Mulitplayer can still be abit frustrating. They're releasing a massive patch (this weekend iirc) to help it out.

Here is a list of particularly awesome things:

dogs

sniping

very spicy chilli

cat claws on people (but still cool on cats)

Cool. Give us a yell on Steam when you get it.

GIVE me more races dammit I'm sick to death of Space Marines always being the first team in. :|

But they are clearly the most awesome team :p

Then again you can't go past the orks for pure choppy power.

*obligatory comment on how DoW 2 was a let down after DoW* 2 steps forwards and 3 steps back IMHO. Such a waste, makes me a sad panda.

The thing that has always made my panties bunch up about the DOW series is the fact say a lascannon/bright lance can't blow the head off a space marine. Now by all accounts that certainly should be the case. Now before you get your panties in a bunch as well I know the lascannon/bright lance isn't meant to be used on infantry its anti armour.

Generally the game comes off as a little rock, scissor & paper. Ultimately who ever has the most firepower to hit points wins.

Yeah they should make the AT weapons do massive damage to inf but fire very very slowly.

Like CoH.

Wait a second, all they need to do is put all the DoW units into CoH and it would be a perfect game. But no, they have to go and wreck it by trying to fix something that is not broken. And hence CoH is still the best RTS ever made and DoW is a dumbed down disappointment.

Man I promised myself I wouldn't get pulled into ranting. Oh well.

how large is the download

It's pretty big. Mine takes up about 5 or 6 gig of my HDD. So probably that plus a bit more being STEAM unless you can get it through unmetered d/l's.

That's not how it works in CoH anymore because AT guns sniping your infantry sucked balls.

And they probably will add new races but it's a balancing nightmare with just 4 at the moment so I doubt it'll be any time soon.

Satisfying the SM fan boys is pretty hard as it is now without throwing more things for them to whine about.

On another Note COH Gold (nilla & Oposing front) is selling for $15 US on Steam and the new COH expansion for $15 standalone

Compared to DoW it's two steps forwards and 3 steps back IMHO.

I'm sure there is a demo around for it though if you are interested in trying it out.

Only good thing bout DoW2 is that it has Tyranids . . .
There comes a time in every musician's life when they must decide what instrument they should master. Few. If any are ever worthy enough to master. The cowbell.
Hardly saves it though. They don't play anything like the do on the table top and they certainly don't fit into there fluff story wise. Well at least not in MP games. In fact the entire DOW series has failed miserably when it comes to the hoard armies, like the Nids, Orks and Imperial Guard.

Ideally the blokes that make the Total War series could make either a Warhammer or Warhammer 40k type game which would allow you to have the hoard armies as well as their corresponding 'titans' or epic units to help turn the tide of battle ala Final Liberation

Apart from the average fun of DoW - Warhammer has failed to make the transition from table-top to PC in almost every game (Warhammer Online was ok, I don't mind it, but in terms of MMO's and subscription numbers its a fail unless it has a second wind at some stage)

i actually found all my old miniatures the other day, from way back when I played, and had a highly secretive game with one of my friends who also used to play - the Table Top game is still awesome

I have a large 3000+ point ork TT army and it could be represented well in DoW but never in DoW II.

The reason that the hoard armies don't work very well in DoW is because there is no proper cover system so you get cut down at range and because ranged units can fire and move too effectively meaning that is is very hard to get into CQC. IG aren't a hoard army, their inf are weakish but their vehicles are some of the best.

The problem with DoW II is that they went the complete opposite way to what they should have. Warhammer is not about tactical squad action it is about massive battles that are sometimes so large that they boggle the mind. That is exactly where they went wrong with the sequel IMHO.

The simple solution: Take the CoH engine replace the Germans, etc with space marines, etc. Raise the pop cap make the maps a little bigger and bang, you have a perfect DoW game.

Total war would be great for a fantasy warhammer game but it really isn't designed for 40,000 IMO.

i have mine in my shed waiting for me to paint them all up proper. very large army it is, if they didn't have the squad limits in DoW it would transition across quite well i reckon.

agree with the first part, but disagree with the second. 40k if you take it up to the 'planet scale' type warfare that you read about in the novels or short stories about the seige at Armageddon then it would be perfect. Most SM mission/campaigns are done by at least one company, IG go to regimental size formations etc etc so it could scale quite well i reckon.

Yeah but they would have to put a much better cover system in the game or I don't think it would translate over very well. Cover is a very key factor in TT 40,000. In TT fantasy it doesn't really matter as most of your units are melee only. I wouldn't be able to stand it if there was only the very basic cover system from empire total war and people just spent 95% of the time standing in the open carelessly firing at each other like it was a game of laser tag.

true that, if they could somehow sort out the cover it would be perfect (o:
