Posted July 26, 200915 yr After watching this [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R8ZVZRsy8N8]video[/ame] on YouTube, I got to thinking why none of my female friends, who are sci-fi nerds and, well, strange in general, are not gamers. So, I asked my Girlfriend about why she's not at all interested in games. She went on a bit of a tirade about how all of my games revolve around killing etc (which is kinda true) and that she's just not that interested in defending Basrah from insurgents, or murdering helpless civilians in SWAT 4. So it got me thinking - what kind of game should I buy for my girl to make her more interested in gaming? She had a brief (like 30 mins brief) play around with WoW about 3 years ago, and seemed to enjoy the questing aspect of it. But unfortunately for her, WoW is forbidden in this house. So I'm talkin single player, I guess RPG-ish type game, possibly fantasy. Any suggestions? It would really make my life easier if she shared my passion for games. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
July 26, 200915 yr I asked my girlfriend, who's an avid gamer, and she gave me "that" look. After having a quick discussion with her (I'm getting really good at dodging those "I can't believe you just generalised my gender" arguments ... possibly because I'm sick and I just start coughing so she feels bad yelling at me) we came up with the following: Regardless of her gender, it really depends on what she's interested in. For example, my girlfriend enjoys a couple of killing games (FEAR, Left4Dead), but prefers the RTS and strategy games like Dawn of Discovery, Age of Empires, etcetera. Some safe bets could be: The Sims 3 (if she likes controlling other peoples lives!), SimCity (If she likes building things), Fable (Good fantasy RPG, but it does involve killing), Final Fantasy (Again, a good fantasy RPG, but it does involve killing). Then you've got your Zoo Tycoon-type games.
July 26, 200915 yr Well to tell you the truth WoW is a favourite of the girls because it's one of the few games they get to play as....a girl.... Unfortunately not many games cater for women so I don't have a good answer for you at the moment. The Wii is a great console to muck around with though, the party games are fantastic - no girl can resist Super Smash Bros! Edit: Get her Sims 3! Aestabjoo hit the nail on the hair there, try getting it for her, heck even I loved playing the other Sims games. I know a few of my friends play it (who are girls, strangely enough.) July 26, 200915 yr Wii. Girls are ok with Wii. Maybe because it's not the stereotypical sit on your ass style of gaming. And it's "cute". http://img22.imageshack.us/img22/2561/bigdsig.jpg
July 26, 200915 yr I got my missus into playing LocoRoco see digs it and I have since got her Patapon. http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa188/VisOne_Photo/Signatures%20and%20Banners/VisP.png
July 26, 200915 yr That is a good question base. Give her Entropia Universe and watch her spend all your realworld cash in a virtual world ! If that's not for you than maybe The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. I haven't played it but it is an RPG game. Ahh just browsing steam, a game that I played and your She-Base might like is The Longest Journey and there is also a #2 not sure of its name. Its very much a single player game that you follow a story of.... Well anyway I will just do this: The Longest Journey is an amazing graphical adventure, where the player controls the protagonist, April Ryan, on her journey between parallel universes. Embark on an exciting and original journey of discovery, where you will explore, solve puzzles, meet new people, face terrifying monsters, learn, grow, and live the adventure of a lifetime! I would say good for someone new to the gaming world. http://www.clan-tea.com/sigs/flames/Poncho-Temp.png Orders starting with SOMEBODY usually wind up being completed by NOBODY.

July 26, 200915 yr My missus likes the sims also. I'm noticing a trend. Mine also likes GTA4 a bit until it got too hard for her. She forgets that I've been playing games for over 20 years so I've had a lot of practice getting used to new controls. However, she doesn't think it's so funny when I pick up hookers and stab them to death to get my money back..... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/SirChuc/smokejumper3.jpg http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/valorousunit.bmphttp://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/OperationCrownRibbon02.jpg Or as one of many thousands of Canadians have said, my guns are at the bottom of that lake. July 26, 200915 yr Author See I was trying to steer clear of both the Sims and the Wii. Mostly for the reason that I know they would appeal to her. I know that sounds a bit stupid, but let me explain: IMO, and please, let me repeat that this is just my opinion, the Wii was a console designed almost exclusively for non 'core' gamers. Little kids, older people etc. This was a deliberate attempt by Nintendo (a damn smart one too if you ask me) to tap an entirely new market for their gaming systems. The reason I would be reticent to put my GF onto these is that i don't feel that they are 'real' games. Any clown can play Wii Fit, but that doesn't make them a 'gamer'. I'd rather start her on a real game, and see how we go from there. if it fails, wellll maybe I'll consider Sims 3 Oh BTW I just bought Oblivion off Steam, D/L'ing it now. We'll soon find out... July 26, 200915 yr if you want "real games" girls might enjoy.. some form of RPG fable's,fallout3,oblivion n what not.. something with a storyline choices lots of choices, a character that they can build apon.. fun lil side quests and randomness [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
July 26, 200915 yr My girlfriend isn't a fan of FPS (except doom for some reason) but she likes tekken so I just got StreetFighter 4 and she loves it. It's a good choice because we can play it together, which really helps keep her interest. She also enjoys adventure games like Sam and Max and the new Wallace and Grommit series (even though they're bloody hard!). Plus i run the pc through to our tv and sitting on the couch gaming lasts longer than sitting at a desk! Luckily she accepts I enjoy gaming, but still gives me (and you guys) crap when im on teamspeak  Hope that helps.
July 26, 200915 yr Diablo. Dunno why but chicks dig Diablo. Here is a list of particularly awesome things: dogs sniping very spicy chilli cat claws on people (but still cool on cats)
July 26, 200915 yr I think there are three main reasons why we dont see hordes of ladies on our forums, or any non-sim gaming forum for that matter. 1) the ratio of 'gamers' (PC) vs 'casual gamers' (Wii) still holds - only perhaps the pool of total gamers is smaller. 2) for non-casual games - (generalisations here) fellas like to build, conquer and compete. Ladies like to interact and some to compete. Games with social sides will be more preferable to FPS, RPGs and RTSs, which have token if any real AI humanlike 'interaction'. eg Sims, settlers (? although still building), PvE MMOs, puzzle games, would be better. No killing or building involved. 3) Most games are male dominated. I've been playing Gothic 3 and the ratio of chicks:blokes in the world is ~1:20. How about an adventure game where a woman is the main char? like Beyond Good & Evil: http://beyondgoodevil.com/uk/home.php Edited July 26, 200915 yr by McCloud Where's the cheese? http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/2315/ubd4327.png
July 26, 200915 yr My GF loves Little big Planet. But she only likes playing around with the customs and character editor because she cant control the sackboy/girl well. She seems to enjoy FPS like Halo and doom but i haven't managed to get her into realistic based FPS like PR. She also really enjoys the Tomb raider games because there adventure based and i because its a female charecter Edited July 26, 200915 yr by Jacka http://i750.photobucket.com/albums/xx143/CaptnCrunch240/crunchCTB-AGBsig.png
July 26, 200915 yr Regardless of her gender, it really depends on what she's interested in.. Yeah, It really does depend on the interests of the individual. The Mrs Reads A LOT, like god damn it !!! likes, for PC, the Elder Scrolls series (morrowind, Oblivion). Definitely the Wii, Raving Rabbids, Wii Sports in particular. :(When swimming in sh!t, best keep your chin up! http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii300/3D_Gimp/bDSig2014_zpsbfe88bfb.png
July 26, 200915 yr played Gekkeiju Online some many many years ago. (when it was good) there was a pretty decent girl to guy ratio. It was even or even more into favor of the girls. Fair bit of role-playing and what not happened in that game. But because it was more of a smaller game you had a well known community. everyone knew everyone basically. July 26, 200915 yr My missus loves ArmA2! She likes anything to do with sniping, so I edit little missions. I set her up down one end of the air strip and some targets up the other end, it's pretty simple but if that's what it takes......tho I'm a bit worried that I may have to buy another high end rig for her to frag on.

I'm finally playing through COD4, I'm going to get my girlfriend to have a go at the Spectre mission! Another rig would be good though, I think a 2-pc LAN setup would be a lot of fun with the missus. Anyone tried this?
July 26, 200915 yr its called mount and blade, and has a rather large female community, one of the best FPS RPG games out there. i still play this years later. its fantastic.
July 26, 200915 yr I thought this thread was going to be about chicks and psychological warfare. The holder of XX chromosomes with whom I cohabit is into RPGs like the C&C series and also the mindless violence of the various incarnations of UT. PR, Arma etc. seem to be too involved and there's also little interest in playing anything online where she will get her arse kicked.
