Just a friendly reminder that when you have a moment to reflect today, make sure you reflect to this night, 3 years ago, when Australian PR players had their first ever 'proper' populated public game of PR on a local Aus server.

And for those of you that have no idea what I'm talking about:

Happy 3rd Birthday Australian PR.

You've already ruined these forums for me, I have no desire to read your rhetoric or the pathetic arguments you get yourself in to, or the personal vendetta you have against me, so please, do not talk to me. Ever. About anything.

Happy 3rd Aussie PR!

Thanks for the story telling SOP :)

On the topic of shiny auscam...

the sound they made while bush walking made it seem like I was doing mean things to little furry animals inside my pants :p

I'm releasing a cage full of Doves today to celebrate - no doubt I will be arrested.

ON another note, thankyou to everyone at bigD for making the only true gaming community that most of us have ever been part of. PR wouldn't be the same without such a friendly group of people running the show and making everything go smoothly behind the scenes :)

I played the early versions of the mini mod but never played online I was always playing co-op matches with a mate or by myself it wasn't till 0.3 I think that I played my first game online and it was on the original BigDy server. As you can see from my forum join date that was Nov/Dec 2006 I joined the forums after one of the regs at the time maybe Old1 or Householddog told me about them.

SOP that was awsome. I think the Aust comunity owes it to you :p

both servers are filling up FULL now its amazing

http://i574.photobucket.com/albums/ss187/Chanvlan/new_kit.jpg

yeah but this is the internet' date=' you have to expect the unexpected or else you'll get caught out by things you should've expected but didn't. Its exactly like knowing about the stuff you dont know about, that way you know theres stuff you dont know so when you know what you dont know you can say "ah i knew that!"[/quote']

If you look at the other full BF2 mods that have being made example Forgotten Hope 2 and Point of Existence you really can't but admit that PR would not have the base it has today if it wasn't for the BigDy/BigD/GSA servers and forums. They have being the only truly constant servers up with a community dedicated to playing just PR granted we all play allot of other games/mods on the side but BigD is foremost an PR orientated forum.

Now I don't mean to blow our own horn or that of PR both the other mods I have mentioned and many more are worthy of playing and I would have loved to see them take off like PR has. However its sadly just not the case and I for one think its because their was only ever a short burst of interest in them around each release. PR is lucky that it caters to a particular group/demographic of players who are on by and large pretty hardcore and tend to stick to a single game and return time and time again to that game. Not to mention it really does seem to be a incredibly effective catalyst for forming friendships even cutting though the boundary's of politics/race & age.

So here is to you all for making PR was it is today. :fans:

Here Here, was a nilla nub till I found out about PR cant quite remember who it was but I sure would like to thank them cause I never looked back.

I played a few games heard about the forums and that was me hooked, loved the community aspect and getting to know who you played with made so much better than the BF2 Aus servers.

Back when I joined 15-20 people was an awesome night.

I started playing on the Bigdy server when it was still up. Anybody got the lowdown of how and what was with that ?

As i recall it was a small isp affiliated with adam internet and we were using up all his bandwidth with the server?

Please anybody in the know illuminate us all.

:hi:

This kind of covers the history as far as I know/remember.

Their has being allot of work put into this mod here at BigD and it has taken almost 3 years to get it to the stage it is today. We had to move the servers when we out grew our original host. Thanks goes Big Dale for hosting us originally and then to GSA for accepting this pestilent child of a mod. They have given us 3 servers and a entire TS server of our own. All the while putting up with the crashes and the unexplained mishaps that come with modded BF2 servers. During all the time the admin team has done its best to build the community why nudging it in the right direction. So we had players who wanted to stay and enjoy the team work, fair play, sportsmanship & a good laugh. Instead of that 1337 bunny hoppying super soldiers that BF2 and some of its mod nurtured.

Here you go this explains it allot better from the first page of the Introduction thread.

Thanks for thinking it was me.

Im only a Johnny come lately.

It was actually WallyJas. He begged the owner of Bigdy Broadband to put the PR server they had back up some time ago. Dale, the owner loves the BF2 series and provided this server free of charge.

Since then, Dale has become flat out at work and Wally has moved on to a little BF2 mod of his own.

So im all thats left. Happy to help out and make this community tick.

So basically what happened is over the last 3 years the BigD servers have only being moved once. Originally they were hosted by Bigdy Broadband by Big Dale AKA Max_Bruiser? When the mod became fashionable around 0.5 I think it was. We out grew our first home and thanks to the BigD admin team and the GSA admin team we found a new home on GSA and renamed ourselves BigD/GSA in honour of our heritage and new home and with that here we are today.

That may explain Australia but I'm unaware of player numbers in the US, UK, Brasil, Germany for FH2 and POE. Do they meet PR numbers?

I often thought that PR has done as well as it did due to a few factors, not excluding what you mention. Firstly, the PRMM's hit the scene before any other mod had a real chance to blink. Version 1 with the accuracy changes was exactly what vanilla needed. And the rest followed.

During my hiatus from PR, whilst playing RO, I kept my eye on the HL2 mod, Insurgency. Now that is quite possibly, from my experience, a poorly managed mod. Their initial releases were quite buggy, some servers would crash constantly and no hotfix was forthcoming. The devs actually didn't give out any information regarding development and the forum userbase went absolutely mental. They tried stop-gap methods, hiring Public Relation forum members but a couple of them failed in their role.

Using that as an example of what not to do. I think the whole management surrounding the timely releases, reasonably timed information regarding development and showcases, have allowed PR, along with their mostly mature userbase, to play along harmoniously. It's a credit to them. Sure, they could improve in some places, but a lot of the onus goes straight onto the devs and their performance.

To be perfectly honest I don't know when I played those mods there was almost always more US/Euro servers up and populated but I'm not really sure about how long term they are or how much success they have.

Gratz to the BigD Community! :wine:

I feel the community and the PR mod is the strongest since I have been around (0.5?). Just check out the list of clans that are lining up to play in the ladder this season! PR gets a mention in PCPP mag! The only thing we now lack is fastropes, but I hear Chuc and Ancient are specifically working on that. ;)

Big thanks to folks like Darth, Jim, Bahlye, Daveee, Kindros and our other mods over the last three years for developing and maintaining the forums here, as well as managing what must be downright laughably idiotic behaviour from players at times. The high standard of posts and good discussion is a testament to a strong moderator team and (generally :) ) mature community. Nice one.

Well, I kept it in mind when I played last night and I would like to thank the squad that I played with on Barracuda at 2300 for making it one awesome game.

Kush, Krazzy, Jake, Me, itwire, Pirogoth. I have screenshots for the memories (will post later) but I can say that the 16 player of Barracuda (thanks Chief for pushing it) made for quite the awesome battle, even though we lost the war. Our squad dominated our objectives thanks to a cohesive unit and clear orders from Kush. It was a great game.

One humorous moment, after being raped on Fools Rd, was playing as Insurgents on Ramiel. We lost a cache so I fell back to defend another indicated one. I grabbed an AK off the cache and decided to defend the East side, hoping that someone would watch West (no one did). I deployed and laid prone, not moving besides side to side movement for what I estimate, at least 17-20 minutes. In the last 45 seconds of the round I finally saw 2-3 US guys, fired and killing one to have Wolf and dtacs appear from nowhere, ask me over Mumble what I was shooting at and then go and engage and kill them. 20 minutes of nothing for 15 seconds of firing. You won't see a vBF2 player doing that... ONLY IN PR. Ahh the memories.
