$$ vBF2 pressure and keeping the sites on keeping it realistic and making it such an awesome mod too watch, play and ultimately admire it.
Only problem with mortars is people are gonna bitch something chronic about getting noob-mortared so badly that it will make the noob-tube look like a great way to die. Though I will not be part of said bitching, IMHO mortars will be the sweetest anti sniper/HAT weapon in the game :D Photo you and your rooftop HATing are going down.

I'd like to see the mortars not have a huge splash radius, but a reasonably high "Affect" radius. so you can't get wasted on a flag by one mortar team, but you will get the fuzz, and will find it hard to return fire on advancing enemy.

If it was done this way, only skilled mortar teams with a spotter would be able to get instant kills on the first or second shot.

Not really.

The main complaints about the n00b tube are the suiciders who do it at ~2m and kill themselves in the process.

If it's a well articulated, coherent and skilled barage from mortars I don't think I'd have a problem with it. Sure I'd bitch and moan about not being able to defend myself, blah blah blah, but the mortars will undoubtedly require skill to use. Some average n00b won't be able to come in and pick on up and use it.

At least, that's what I'm hoping!

Ver 7.0 is way way way way way way way way TO FAIR AWAY to start bitching about it already.

Haven't found this on the PRM forums or here... when is 0.6 coming out? I just had a look at my stats and I found out that the:

USMC/UK have a win ratio of 0.55

MEC with 3.2

PLA with 1.56

Insurgents with 3.5

http://bf2stats.gamingsa.com/servers/bf2stats/?pid=48726835

Had no idea the USMC was so underpowered, I really hope 0.6 has made any necessary changes to balance this out.

[EDIT] I had a look at other player's stats and they were pretty similar, MEC is the wins the most and USMC/UK lose the most.

Patience, dude. when they implement scopes for USMC it will be a little more balanced - but coding and modelling weapons is a time consuming process and we'll have to wait to at least 0.7 for that.
http://users.on.net/hindes/bigdy/squadleader.gifhttp://users.on.net/hindes/bigdy/helicopter.gifhttp://users.on.net/hindes/bigdy/valour.gif

0.6 will be out in ~ two weeks or less.

It's not that the US are underpowered, it's the maps that are unbalanced.

Think about it.

Al basrah = Insurgents

Al falujah = MEC

Gulf of Oman WAC = MEC

Muttrah City = MEC

Operation Pheonix = MEC

The only two maps that are really balanced for the US are Jabal and Ejod. Although Jabal is usually stacked in favour of the MEC because of the incompetance of new players.

I'm the dominatrix!

Lucid took the words straight out of my mouth.

The US are a good team, scopes don't make the US suck that bad because the draw distance and hence the engagement distance is fairly low (at least at the moment), and I like the M16 as I don't find the 3 rnd burst to be underpowered compared to auto. All in all I actually like the US team the best as far as equipment goes.

The problems stem from the fact that the US always seem to have a horrific disadvantage when it comes to map layout and tickets. That is why they loose so badly and people don't like them.

Ive always though a simple fix for suiciding noobtubers is an arming distance. Realworld GL and AT wont detonate before they have gone a fixed distance usually around 25-100 m depending on the round.

Despite the love for the much anticipated 0.6, I know that for myself, and I'm guessing for a far number of community members, there's going to be a radical mindshift when playing - and I'm talking about regulars here, not just the newbies.

We've played 0.5 for what..7-8? months now at least (I have no idea when 0.5 was released come to think of it) and I think all apart from the regular beta players, even though we deny it, adopt 0.5 ways now and again (ie. jump over a wall, run across the road, see an enemy, prone, spam while waiting for your squad to catch up) and from what eggmans saying, this will make your life painful in 0.6.

So when we say the first few weeks of 0.6 is going to chaotic - heh - my guess is fellas we're going to contribute to that too. It's natural, and there will be teething problems and it's going to be frustrating but patience is a virtue and I think 0.6 will truely kick arse.

I've always thought a good solution for suicide kills was to add extra time to your respawn timer for killing yourself. The only time suicides seem to happen is -

1/Noob tubes and AT close range kills.

2/Suicide car bombers

3/Dropping your own grenade at your feet.

The first is just annoying.

The second is only really for Insurgents who get a faster spawn time anyway and thus the penalty wouldn't affect them

The third never tires of getting funny but should be punishable all the same.

Here is a list of particularly awesome things:

dogs

sniping

very spicy chilli

cat claws on people (but still cool on cats)

2/Suicide car bombers

Nooooo that shouldn't be included JIHADING is the most rewarding thing any self respecting insurgent can do it should be rewarded no add to your spawn.

There has been so many changes to every version of BF2 and I'll have no real issue with it. I like the game and I'll adapt quickly.

I'm actually happy that it will change. If any of you have been in my squad you'll probably notice that I'm way out in front because people camp too long. I really ought to kick people for it as the reason I go in so fast is to get on the flag before an organized defence is up.
