Posted August 16, 200915 yr Here's the run down. Last night my monitor was running fine as usual, hasn't skipped a beat in over the year that I've owned it. Until It suddenly just went haywire halfway through watching a dvd on my pc. I've never seen something like this before so I really dunno what to make of it, here's a photo taken from my phone (Picture of Windows 7 login screen): http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/7254/16082009138.jpg The change was instantaneous, it just clicked straight from normal to hippy mode. My Monitor is a ASUS MW221C - 22" widescreen LCD. So the question: Can this be fixed? By me? Is the prob generally considered a warranty issue (I know LCD's are only covered for certain things). Cheers. Edited August 16, 200915 yr by Sushiroru [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] http://i793.photobucket.com/albums/yy213/Frenzal/ANZ.png

August 16, 200915 yr Author I've Tried different connections/cables, both VGA and DVI inputs and a different PC. All with the same results. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] http://i793.photobucket.com/albums/yy213/Frenzal/ANZ.png
August 16, 200915 yr My brother just had a look at this and thinks it might be magnetic interference. It could be caused by a number of things from your phone to any other electronic device. Try removing everything that is no essential to running the PC and see if that fixes it. http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa188/VisOne_Photo/Signatures%20and%20Banners/VisP.png

I don't think LCDs are affected by magnets, CRTs on the other hand... http://www.pcreview.co.uk/articles/Consumer-Advice/LCD_vs_CRT/ http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=805414&st=0&p=591371810entry591371810 (There's more but I can't be bothered because I made the intelligent decision not to sleep last night) http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee94/psyrus_uraya/awards-1.png QFT: Your computer is smart man. August 16, 200915 yr May not be magnetic but there is still certainly the possibility of interference caused by other electronics near by. Anyway its not going to hurt for him to check if anything near by may be causing it. http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa188/VisOne_Photo/Signatures%20and%20Banners/VisP.png
August 16, 200915 yr what does it look like without being plugged into a computer. ? should be blank with some sort of no signal text. if its normal then its not your monitor but your grx caRD IF ITs still bung then it would be covered under a warranty if your still in the warranty period .
August 16, 200915 yr Are you sure it's the monitor and not a graphics card issue? Plug another computer or input device into you monitor to see if it does the same thing. Also could be a heat related problem, caused by dust and poor ventilation.
August 16, 200915 yr Author I've Tried different connections/cables, both VGA and DVI inputs and a different PC. All with the same results. It's definitely the Monitor, I've tried it on another PC and a PS3. And when my pc is turned off and there's no signal, the displaying text saying 'no signal' is distorted. Internal chip fried I figure then, that'd explain the instantaneous change from normal to not normal. Warranty time brother ... if the warranty didn't run out *yesterday* like is so often the case :disgust: http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee94/psyrus_uraya/awards-1.png QFT: Your computer is smart man. August 16, 200915 yr Yeah, I had 2 identical monitors, bought at exactly the same time. Roughly 2 years after manufacture, about a year and a half after purchase, both died at the same time. They don't make 'em like they used to.

August 16, 200915 yr i would say 'you get what you paid for' but i have a dell 2407 8-bit panel, which i've had for 2.5 years. the on/off switch went about a year in and then a small black band appeared on the top left corner, barely noticeable but it would perfectly cover the renderer.drawfps fps rate. luckily for me, the expensive dell monitors have a 3 year warranty. so i had 1 monitor for 2.5 years and have another brand new, new revision monitor, still a 2407, 1 business day later. this is a 1000 dollar monitor, or was, back in the day. http://imgur.com/e5y6e.gif You've already ruined these forums for me, I have no desire to read your rhetoric or the pathetic arguments you get yourself in to, or the personal vendetta you have against me, so please, do not talk to me. Ever. About anything.

I have the same monitor and had the same problem with the power button. However it took a month for me to get my replacement. NZ is further away but its not like we are off the edge of the world or anything!
August 18, 200915 yr Author I rang ASUS today. They were awesome. Their sending someone round to actually pick it up, and take it away to be fixed. You're right SOP you get what you pay for. In this case I have no regrets, ASUS are a good brand, the monitor is top notch performance and quality not to mention the 3 year warranty and the customer service. I really just got unlucky with this one I suppose that's the case with all LCD's these days...
