Some of you might remember about a month ago I made a thread about how my mouse was acting strangely. Well I'm back again with similar troubles. This time is my brand new not even a month old Cyber Snipa - Stinger mouse. It has pretty much died in the arse and now I have to us my oldest MX 518 that has being sitting in my brothers room.

My bro seems to think I have power issues with my PC which might be the case but I have no idea how to check/test that or how that affects some USB devices but not others. So if anyone has any ideas I would love to hear them.

You may have a few USB 1.0 ports or un-powered 2.0 ports, normally the ones in the rear of the computer are 2.0 so try swapping the mouse around to one of them. Other than that it could be you have an old motherboard with bad USB ports?

Nope the motherboard is quite new I have tried all 8 of the USB ports on the mother board as well as the 2 on my G15 keyboard. Sometimes the mouse will come back on for a little while about 2 mins then loses power and is useless.

I have also tried to use it on my laptop without success.

I have put in a support ticket on the Cyber Snipa website as well and if that doesn't work out I'll send it back for testing I guess.

There is nothing there that is remotely to blame....I guess it might be the mouse! Have you looked at downloading all the drivers for it?

Have only used the out of the box drivers for the mouse but drivers shouldn't cause hardware to cease receiving power. I didn't have any trouble with the at all even when I was using it for the first couple of days without the drivers and macro software.

Plug mouse into the laptops USB 1.0 port the mouse starts fine and all of its lights are on. It stays on for about 3 mins then blacks out, comes back on for a few seconds and blacks out for good.

every time one has died for me, all very cheep ones it has been the lead just where it comes out of the mouse. the wire breaks or starts to, and you get intermittent movement and you lose power. I just cut the lead and re-solder it a bit shorter :)

Well, if that has happened to your mouse that early Vis I suggest you get a refund for it. Maybe have a look at another mouse or get a replacement?

I'm going for a replacement first its such a great mouse has a bucket load of buttons, weight system and you can macro every button on it.

I've got a G5 Logitech. I put the first (closest) thumb button as switch firing modes

G5 FTW!!! . . . well the newer version, i got the one with one thumb button which sucks. also since the reinstall, the adjustment for the sensativity (its in touch with its fenamin side) doesn't remember my settings, just defaults to the 'medium'. I have it on high an the wife has it on low. Never had a problem with it before but now its just gone average by default /o:

Could it be a software/OS problem or perhaps an IRQ conflict?

Try disabling your serial ports and com ports in your bios (you never use them) and then reformatting (there is a way to manually assign IRQ's but I have no idea on how to do it).

You've already ruined these forums for me, I have no desire to read your rhetoric or the pathetic arguments you get yourself in to, or the personal vendetta you have against me, so please, do not talk to me. Ever. About anything.

lol dam you that sounds like allot of work and I have never liked playing with my bios at all.

It's two settings, I have a similar board to you so if you want I can point it out to you. You could just try disabling them straight up, it might end the conflict if that's the cause.

Go to your Device Manager, then View, then Resources by Type and click on the IRQ section.

See if anything major, like vid card or your mouse or soundcard are sharing IRQs with other IRQs.

you don't have power saving mode turned on the USB ports do you? (Computer Management>USB Root Hub>Power Management)

You can also check your other usb device status' from here also. It can give you a clue whether you may be drawing too much power from one hub or not, which is unlikely, but still.

Have you tried unplugging every other USB device and only having the mouse in?

Sometimes when my old joystick went funny I unplugged all the other USB devices then replugged the Joystick and it worked again.

The first thing you should do is see if the mouse works properly in/on another computer. If it doesn't then the problem is the mouse (warranty replacement job). If it does then you know the problem is your computer hardware or software and you can start further testing.

So how do you become an expert suicide bomber?

Yeah - I've had intermittent problems with USB ports not being able to supply enough power for higher powered laser mice before. Definately do two things Vis:

1) See if the problem replicates on the rear/another USB port, and

2) See if the problem replicates on another PC

Then we can fault find. Almost certainly it is related to the port hardware, though, and not the drivers.

Sounds like the mouse to me too. Specially since you've tried it in two different PC"S.

You could try going into event viewer and check for related errors.

Have you checked to see whether there is a firmware update for it?

VIS.... check your power management settings in the bios & in windows to make sure there isnt a setting in there thats telling the usb to go night night.... that power cable breaking sounds like a possibility though...

on another note & you wont like this... I got a cyber snipa SWAT cheap POS laser mous which lasted about a year... was only 40 bucks and was pretty good, but, then, one day, bam! not want to work & when it does only for a few minutes... Gave it to my daughter on another machine using XP & no problem, works fine.... I use Vista home premium... maybe you can blame Microsoft or Bill Gates... I Did :)

Here is some more news about this I could not find the receipt of purchase the tech support guys at Cyber Snipa said they cannot do anything about it because there warranty is for user end or some such. So without my receipt I cannot get it replaced or even looked at for free so its being living on my counter when I have being using my MX 518. Anyway I've being cleaning today and have decided to put the Stinger back on the PC and see how it goes.

FREAKEN SWEET !!!!!!! I just found the receipt for the mouse if it plays up again I will take it back. ;)

Nice one Vis, I have a special folder for all my hardware purchase receipts, because twice in the past I lost the receipts but luckily they told me that since I ordered online I only had to give them my user ID and look up the order number and they'd be able to verify that I had bought the item from them... sooo lucky! After that, every time I buy something I go straight to the folder and chuck the receipts in.
