This from [R-DEV]eggman....posted 9th. may, 2007

Eggman has this to say about the new patch.

hopefully OB <10 days, release ~ 14 days after that.

Released 0602 "b" to beta test yesterday. I think that is our 5th test release so far in the v0.6 dev cycle. Next test release will be 0603 which I hope we put together this weekend. That needs to run through some basic tests to make sure there are no major CTD (crash to desktop) like issues .. assuming that's all ok, the 0603 build will be the open beta build.

Open Beta should run for no more than 10 to 14 days and during that time we'll put together a private v0.604 test build which will become the v0.6 release.

Note that we have no intention of trying to release a "perfect" piece of software .. we just want to get the major issues identified with the open beta and possibly address some glaring game play dynamics & balance issues.

So hopefully sometime late this month or early next we should see the new patch out for good hopefully we will also see a change on the general attitude of the players as well. All that said I'm not overly joyed at the idea of another patch considering my current feeling on this patch and what I've read of the upcoming changes only time will tell.

women in fishnet stockings and/or grown women dressed like school girls... that makes me horny... among other female adornments

a new version of the mod is great... but procreation is something altogether more special..

~blacky thanks vis for quotation error fixy fixy~

I feel your pain Vis in regards to some of the player attitudes ATM,

There's a lot of new names entering the servers lately and some inexperienced and selfish attitudes to.

Inexperienced I can deal with but selfishness....UH UH!

When I first started playing PR (not that long ago) I wouldn't have complained about anyone playing on bigD

(and I don't think many of you would've either), But it's a little different now.

I think (hope like hell) things will get better as some of the new guys play more and realise what this game is about.....teamwork.

Don't lose hope Vis, not yet.

And Sandy I agree : grown women in school uniforms......YES.

Does it make me horny?? Not really because the full mod will be released sometime near my exams, which isnt a bad thing. What would make me blow my load is the possibility of shotguns actually killing something. I'm sorry but currently the double-tap method for the MEC doesn't quite work for the non-MEC shotguns, their cycle-rate is too low. **EDIT** Add onto the fact that someone can withstand a FULL load of buckshot at under 2 meters and you can understand my frustration

BTW - to those two of you who voted that they have erectile problems - we have traced your identity and we will do something suitably embarrassing for you when the appropriate time arises.

And should it? I mean, its unrefutable proof that the things are under-powered. At that range, you would be knocked down, possibly unconcious, definate internal heamoraging and, if aimed half decently, dead. Now, im not saying that they should kill at that range but there definatly needs to be more penalty at extremely close range. Double bleeding (one bandage doesnt fix it) or maybe forcing an instant-prone or perhaps even having the same motion you get when going from prone to crouch (to represent you reeling from the blow) would solve it. Unfortunatly, I dont forsee how they can fix it without the shotty becomeing one of the most used weapons out there.

A shotty at that distance would rip your ribcage open even under a vest. Kevlar is only designed to stop a single projectile coming at you from one spot.

A shotty is like 100 things shredding at you. Maybe they need to put a Sabot case round in instead of that ball bearing shiznitz. That sucka would pack some punch.

Kindros, you remain my idol for coming up with this stuff.

Me Idolised? ....Nooo it couldn't be?

You would be hard pressed to find a vest which could withstand a millitary grade shotgun. Especially if its shooting sabots or flechettes. Bullets make a nice small hole when entering the vest and usually break on the ceramic plate in military issued ones. If you get shot by a shotgun though it will rip through the layers of Kevlar depending on the amount of shot used, and how close you are shooting from.

Kevlar can be cut and ripped, it is only strong when catching a projectile, and even then it tears through. You think I'm stupid and know crap all, but I don't care.

Also the most common place where a soldier would be shot from would be his side rib cage, mainly because a shotgun is a CQB weapon, and the user would be standing in an entry way. Funnily enough this is where the most fatal wounds are also found when being shot with this weapon, even when wearing a vest because it has very little protection on the sides because of the overall design and the anatomy of a soldier. Arms get in the way.

Lies Lies and half truths real men get shot in the shoulder act like it hurts bad to confuse the bad guy but live on to fight and get the girl/daughter back. But your most certainly right in all regards you would probably need to be wearing a bomb disposal suit to take a shot from a shotgun under 10m's. Then you would still be hoping the spread was contained to the chest because I doubt even the flash mask's they wear would shot it at that range.

http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa188/VisOne_Photo/Signatures%20and%20Banners/VisP.png

Those masks are only like Pyrex. They would crack and splinter at that close a range, if not being blown off your head from the shock blast.

I have always wondered why Bullet-Proof vests didn't use a hard laminated Kevlar panel on the rib areas instead of the Ceramic shield plate. The size and strength of the Kevlar would compensate for the weight of the Ceramic and make mobility easier.

I would hazard a guess its because laminated kevlar wouldn't stop sharp shrapnel or knifes the way a hard ceramic plate would.
http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa188/VisOne_Photo/Signatures%20and%20Banners/VisP.png

I dunno, they make Army helmets of the stuff. By laminated I mean they mix it in sheets and glue it all together to make a hard plate. They don't need to stop the bullet the vest does that bit, though it just has to disperse the fragments.

The Ceramic plate isn't for stopping a ballistic bullet, its for slowing and breaking it up into manageable chunks. If you could have the same thing but lighter why not use it? You could even wrap a Carbon Fiber shell or two around it also. They have been using the same concept on Ice Hockey sticks for years, and those suckers don't break unless a skate jumps on them. Very light, and can take a very big beating.

yeah also , in response to a previous post , ceramic/ballistic plates do not or vary rarely stop knives/blades. The US army learnt that a long time ago when a accident happened involving knives and the ideal that a ballistic plate with kevlar could stop a thrusted knife.

A Ballistic plate only covers a very small area of the torso, pretty much from the V at the top of your ribs, to your stomach, and about 20cm or so across. Kevlar can be cut, thats why it is pretty much useless to shrapnel types of weapons and knives.

They way the vest works is that it uses loose layers of material crossing the previous layers grain. No two layers grains will match. When the bullet enters the material it will rip through, but be slowed. The big trick to the vests though is that it actually uses the human skins tensile strength and surface area to absorb the round. When you are shot, it does hurt and you will come out of it with a nasty looking bruise.

There is a vest out I believe it is called Dragon Skin, which uses a scale effect to stop knife attacks. I believe the idea was actually thought up by a British policewoman.

Yeah there's alot of hype around the Dragon Skin but it like any scale mail armour has its limitations such as the degree at which a projectile enters.
