During World War II the Army Corps of Engineers needed to hide the Lockheed Burbank Aircraft Plant to protect it from a Japanese air attack. They covered it with camouflage netting and trompe l’oeil to make it look like a rural subdivision from the air.

u guys heard of the "secret" runway in singapore? its one of their highways, in times of war they will close off the highway and can use it as a military runway.

pretty sure Sweden and Taiwan have a similar thing. Allows for dispersal of fighters so if the main bases are attacked they have other places to fly from to keep on with the fight.

The RFDS land on the highways in remote areas to pick up patients and take them into town.

Yea, I was about to say if you have driven in the NT then you will notice that some of the roads are much wider and actually have landing strip markings on them.
