Posted April 19, 200916 yr Looks like WWII RTS's are the "it" thing for game studio's right now Order of War Between their impending purchase of Eidos, their creation of a California development studio and their recent interest in iPhone gaming, Square Enix has taken great strides towards shedding their stereotypical portrayal as the small Japanese studio that birthed Final Fantasy. But today, they've taken a bigger step than diehard fans were likely prepared for. This autumn, Square Enix will publish Order of War, a PC-based real-time strategy game set in World War II Europe, without a console release, sci-fi plot or androgynous band of angst-ridden teens in sight. Check out the teaser trailer if you don't believe me! Developed by Wargaming.net, perhaps best known for their Massive Assault series of strategy titles, Order of War promises to let players control "up to 1,000 soldiers, tanks, armored vehicles, artillery and air planes" at a given time, from the vista-perspective of a "unique dynamic camera," across real, historic missions in both the American and Russian campaigns of 1944 Germany. The game will feature both deathmatch and skirmish multiplayer modes. Though Order of War has only been confirmed for North America and Europe so far, Square Enix promises that the game will see release "across all PAL territories in Autumn 2009." http://games.on.net/article/5583/Square_Enix_to_publish_Order_of_War_--_a_World_War_II_RTS_for_PC Personally i can't wait, i just hope it isn't dumbed down for the retarded masses.
April 19, 200916 yr Super another good looking game to watch the only problem with games getting bigger in regards to how many units you can field is the bloody path finding. Half the time I seem to be baby sitting my most powerful vehicles or units just to make sure they are in the fight when it counts no stuck on a rock somewhere. http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa188/VisOne_Photo/Signatures%20and%20Banners/VisP.png
April 20, 200916 yr Red Alert 3 blows. I find all the game styles like this eminently frustrating. Selecting units and directing them becomes a real head-F**K for me... I feel that (in the games I have tried) large scale battles haven't really ever been successfully rendered into a successful gaming experience. Yet. I realise this is a bit OT, but blah... April 20, 200916 yr The problem with all the command and conquer series is if you have say 30 tanks, they take no formation at all and end up going in 1 at a time and getting dominated, splitting them into groups of 5 and sending them all in from slightly different angles is just a pain. Hopefully people start making formation buttons so they dont do such retarded ****.
April 20, 200916 yr Red alert 3 was such a fail I remember playing it at a friends place - it felt like a freaking 3 year olds game - so simplified and stupidly colourful Good Conduct http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/goodconduct.bmp
April 20, 200916 yr I was gonna buy RA3 until I looked at screenshots, looks too futuristic for me, never been my cuppa tea. The original command and conquer and RA were the best imo. I may purchase Order of War depending on the sorts of reviews it gets.
April 20, 200916 yr Well need to find allot more out about Order of War first considering right now we know sweet F all about it. Is it a builder? Is their some sort of resource system? Is it like Panzers where you are given point before hand to outfit your force then you duke it out? So many variables and they have given us nothing but the same old spew about refighting the battles of WW2. http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa188/VisOne_Photo/Signatures%20and%20Banners/VisP.png
