You mate at school is way full of crap. One of two things, either he is a moron or he is jealous and does not want you to have one.

They are awesome buy one now.

My i7 920 eats everything I can throw at it so far.

Or as one of many thousands of Canadians have said, my guns are at the bottom of that lake. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. - On Gun Confiscation

They are the most powerful CPU around, esp. sweet when paired with triple channel DDR3 RAM.

However you still need a powerful graphics card and good amount of RAM, so just a Core i7 system alone (ie without a good gfx card) won't necessarily be good for high end gaming.

technically, he may be right. you don't need one.

perhaps he meant the value for money wasn't great for gaming. as in, you could buy a cheaper cpu and still be able to game just fine.

You've already ruined these forums for me, I have no desire to read your rhetoric or the pathetic arguments you get yourself in to, or the personal vendetta you have against me, so please, do not talk to me. Ever. About anything.

Love you long time gunner <3

I like to wait till im nearly done, then pull out and yell "COVERING FIRE!!!"

Ahhh. Im so glad I have a GF and she doesnt read these forums...

The only reason you'd get a Killer NIC is if your CPU was getting slogged with networking traffic and you wanted to offload it.

Basically what the Killer NIC does is take control of all of the network calls so your CPU doesn't. The "speed" that they save you is that the network traffic is processed before anything else even reaches the CPU, which isn't really that much of a saving.

If you have a good CPU and aren't prioritising traffic for certain network resource intensive applications, I wouldn't bother.

also any decent 3rd party nic (3com, Intel etc) normally do the processing on nic as well . . .

There comes a time in every musician's life when they must decide what instrument they should master. Few. If any are ever worthy enough to master. The cowbell.
im looking at getting one of the new i5's

I wouldn't. P55 doesn't support 16x PCIe. Get i7 + X58 + 6 GB of ram, and you're set.

i7 950 ftw.

btw your mate, whats his name so i can send the death squad to his residence?

such words spoken shall result in death!
