hey everyone.

SHORT VERSION

the game is freaking awesome, class A graphics, excellent squad based shooter that needs to be played on veteran or authentic. environment not completely destructible as promised but still good, cinematic, slightly to many and too long cut scenes weapons feel right and are still hard to hit anything with but this is a good thing, hire it if you like tactical shooters, buy it if you like intense ww2 tactical games with an emphasis on fire and maneuver/base of fire tactics.

LONG VERSION

Just got this game this morning, and have to say first few hours of it were great, although i was pretty pumped for its release, being a fan of earned in blood.

It looks amazing, the unreal engine is bloody superb and renders the environment like nothing else ive seen. it really is something else fighting in perfect blue sky sunshine bathed fields straight out of the 40's. Puts the frostbite engine to shame in my opinion. that said id heard that everything was destructible at point, not pre-designated shatter points on objects, this isn't the case although wooden and soft objects do break apart a bazooka round to a stone fence or a wooden veranda of a building made an impressive cloud of smoke but didn't do any actual damage. The only reason i care about that thou is because it was sorta hyped that everything was destructible, aside form that its great.

The AI leaves abit to be desired but im only playing it on casual first time through, there is an authentic mode which should be awesome when unlocked. squad dynamics are excellent although controls are a little difficult to pick up, switching between squads on the fly takes abit to get used to but don't take to long to get a handle on.

Weapons are rendered very well and behave as they should, hitting anything in this game is difficult and makes effective squad tactics essential. you now have access to 30. cal MG teams as well.

the game itself actually looks better than all the cut scenes and ther are some pretty intense momnets in the first few hours of the game and can see your squad taking on upto 20 germans at once, al moving in cordination employing fire a move techniques, although one you start putting fire on them they lose their smarts pretty quick, hoping taht in the authentic mode AI will be harder.

All in all a solid game, first quality relase on 360 ive played in awile, taht said i havnt played force unleashed

I've been waiting for this game for ages. I'll be so excited when i get the PC version.

Also bit off topic but can anyone confirm how different german infantry doctrines and SOPs were to American infantry during WW2?

yeaaa booooy.

Hmm I looked at it the other day and have played the other Brothers In Arms and found them to be lacking but with a glowing review like this I might have to look at it again.

PS I have force unleashed and its pretty dam good only thing that irks me about it so far is the lack of lock on targeting, yes it tells you what your about to use your force powers on but it doesn't allow you to lock onto it.

i dunno, when i first looked into this game (waaaay back in like 2006/07....) i was pumped for it and it looked stunning.... but now after they switched engines the graphics seem almost cartoony IMHO, that sorta put me off it tbh... for example, if u jump on youtube and find one of the earlier vids showing a mission (starts with a cut scene where they are in a old toyshop and all this thn get attacked and have to go find the flak batteries) it looks beautiful, but some of the latest vids, to me, look crap, way to cartoony for my likeing... also i really dislike the way the cover works (the 3rd person lean cover, and the fact that if u stand out in the open when there are hostiles are around your screen goes red....). im going to weight along time till i decide to get this one, plus far cry 2 and call of duty 5 come out in the next few months...

The cover system is a modified version of the one seen in games like Rainbow six vegas, however I too disliked it when I first saw it, but it the modified version works rather well in BIA. As for the "red screen" it's the same effect in the COD series, rather then a static health condition.

If you like realism you are doing yourself a great disservice by not playing the BIA series, as IMO it is the only game series to have effectively captured fire and movement/maneuver tactics that infantry rely on, firefights are long and drawn out unless you can maneuver to where the enemy doesn't have cover, and just like in real life, it's 50% tactical application and 50% sheer balls out luck. The new features and AI just make a great experience better. It seriously could pass for Band of Brothers: The game.

cod 2 / mohaa remade?

Wouldn't even dare to compare the two games. COD/MOH is a action shooter with heavily scripted scenes as if you were in a war movie, that takes alot of historical liberties. BIA series is a tactical realism squad based FPS.

To say BIA is in anyway similar to COD/MOH is like a comparison of vanilla BF2 to PR.
