Posted June 22, 201014 yr Probably the most video media that has been released in a long time, 3 minutes of footage taken from the helmet cams of soldiers in the SOTG. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jkc8N_wyrl0]YouTube- Australian Special Forces Combat Footage AFGHANISTAN - SOTG - HELMET CAM[/ame] I find it interesting that they're being given head cameras, in that I'm interested in finding out the purpose. http://users.on.net/hindes/bigdy/valour.gifhttp://img205.imageshack.us/img205/5224/operationcrownribbon02py7.jpg yeaaa booooy.
June 22, 201014 yr The helmet cams are being used for AARs. To go over tactics and procedures used and to see what could be done better, etc. They are also used to put together cool as hell combat videos to show to potential SF recruits. CaptainCleanoff on the servers.
June 22, 201014 yr also (not sure about the aussies) but the brits get them sent over to them when on deployment by their fams, so they can film what they go through. also this was posted in another thread here somewhere lol. http://i.imgur.com/TLiDl.png
June 22, 201014 yr I still can't get over how many of them don't wear helmets on operations. Wouldn't catch me without one. http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa188/VisOne_Photo/Signatures%20and%20Banners/VisP.png
June 23, 201014 yr They patrol mega-long distances I guess, maybe a helmet is too much. Or maybe they just like looking badass http://i380.photobucket.com/albums/oo241/SprinterOz/Fondue1.jpg http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/opagamaserv.jpg
June 23, 201014 yr Hmm bullet in the head or a heavy helmet what would be your choice http://i750.photobucket.com/albums/xx143/CaptnCrunch240/crunchCTB-AGBsig.png
June 23, 201014 yr Author Hell I'll take the heavy helmet anyday. I spose one can always make the justification that a heavy helmet on a long patrol won't stop a direct shot, but on the other hand, how silly would it be if you got killed by a ricochet or shrapnel that could've been stopped if you had your helmet on? http://users.on.net/hindes/bigdy/valour.gifhttp://img205.imageshack.us/img205/5224/operationcrownribbon02py7.jpg yeaaa booooy.
June 23, 201014 yr Hmm bullet in the head or a heavy helmet what would be your choice Actually could someone clarify whether they can withstand a bullet? I thought they were more for protecting against shrapnel, blunt force trauma etc.
June 23, 201014 yr A million different things will effect whether or not a bullet will penetrate armour/helmets. Distance, trajectory, physics, amount of grain the in the shell etc..... It might, or it might not. They have in the past and sometimes they don't. They are SF, they know what they are doing, if they don't want to wear a big heavy helmet then they would have a bloody good reason behind it. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
June 23, 201014 yr what ive heard around town is that mobility, comfort, and agility are more important than protection. Special Forces depend on surprise and speed, if they get into a big firefight, they've already failed ideally they want to be gone before the enemy knows they're around. helmets you might see are those some what soft type you see in the movie black hawk down, which are mainly used to protect from knocks to the head from obstacles as they make quick swift moves through tight quarters to evade further confrontations like pipes and what not. comes down to the scalpel and the hammer SF is in and out ideally and Reg platoons are there to take full confrontations so they are armored to the teeth. June 23, 201014 yr well considering the guys in that video went there FOR a fight kinda takes away this point here big if they get into a big firefight, they've already failed this is their life, this is what they train for, they know damn well what they are doing so we shouldnt really question any of it lol. alot of the stuff going on in afghanistan atm (ie operations) is finding, making contactand then fixing the taliban, then droping a hgood amount of blowy-upy-thingies on them till they dont shoot back any more (just to be clear thats only from what i have read/seen/heard, beleive me at your own risk lol.) http://i.imgur.com/TLiDl.png
June 23, 201014 yr For the love of God, yes, helmets can stop bullets. They can get zippered by like 4 or 5 AK-47 7.62 rounds and leave the wearer with just a bad headache. http://i380.photobucket.com/albums/oo241/SprinterOz/Fondue1.jpg http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/opagamaserv.jpg
