i can't be f'ed going back to where i used to study karate , as i was alot younger when i did and my ideals of self defense and experience has changed alot since then.
i'm looking for a place that has a good emphasis on self defense that works and offers a good workout. Im also looking for MAs that have a strong focus of close combat striking and grappling. Unfortuantly cairns being the way cairns is , it's very limited. Here's what i pulled up from the martial arts directory online:
Brad Hope Taekwondo - i downright refuse to study under this man , i've heard enough stories about how much he likes to toot his own horn and there's a well known rumour which i've resisted from posting on here for his sake. Not only that but i don't feel confident about taekwondo's effectiveness.
Brasilian Jiu Jitsu - No idea , only thing i know is that this style has a strong emphasis on ground grappling. Anyone know any more?
Kansui-Ryu Karate Academy- can't find out much about this one , looked at a photo gallery , and from what i can see it looks alot like most traditional karate styles, from other pictures it seems to be a bit different. Anyone know more?
Kend Club Cairns - im taking it that someone put the title down wrong and that this is Kendo. No self defense application really and not ideally a style you'd find a good workout in , so im not interested.
Obah Tom- once again, im guessing that someone put down the title wrong , i can find absolutely nothing online about this. Anyone know more?
Sanshinkan Jiujitsu Ryu- No idea , but from knowledge , most forms of japanese Jiujitsu are very traditonal , probably not interested.
South Pacific Taekwon-Do - once again , i haven't really got that much interest in taekwon-do.
Tai Chi-Qi Gong For Health & Relaxation - No. Nothing against it, but it's not what im looking for.
From this limited amout here , im thinking i may have to look into boxing/kickboxing.
