Posted May 14, 200915 yr Did any of you ever play a half-life mod called Firearms? This game was so good in its day and I bet you could still have some fun with this on a full server. Anyways it looks as though they have nearly finished the Source version. This was great when there were Australian servers and I hope they do the source version some justice... Check it out at http://www.firearms-source.com Firearms vid [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrmQDtqqtf4&feature=related]YouTube - FireArms Reverb [FA MOD][/ame] Firearms source vid [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKBoA4FoPss&feature=related]YouTube - Firearms: Source Gameplay Video[/ame] P.S. its not as deathmatchy as it looks. May 14, 200915 yr Ooooh yeah baby. I played Firearms Halflife a heck of a lot back in the ol' WON and early Steam days. Before the community waned and I got into Specialists. What impressed me was their attention to detail, especially with their animations. Their magazine system also was very interesting. Looking very forward to this.. May 14, 200915 yr Author Yes fellow old skool people. How good was it!!! i used to love making sneaky stealth assasins with a silenced mp5 and machine pistols. Cant remember but I think you could do dual berettas or something, or was that just specialist? http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa188/VisOne_Photo/shuffle34.jpg “No point in mentioning these bats, I thought. May 14, 200915 yr TS was great. Never played firearms. Used to love Natural Selection back in the day too. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/e/ee/US_Army_E-2.svg/50px-US_Army_E-2.svg.png http://img527.imageshack.us/img527/4927/awardslf0.png
May 14, 200915 yr Author TS was great. Never played firearms. Used to love Natural Selection back in the day too. May 14, 200915 yr There was a realism mod/patch/mode for firearms back in the day that changed it so you had 200% damage, -50% walk speed, +50% recoil or something like that. That was the greatest mod ever at the time. Though I still can't believe they don't have iron sights and prone among other features in source = not worth playing in this day and age where so many games have much better features IMHO.
May 14, 200915 yr Wait they don't have prone? Did they specify this in FA: Source? http://i.imgur.com/wofKY.jpg Portfolio Site http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/OperationCrownRibbon02.jpghttp://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/opagamaserv.jpg
May 14, 200915 yr I was talking about the default source engine which doesn't have a prone function, games like half life source, CS source and the like. Firearms had a prone so i am sure they will have it in firearms source. But they really need a proper prone, not the prone from the original firearms which was simply a prone hitbox and animation but controlled like you were crouching. Then again prone really doesn't work in the source engine period, the maps are all tiny little CQB spamfests. It is still the source engine after all. Running and jumping > tactical stance and cover. I would be happy to be proven wrong though. Edited May 14, 200915 yr by mrchickenfool
May 14, 200915 yr I loved FA, I spent many an hour on my dialup connection getting owned and loving it...parachuting in, breaking a leg and limping around...if I remember correctly you put a flag down for the guy on the mortar to aim at right?
May 15, 200915 yr Author the maps are all tiny little CQB spamfests. It is still the source engine after all. Running and jumping > tactical stance and cover. I would be happy to be proven wrong though. They did what they could with the engine. Somehow this game still managed to steer away from the deathmatch spamfest feel. The tactics employed had a little more substance then say CS or TF etc... http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa188/VisOne_Photo/shuffle34.jpg “No point in mentioning these bats, I thought. May 15, 200915 yr I used to play allot of Firearms and Day of Defeat still love to give the original DO a bash every now and again. As for the whole source ports/engine thing I have a great distaste for it other than looking pretty is has done nothing for the mods. http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa188/VisOne_Photo/Signatures%20and%20Banners/VisP.png
May 16, 200915 yr Author Yes I also played a fait bit of DOD and still occasionally give it a bash. http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa188/VisOne_Photo/shuffle34.jpg “No point in mentioning these bats, I thought. Poor bastard will see them soon enough.” Raoul Duke.
