Hey guys, made my first Fraps video last night, umm,, does anyone know how to stop the flickering of overlay text ? it flicker even tho its all set to nothing, although i am using Windows Movie Maker :blowup: :scare2:

 

Fraps settings were, 23FPS / Half Size

I can see where your coming from but as it being my first movie ever i wanted to try all the gadets the best i could,

music is always up to personal preference.

Flickering overlay? Did you google it?

 

I'm pretty sure we can narrow it down to Movie Maker. Maybe you should cut to black, say your piece, and take it back to the movie again?

 

And it's a good attempt at a first try. I think making movies takes a lot of skill/imagination/artistic abilities, which I don't have, so credit to you if you keep working on it. If you ever see clips of what I do, I take short clips, no overlay, cut directly to the point because that's all I can manage. I can encode them nicely though

Why is it named "Insurgents Attach Humvee Patrol" I assume you meant "Insurgents Attack Humvee Patrol" ??? Also I don't feel the music but that is me. Other then those points its put together well and to the point so its a good start.

May i ask.. where was your squad during the Korengal scene? shouldn't you have them assisting you? or did you decide to go lone wolf??

Good job for a first try , the music fits in well but just gotta fix the spelling mistakes and that weird text thing and it would be great

As a guide Christos, I generally spend about 30-45 minutes for every minute of footage I'm outputting. (Spending about 2-4 hours on a clip). I'm no artistic master or anything but I'm generally pretty happy with my end results. Some things to think about:

 

- Continuity in the clip:

It seemed to jump around a bit, kind of like a highlights reel but the clips were a bit long to be highlights

- Music sync to scenes:

It was a fine music choice but if you're able to get a couple of 'action shots' to fit with the music, I find it'll blend it in really well.

- Your video editor:

I tried Windows MM and it was horrible, I suggest acquiring something like Sony Vegas, or Ulead Video Studio... they're very powerful

- Transitions:

I spend a considerable amount of time on transitions, when it's appropriate, what type to use, to change music or remain the same...

Wow what a response, i got ppl backing me up and i got people dissin me !! what a nice place to be. kinda like "real world" lol, thank you to ALL of the comments good and bad,

 

- Yes it was Kosh's Firebase at the end ! you were there with me Shady, also, when i was by myself i logged on specifically to make a video and didn't wanna make anyone of my members upset by me just trying to get a hollywood act ! so hence my lone wolfness !

 

- Spelling mistakes, it was much rushed as i wanted to see a video i made on utube that night... (i started making it at 9:30pm finished it 1030 and i had to get up for work at 0400 !!!! HENCE THE RUSH JOB,

 

- the flicker i will fix, i will just make all writing with just a greenish back round instead of overlay.

 

it was 2 clips in total, not a mix but needed a lil more duration after the humvee attack so....

 

- Music was a great choice thank you !!! hee hee !!

 

- I will make another with all your suggestions and comments in mind and see how we go....

 

QUESTION - if i were to have recorded with 25 FPS instead of 22 would it make it less jumpy, just wasnt too sure on finished size so i tried to be conservative where i could !

 

got sony vegas now so will try it out

ive got about 3 hours of chopper vids so far ,, taken up most of my xternal drive willl try make somthing awsome out of it all

Christos, One thing you will find with the BigD community is that we are a diverse bunch that are there to voice an honest opinion.... Doesnt mean that what is said is all warm & fluffy.

 

Dont take offense at comments made, as, if you ask for opinions, only a fool would expect all positives. If the negatives hurt you then get over it & get out. I would expect you have more depth than that & use those comments to improve yourself & your work.

 

I have to hand it to you on the video, I personally dont have the patience to do it justice, so I dont.

I will say that the music didnt do it for me, but, would have been more tollerable at a lower volume with & bit of team voice coms in for good depth of game / teamplay. after all thats what PR is all about.

Sony Vegas Pro, I found full of features & probably out of my league, but is a tool you should aquire & try. Lets face it, MS think movie maker is so crap they give it away with windows...

For a first video it isnt too bad, you got the basics in.

 

Just some things.

Set a common fps record, best to aim @ 30fps if possible

*i never have done it so sorry if im wrong* Record ingame using the ingame client record/demo

Then redo and record the footage you want with a standard and CONSTANT fps level. Mainly for example, you originally may record say at 60fps, but then you do ur final copy at 30 fps for a constant and smooth video. (if thats possible in bf2)

 

The music in the video, however strange and odd, i personally didnt mind it.

The flicker text was kinda bad, If anything, dont have the text flicker the whole screen, just a section, perhaps bottom centre

The actual footage was good, obviously cant have awesome angles when its in first person but you get to see what you are actually shooting etc.

Andy, i have not responded negativily at all previously, it was just a smart arse comment more on the point of how diverse we are here at BD so.... im not too sure where your defense mechanism kicked in and why but... its all good, i have vegas 9.0 now and am starting to find out about how to use it
