I listened to that for a bit yesterday. The highlight was when they played just the vocals out of God Only Knows by the Beach Boys - that was amazing....

They do it every 10 years. Last time they did it I was back in school and it had the same number one.

 

Jeff Buckley was one of the darlings of the muso world and will always be on somebody's greatest ever list. The ones that made the list are fantastic songs though.

Muse FTW...

I’ve never had a particular genre of music. As long as it was very well crafted I like it. In this list there is probably less than 10 songs that I don’t like (a curtain symptom of an STD for one) so I reckon it’s a great list. Everyone is different and probably won’t like it and to that I just give a big ‘meh’. I can admit that I’m in the middle, a fence sitter when it comes to my music. Although I still put Modest Mouse as my favourite... under Billy Joels - Piano Man

heh, ya did you hear about Thriller? It went up 40 places after he died and that was a Friday. The voting closed on Monday, imagine what would have happened if he kicked the bucket at the beginning of voting.

Get stuffed is what I said when they announced this bloody song as number one AGAIN! I stand by my comment there are so many better songs more deserving that than song. However I am one man and I can't fight half a million 20 somethings who lives were changed by that song? God knows why I blame MTV!

I'm surprised Hilltop didn't get higher. They basically kicked off aussie hip hop.

 

All in all there could of been a lot worse. I'm surprised Joy division and white stripes got voted so highly though.

thats a pretty decent list. got alot of my favourite songs . and jam knights of cydonia and nosebleed section are both epic songs which are entirely deserving of their places . i think you'll find more than just a few "trend queens", would vote for those songs.

An interesting list, but given the JJJ typical demographic (20-30 yr old white middle class blokes), it is unsurprising.

 

Do the kids these days still actually listen to/rate Nirvana and Pearl Jam? Obviously they must... ?

yeah we listen to tonnes of old music, music doesnt go "out of fashion" or anything like that. it does change over time due to technology, but a good song is a good song no matter how much mastering/refining has been done to it.

You gotta remember its not so much the artist as the Song and some songs like Halleluja a cover song by Jeff Buckley shows how powerful a song can be.

This chart obviously doesnt rate classical music and yes is voted by a majority of 25-35 yr olds so its not a true depiction of the greatest songs in musical history else Deep Purples smoke on the water would be in there

 

At Smells Like Teen Spirit, this song smashed through the blandness that was MTV at the time it wasnt made famous by it thats for sure. Honestly who wasnt rocked my it when it came out ?

+1 for muse not being as exciting as some claim it to be. Its glam rock at its finest too bad its finest isn't my cup of tea. :sweat:

if your not a fan of their latest album you should check out their older stuff, its fairly different (although i still like the new album).

and can people stop ripping into bands i like? post some of the bands you like so i can have a turn bashing your taste in music

You need to be imaginative to enjoy Muse...

Their musics fairly unique which is what makes me love it
