Posted October 18, 200915 yr Hey all, Just wondering if anyone knows a good site on woodwork, specifically designing and building a good computer desk. I want to make it as a senior project for Technology Studies, I think we get to design and make our own special thing, in the past others have done Bars, wardrobes, cupboards etc. I just wanted to make something really useful that I could use later on when I go to Uni or whatever. October 18, 200915 yr really good site.. http://www.woodworkforums.com/ check out the 'big stuff' thread (http://www.woodworkforums.com/f187/) for inspiration. Whilst you won't get plans from this site - you'll get lots of advice (timber, joints, design concepts etc.) I've got a whole bunch of links on my laptop... I'll post em up tomorrow when I log in Edited October 18, 200915 yr by Sapper28 http://i783.photobucket.com/albums/yy116/IINoddyII/aux1_zpsab5224fd.png
October 18, 200915 yr I made a desk last year in Year 10.. Its a bit small but I'm proud.. Didn't get time to stain it though http://i.imgur.com/zoL1k.png
October 18, 200915 yr Same with me mate I made a coffee table it was a nice piece of work it held my previous fish tank full for about 4 years and is still going strong now but its living in the garage with boxes on it right now. Don't rush it make it right and do yourself proud and put a few hours extra into it in your own time. Your teacher will appreciate it and you will get good marks. http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa188/VisOne_Photo/Signatures%20and%20Banners/VisP.png
October 18, 200915 yr Author I downloaded SketchUp 7. It looks like a handy little tool to have - just gotta learn how to use it. Thanks for that link Noddy, it's an awesome site, lots of great ideas there. http://i.imgur.com/DtNdckc.png [WC]Xavo|xXx:

October 18, 200915 yr once you've designed it - put it up on the woodwork forums to get feedback / comments... let 'em know that you're just starting out and looking for some advice and they'll jump in with tips and tricks I'm sure http://i783.photobucket.com/albums/yy116/IINoddyII/aux1_zpsab5224fd.png
October 18, 200915 yr Author Cool, I sure hope the forum works at school. If anyone is interested as to what we're making atm in Woodwork. This is the design I made this morning on the computer. There are a few other drafts but I'll use this as a template when I figure how to print it. It's supposed to be a clock (hence the red acrylic on X) but I didn't put hands or numbers in here, I'll worry about that when the teacher tells me to. http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd84/ProffessorX/XRclockFront.jpg http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd84/ProffessorX/XRclockISOLeft.jpg http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd84/ProffessorX/XRclockISORight.jpg There you go, its roughly going to be 50cm long and 20cm high and 5cm deep. I have got the wood cut into those dimensions at school, just planing and sanding it atm. I have to draw this template onto it and cut that out still, so a while to go.
