Project Reality is suppose to be like reality. Is it not? Then can anyone care to share with me where the hell did anyone get the idea of a M249 SAW/ACOG (MSA). I have seen many military photographs etc... and not once have I seen a MSA in any of them, the only place that comes to mind is COD4? If someone has actually a photograph/video footage of a "REAL" MSA while used in combat can they please share it with me because frankly, I reckon the developer(s) went a bit over the top with that one...

the only saw's ive seen with optics in field pictures are saw's with eclans not acog.. and to memory.. havent played 0.86 since the test built it was n eclan+ too capped to check for pics .

AFAIK Elcans and ACOGs are quite common on MGs in places like Afghanistan where engagement ranges are quite large.

 

Not that I can post it as a picture but I was watching a doco on US SF in the Ghan about a week ago and they had Elcans and ACOGs on almost all of their M249, M240, and M2HB MGs.

Yes, ACOGs are used on 249's in the US Army.

 

If I recall correctly, the ELCAN "SpecterDr" is replacing the ACOG in the US Army.

There is not much difference between the ACOG and ELCAN Wildcat in magnification, 3.5x (ELCAN) vs. 4.0x (ACOG).

Reality be damned, the gun upsets game balance, insurgency maps I don't really care, but maps with death=ticket loss (US vs china) the gun is capable of ruining squads/team movements.

its darn good at medium-long ranges, and up close its nuts...but in that intermediate range, esp when your moving its not so great cos it takes a while to settle, and the spread un-deployed is maniacal

Yeah just don't get caught by one that is already deployed, if you come across one at range that isn't deployed than they don't have the advantage. Keep and eye out, if you see a saw that is setup for covering turn around or find another way to avoid its fire.

More than any other LMG ?

Every time I've come up against a deployed MG, I've flanked and knifed the dude in the face. Their field of vision is miniscule and they lose all perception of what is immediately around them.

 

Unless they have a squad member watching their back (*GASP!* TEAMWORK! ) then they aren't that much of an issue.

 

Besides, if you take cover and smoke out, then he has no target to shoot at.

What I've noticed is the use of it as a support weapon and to provide covering firing for squad movements .

Its not a weapon that people should go rambo with...but when its used properly its very effective .

Although I wish people would refrain from running past me when I am scoped in and firing....happened twice the other day on Fallujah.

It will be a huge asset in the 10v10 on those smaller maps, as was seen in the little game yesterday on ejod with a few of boys on server 3.

I love that gun so much. When you are being attacked you can find a position from far away and cover your squad who are running up to counter attack. Squad leaders can put down markers and just spraying in that area will scare the enemy away

Interesting tactic note to self

The marines are getting a specially designed ACOG called the "SDO" for every single M249 SAW in their inventory. It has 3.5x magnification and a longer eye relief to accommodate for the recoil of the weapon.

The other lmg's are also fantastic and when zoomed in the have less of a field of view loss.
