Posted June 5, 200915 yr Dual/Multiple Monitors who uses them and how do they effect your gaming? I was talking to my brother about this earlier and he said they are terrible for gaming because the game itself will present on two monitors. I assume you get around this by running games in a single window and keeping it on one monitor? Anyway I don't just want them for going in and out of games but also for other things I use my pc for so any comments are appreciated. :hi: http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa188/VisOne_Photo/Signatures%20and%20Banners/VisP.png
June 5, 200915 yr I have multiple monitors and could never go back to one now. Play PR on the main screen while having all sorts of apps and side programs running on the other, eg MUMBLE, TS, PCstats, BigD forums..on and on.
June 5, 200915 yr I remember someone saying it'd b awsum if ther was a way to get the map on PR to stay on one moniter and normal screen on another...not possible but maby someone smarter than me may have ideas on how to cause id buy another moniter if i could do that..... http://www.users.on.net/~beljas/sigs/devilz.png
June 5, 200915 yr http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/01/curved-monitor-490.jpg Who needs multiple monitors? pfft.... I wouldn't like to gaming on two monitors only if.. I could have the PR map on my left monitor and the actual game on my right. But then again I have no idea what it's like to have dual/multiple set-up. :animal_rooster: (B.O.T.) I reckon the dual set-up would be a bit dodge with a giant piece of plastic where your crosshairs are. http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t136/varan92/sc_ii_2.png
June 5, 200915 yr i have dual screen set up, doesn't affect gaming at all, it only appears on one window, i have mumble and TS on the other screen, removing the need for an overlay, whenever i use a PC with just one screen, it bugs the hell outta me.
June 5, 200915 yr Author As evil has mentioned its a matter of having the game running on one monitor and applications running on the other. Its particularly good for us poor admins because it means I can do work or play games and still have BF2CC, teamspeak, forums or what have you running and I don't need to drop out of games or alt tab which too many games hate. BTW Evil do you run your games in a window like I mentioned? http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa188/VisOne_Photo/Signatures%20and%20Banners/VisP.png
June 5, 200915 yr Multiple Monitors FTW. If you use the right program, ie Ultramon or similar is very easy to put what you want where you want it,and if you have the PR Shortcut properties set up right the game won't "knock off" things on the other screens. You can click on what you want to on the other screens without Alt tabbing also. So yar..check out ultramon.(or I can send it to you if you want.) http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee118/bahlye/bahlye007/mouse_zps73307fb2.gif
June 5, 200915 yr yer ive been thinking of doing the same thing when i upgrade in a few months, having a nice big new monitor for my games, and my current 19 inch LCD for side apps, so i could multi task easier would also make modding so much easier for me lol. http://i.imgur.com/TLiDl.png
June 5, 200915 yr I run my games in windowed mode, so I can quickly alt-tab to talk to someone or do something, and at the same time still see whats going on ingame. http://www.ancientdev.com/images/devsig.png
June 5, 200915 yr How do you get it to run in windowed mode? I've dot DiabloII setup on my work laptop, screen res is massive compared to 800x600 D2 wants to run at so would be better to window it but cant find the icon/shortcut properties to do it. I know Supreme Commander allows you to take advantage of dual monitors, splitting it so the action is on one while your 'radar' is on the other. Some other games make good use of it too but cant recall of the top of my head. Would love a dual setup myself but my next purchase will just be a 24" as i seriously doubt the wife will let me fulfill my 'need' of having two monitors (o: There comes a time in every musician's life when they must decide what instrument they should master. June 5, 200915 yr McDeth for diablo 2 just add "-w" to the shortcut Also I can hook you up with the d2multiRes exe that'll let you play on single player at any resolution. Of course you can't play on Bnet with it, as it's a changed exe. http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee94/psyrus_uraya/awards-1.png QFT: Your computer is smart man. June 5, 200915 yr Could someone who knows this stuff well (Bahlye?) write up a sticky guide do you reckon? I'm assuming for a start we need to look at the hardware issues - can you run dual monitors on a 8600GT? http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/armouredservice.bmp

Windows recognises it and in the screen properties option you can set up where they sit, which is the main ect..ect... Ultramon is handy. It ads a task bar to the second screen and other handy things like 2 wallpapers and stuff. I use two old big CRT's and runs well. I use a trestle table as my puter desk (also have large amp as well) heaps of space. I would love to see more games with dual monitor capabilities. Only MS flight sim does as far as i've seen. You can set up different views on different monitors in that case. Edited June 5, 200915 yr by Chance1
June 5, 200915 yr I got bored a few days ago and set up dual monitors with my TV http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h72/mott_photos/IMGP1277Large.jpg http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h72/mott_photos/IMGP1275Large.jpg http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h72/mott_photos/IMGP1273Large.jpg The only problem i had was that if i clicked on the other (laptop) screen BF2 would minimize on the main (TV) one, does anyone know a way to fix this? I would love to see more games with dual monitor capabilities. Only MS flight sim does as far as i've seen. You can set up different views on different monitors in that case. World in conflict lets you have the mini map on one screen while playing the game on the other but it needs direct X 10 and therefore vista :disgust: can you run dual monitors on a 8600GT? Yeah that's what my card is and i have no problems performance wise as long as you have enough ports to plug in the other monitor Edited June 5, 200915 yr by Nighthawke189 http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h72/mott_photos/bigdcopy.jpg
June 5, 200915 yr I have two monitors but only run one because ATI's Catalyst Centre randomly changes my setup whenever I install or unistall a game or program. Here is a list of particularly awesome things: dogs sniping very spicy chilli cat claws on people (but still cool on cats)
June 13, 200915 yr Author Right I have my 2 new monitors and head set. Its all up and working need to grab ultramon its gonna take 10 mins DAM YOU TELSTRA CAP! I'm hoping my Sapphire ATI 4850 does not struggle with it and that I don't have the same problem Bishos30 has mentioned with Catalyst. We will just have to wait and see. However I have a question what do I need to do to my PR shortcut to get it to run windowed I have it setup like this so far. "C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +modPath mods/pr +modPath mods/pr +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +widescreen 1 +szx 1670 +szy 1040 http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa188/VisOne_Photo/Signatures%20and%20Banners/VisP.png

But, your shortcut is redundant anyway, as +widescreen is used in place of +fullscreen. So try just '+widescreen 0'. And, your resolution is wrong. Typo? Also, you need to add your playeName and playerPassword but I'm assuming you intentionally left it off too. http://imgur.com/e5y6e.gif You've already ruined these forums for me, I have no desire to read your rhetoric or the pathetic arguments you get yourself in to, or the personal vendetta you have against me, so please, do not talk to me. June 13, 200915 yr You don't need to add your playerName and pass SOP, can just log in normally, I do. That is a weird Res Vis, what screen are you using? http://www.clan-tea.com/sigs/flames/Poncho-Temp.png Orders starting with SOMEBODY usually wind up being completed by NOBODY.
June 13, 200915 yr i use dual monitors, The main screen for gaming etc, second screen has TS and Mumble plus whateva else i need open on it so i can see whos talking etc. http://i574.photobucket.com/albums/ss187/Chanvlan/new_kit.jpg yeah but this is the internet' date=' you have to expect the unexpected or else you'll get caught out by things you should've expected but didn't. Its exactly like knowing about the stuff you dont know about, that way you know theres stuff you dont know so when you know what you dont know you can say "ah i knew that!"[/quote']
June 13, 200915 yr +widescreen does not replace +fullscreen it just changes the aspect ratio to suit a widescreen monitor. :hi: Exactly, so if he is running +widescreen, he no longer needs +fullscreen? Unless he needs +fullscreen 0 to force windowed? ie. I don't have +fullscreen in my shortcut, only +widescreen and it works fine. Therefore, +widescreen replaces +fullscreen. You don't need to add your playerName and pass SOP, can just log in normally, I do. That is a weird Res Vis, what screen are you using? Yes, but why not do it automatically? No-brainer I would think, unless you are constantly changing aliases. And that screen res, is not standard , so I'm assuming he got the numbers wrong or a typo. It has to be 1680 x 1050 (16:10) for a standard resolution. Running a non-standard isn't wise. June 13, 200915 yr If he is running it windowed then a non standard res suits. Well vis ...are you ? :hi:
