Posted July 15, 200915 yr Infinity Ward and Activision are setting a new standard for ridiculous collector's editions with the Prestige Edition of Modern Warfare 2: a giant set that includes a pair of fully-functional night vision goggles. Because that is totally necessary. If you thought the Fallout 3 Survival Kit and Halo 3 Legendary Edition were the cream of the crop when it came to ridiculous premium packages for blockbuster videogames, you haven't seen (Call of Duty) Modern Warfare 2's Prestige Edition yet. This package, recently revealed (and unboxed) by Infinity Ward community man Robert Bowling, is about as excessive as videogame consumerism comes. It contains the "Hardened Edition" of the game, packaged in a steel case and with an art book, and, believe it or not, what Bowling calls "fully functional" night-vision goggles, with alternating modes and a Soap MacTavish model head to stick them on for display. Prestige and Hardened editions come with download codes for Call of Duty: Classic on PSN and XBLA (it's the first CoD). "This is where the big bucks are," Bowling declares. I don't doubt it. Bowling didn't mention how much this is all going to cost, but it can't be cheap for Activision and Infinity Ward (or, as Bowling calls his company, "I-Dub") to mass produce functional night-vision goggles, though I can't say I'm an authority on the subject. Modern Warfare 2 will also come in a standalone Hardened Edition variety (with steel case, art book and download code), as well as the regular old, plain Jane, comes-in-a-plastic-case variety. For the people who just want to play the game and not sneak around campgrounds at night hunting raccoons. Source http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/07/mw2-night-vision-prestige-rm-eng.jpg I really wonder how much this will cost in AUD and how well the NVG works, If they are decent enough its pobably more cost effective for me (who plays milsims and combat sports) to get this instead of real NVG's We will see Edited July 15, 200915 yr by soulnsurf
July 15, 200915 yr Man good NVG's cost well over a few thousand dollars - These will probably be Gen 2 type NVG's, which need a lot of ambient light to function at night properly (starlight/moonlight etc.) Most NVG's also have an IR light attached to them for room use etc. by the way. You can't see Infra-Red light but the NVG uses it to function. Didn't read the prestige edition cost: $149 for NVG's AND a game? No way. As Chalice said these can't be the real deal. July 15, 200915 yr LOL...take a look at the "NVG's" closely bud. 1. NVG's cost hundreds if not thousands 2. NVG's do not emit a light 3. NVG's do not have LED lights surrounding the lense like these do...LOL These "NVG's" are nothing more than a torch superglued to a pair of goggles. You whack your face in the mask and OMG you can see in the dark...because theres a torch lighting the area..lol lol lol These would be as useless to you in milsims as gaffa taping a torch to your forehead. bring back the APVS4A i say...was like doing a visual jig saw puzzle in the dark...I think thats a person over there, but it could be a mountain too....hmmm to fire/challenge or not too? July 15, 200915 yr Ohh that is just ............ wrong? .... Silly? I can't decide either way I know I would not buy them simply because I have being burnt by these sort of things before. http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa188/VisOne_Photo/Signatures%20and%20Banners/VisP.png

July 15, 200915 yr The funny thing is people will actually buy these things expecting to get a piece of military hardware [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
July 15, 200915 yr I know..I seen them and was in tears. Look out for Modern Warfare 3 where they will be giving away F88 Austeyrs and I hear in MOW6 they plan on giving away F-35's...keep your eye out for that one ppl http://i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt221/Chalice00/chalicenewsig-1.png
July 15, 200915 yr could be a cheap as cctv lens. I have a couple at home that have IR LEDs around the lens which pump out a bit of light but are only good for viewing maybe 5m tops. There comes a time in every musician's life when they must decide what instrument they should master. Few. If any are ever worthy enough to master. The cowbell.
July 15, 200915 yr Stronger LED lights maybe..lol These things are not NVG's and cannot be modified to be NVG's..soz bud. Basically the design of these "NVG's" is you look thru a lens...surrounding that lens are lights which subtely light the around around the lens and a couple of meters..at most..in front of it...they emit light, so if ya use em for milsims you'll stand out a mile away at night. Real NVG's are a work of scientific brilliance involving light "amplification" not light "creation"...*sniggers*..using LED lights...ahhh ROFL ROFL ROFL Ebay has some NVG's...not the best but usable...monocular NVG's are great But the prices of good un's are expensive..check it out http://cgi.ebay.com/New-ATN-NVG7-2B-Night-Vision-Goggles-w-Headgear-Gen-2_W0QQitemZ270423250831QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item3ef67b578f&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A12%7C66%3A2%7C39%3A1%7C72%3A1205%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50 and these are gen 2 Military grade gen 3 http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-G-I-ISSUE-PVS-7D-NIGHT-VISION-GOGGLES-WITH-CASE_W0QQitemZ260444547171QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item3ca3b46863&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A16%7C66%3A2%7C39%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50 when on Ebay dont get sucked in by the cheap ones with the pretty NV picture...all military or ex military guys like myself will tell ya that the picture thru NVG's is never that bloody good Edited July 15, 200915 yr by kevinmiller http://i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt221/Chalice00/chalicenewsig-1.png
July 15, 200915 yr Yes, Gen 2 NVG's are the cheapest on the market. Wait til you see Gen 3 and Gen 4 NVG's, I've seen them around 10,000 to 30,000 for a single one. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
July 15, 200915 yr Agree...i've added a link above for a set of gen 3's for $5k US dollars and thats a bargain for em as they're PVS. I cant stop laughing at these NVG's...i'm gonna make my own and send them in to em...using green cellafane, some swimming goggles and a mini mag light..LOL http://i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt221/Chalice00/chalicenewsig-1.png
July 15, 200915 yr All you have to do is think of the main target audience of the more recent CoD games (no offence to the guys who play it, this is a generalisation) - spammy, jumping kids who think CoD Hardcore mode is the pinnacle of realism to figure out that the NVG's will be complete crap. July 15, 200915 yr Its a torch ppl...it has LED lights on the lens..ROFL negative. they will be IR leds not visbale to the naked eye, not a torch. The camera in the goggles will be able to pick up ir light. Yes, they will have limited range, as they won't have any light amplification technology as in a proper set of NVG, but they will still give you night vision. (I am actually mtrying to make a set myself) Most "real" NVG wouldn't provide much more distance or detail, unless it was a moonlit night or you had an IR illuminator attached to your goggles or gun. The Eyeclops toy nightvision goggles would be similar to these, but these look better, as it looks like the camera will be able to flip up. July 23, 200915 yr still though, despite the lack of quality, they still have a cool novelty appeal when on your desk mounted on the dudes head that it comes with, as long as you sdont have any army like minded ppl around you, they will look the part.. i'd pay 150 for the game with the hard cover and the steel casing. so i am easy. July 24, 200915 yr Lol.... Wait, maybe it's because we average more intelligence than the typical console player and realise that their not actually NVG's! Edited July 24, 200915 yr by YAK [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
