The upcoming first person shooter, Alien vs Predator has been refused classification in Australia.

 

Additionally Sega have stated in the past that they will not be releasing any censored versions of the game as they feel it would compromise the feel for the game IIRC.

 

Just another game we are going to have to buy from other shores. Is it just me or it the ratings board refusing pretty much everything these days?

Probably something lame like being able to play as the predator and smash your wristblades through the skulls of poor marines.

 

Though the thing that gets me is in AVP and AVP 2 you could stab, slice and eat pretty much everything with wanton abandon. You could rip aliens heads off and pull the spines out of humans a trophies as the predator and it even had a scene where you actually eat your way out of a guy's chest as an alien lava.

 

It's like the ratings board hasn't cared about any of these things up until this year and suddenly they have gone crazy. I'm thinking either there was a major change in leadership of the rating board personnel or Atkinson is bribing them to ban everything but hello kitty island adventures.

Update, the reason it was refused classification:

The game contains first-person perspective, close-up depictions of human characters being subjected to various types of violence, including explicit decapitation and dismemberment, as well as locational damage such as stabbing through the chest, throat, mouth or eyes. Characters can be stabbed with a Predator's wrist blade or an Alien's tail in depictions reminiscent of impalement.

 

The Predator collects "trophies" by explicitly ripping off human heads, their spinal columns dangling from severed necks. Heads can be twisted completely around in order to break a character's neck. Eyes can be stabbed through or gouged, leaving empty, bloodied eye sockets. It is noted that a player is able to combine manoeuvres together in quick succession, which further increases impact; for example, a Predator can stab a character through both eyes with its wrist blade, and then rip off their head, with spinal column still attached. Extensive post mortem damage, including decapitation and dismemberment, is also possible.

 

Depictions of violence such as the above are accompanied by copious amounts of blood and gore, include ample wound detail and visible skeleton.

As I said before all of this was present in the earlier versions of AVP and no one had a problem with it then so why now? Maybe because of higher definition graphics? So you can rip off a marines face, but not at a resolution higher than 800x600 it seems.
