This is what I did to get punk buster working on Win 7:

http://msmvps.com/blogs/brianmadsen/archive/2009/01/14/windows-7-punkbuster-fix.aspx

I am using Win 7 x64 Build 7100.

If for some reason you cannot find PnkBstrA or B in your services list (Type service in windows search Bar, click on services). Than it means Punk buster didn't install properly, even tho it seemed like it did. Its something to do with Win 7, I had this issue.

To get it installed properly just run PBSVC.exe which you can download by clicking this link:

http://www.evenbalance.com/downloads/pbsvc/pbsvc.exe

Once you have done that follow the instructions on the web page I linked.

You should have no more issue.

If you do feel free to PM me with the error or issue you are having and I will try resolve it. I am becoming somewhat of a PB expert

Doesnt work for win 7 64 !

May work for 32 bit on some pb enabled servers.

Win 7 has new api calls that pb doesnt recognise so if you on 7 you have to dual boot xp or vista.

Although a virtual xp machine might work ??? anyone want to try?

:hi:

On all versions of 32 bit?

I know 7000 worked.

The linked article has an edited section saying it doesn't work.

Edit: after about 25 minutes of play Punkbuster kicked me again with a driver issue…so, still no fix…will keep looking

You've already ruined these forums for me, I have no desire to read your rhetoric or the pathetic arguments you get yourself in to, or the personal vendetta you have against me, so please, do not talk to me. Ever. About anything.

Wrong Plate.

I am on Win 7 x64 Build 7100.

It works very well, have been playing few rounds now, only issue was a CTD on load once or twice. SOP I had exactly the same thing, got kicked for driver the second time I loaded in but that was only because of Mumble Overlay.

Interesting.

Well then, thanks for the info. I have BF2 installed on D: but I reinstalled C:, any one aware how I can add the registry entries to start it up so I can test it?

Poncho you would be the only person in the internets who did get bf2 playable on a pb enabled public server using windows 7 64bit build 7100 rc as of last week.

However the new build 7127 does seem to be playable. Will test more and report back.

:hi:

Buh? There's a newer one... *sigh*

I got it working on rc7100 even played a few rounds last night, that thread poncho linked to was a little confusing and the most important bit was hard to see.

For those that are on rc7100 you need to open up services.msc and start punkbuster b at the start of each gaming session, as well as allowing them to interact with the desktop (which is also done in services.msc).

Sound with an Audigy4 is still buggy though, (just like Vista64) going to try my xonar DX soon though to see how it goes.

Every time you update the windows build do you have to do a whole operating system reinstal?

Not sure. Believe a newer build will install over the top of an older one and pick up any installed software.

I did a fresh install with 7127 64bit bf2 pr and punkbuster

set a and b pbsvc to run as admin for all users and havent had an issue with api kicks yet. Played a full round of fools road with a complete set of pb calls during match and not kicks. Woot.

No, you download the new version and select Upgrade.

You couldn't upgrade from beta to RC, but now they are all RC's, upgrade should be fine.

Keep playing Fallen...test it more and pls let me know, i am hanging for this to work.

Had a few hours on the servers last night with no pb issues. I do not need to manually start pbsev b each round. All seems to work as it did under xp.

Only action other than install was to manually set pbsev a and b to run as admine for all users.

Im using the win 7 64bit 7127build rc

latest 185.85 nvidia drivers

latest realtek hd drivers

latest intel mb drivers

on a dfi x48 mb and e8500 cpu .

I tried a weeks worth of internet sourced methods to get the 7100 build working with no success lasting more than 30 min.

First time on BigD servers with the new build I saw it selfupdate the pbserv A initially then been no problems since.

Come on in the waters fine. :hi:

Umm not sure....its look kinda deep...how about u swim a bit further out first :p

Game on some more..if your still swimming by the weekend i will jump in.

Mind doing up a guide for the less technical and posting a new thread?

I havent done anything techy . pb must have updated to allow win 7 api calls.

Did a fresh install of win 7 64bit (dualboot win xp64) updated vid drivers and mb drivers. installed bf2 1.41 patch prcore then prmaps. dl pbsetup ran it as admin for all users.

Started PR used taskmanager to set (right click properties-compatablity) PnkBstrA and PnkBstrB to run as admin for all users.

joined BigD server1 and pb updated PnkBstrA .

Other than that I did nothing and Ive had no problems other than overlay issues with mumble and a gpu overclocking prog. Both fixed and not win 7 related.

PR now runs for me exactly like it does in xp 32 or 64 . Click and play..

Splish splash Im a taking a bath..

Any updates? Or still looking good?

i think i may have found a fix to the 64bit (im not too sure about it tho i done alot of changes to get PR working) i think it has something to do with the User account control (UAC) if you dissable this then you shouldnt have anymore PB problems. i make no promises

Ive been playing PR on win 7 64bit rc7127 for the last week.

New build doesnt have issues with PB or Pb has fixed there issues with the unsupported beta windows 7. Either way Ive had no problems with api kicks.
