Regarding the bug where one side is unable to create a squad at the start of the round...

We had to have a few server restarts over the weekend because of it.

This is thought to be caused by players creating squads too soon (before the map has actually finished loading properly). The DEV team and Server Admins are discussing various workarounds/solutions - but being a vanilla bug from back in the day its not so easy to get rid of.

The short term solution is to NOT create squads so quickly at the start of the round - so please wait 15-30 seconds before creating a squad and squad bugs should not be a problem.

 

Also - please do not create a squad, leave, create, leave, create, leave at the start of a round or create a squad and wait for someone/a couple people to join then create a new squad (and repeat again).

Either create a squad and be prepared to lead or do not create a squad at all. The people who do this will know what I mean - I'm not talking about the occasional leaving to join friends in another squad sort of thing.

I think it is more likely that these players don't read the forums, any chance of temporarily adding a tip to the welcome message?

im not sure if you guys are aware of this but we had an issue yesterday afternoon where we where unable to creat new squads because 2 other squads where locked and the other 2 open squads where full so the poor ppl trying to joing the server where anable to play for about 10 mins due to this happening. there where only 4 squads at this time.

never heard of that one before, know about the 'dont create a squad as soon as the map loads cos it'll be royally snafu'd' one tho, but like most things wonderful thats been hardcoded into bf2 right Devs?

its a regular thing the whole only a certain number of squads can be made.

 

its the same squad bug, just simply some slots for the squads havent been blocked.

 

its a case where the server THINKS there is someone in each of the squad slots so no more can be made, so naturally u can get the glitch where 5 slots are occupied by what i can the server's memory and the others with actual humans.

And as I said the other day in another thread...squad bugs are probably the main reason for having to restart the server...and its a pita....

 

Please spread the word on the servers...especially to non forum members.

There's an american server that if an admin is on and someone creates a squad before 1:30, that person is kicked, repeat offenders banned. That's probably taking it too far, but I have noticed it happening more and more... so it's something to consider.

tell everyone to clear their cache before every game of PR causing slower map loads XD

 

but in all seriousness there isnt really much you can do about it as most if not all players who cause these problems dont read the forums

I don't know if this has any bearing on the squad bug at all, but yesterday afternoon, after my first round as a squad member the map changed and when the next had loaded I was still in the same squad as the leader and on the opposing team to the previous round. I left the squad after 2:30 and swapped back to my team, only to have it happen the next round as well.

 

Any idea on why this would happen?

 

I think the maps were mestia and sunset I had the issues with.

ive had it happen before, where at the start of every map I would already be in a squad of my own on the same team set I was on last round (ie., American, American, British, etc.)

just everyone spam 'NO SQUADDING YET' for like a minute at the start of a round. They'll get the message.

Unfortunately that dosent seem to work, i often see the same people squadding up early every round, even after myself and a number of others keep repeating "PLEASE do not make squads so early". They even continue to do so after the have someone join their squad and tell them over VOIP. I agree that something in the server message would be great.

Easy fix - HAVE IT IN YOUR SERVER MESSAGE WHEN LOADING MAPS.

having it your server message i think is the best way to combat this problem, without getting to over board, like what Psyrus said.

We have been getting 2, maybe 3 squad bugs a week lately at the most.

Which isn't bad considering the amount of rounds played on our 3 servers in the space of a week.

 

But yar...will see about getting it added to the server messages as its a pita,both for the players and the admins having to restart the server and switch maps when it happens.

I have seen a lot of servers having it pop up ingame telling people not to make squads, maybe we could get this when the admin list pops up? Although the loading screen message would probably work just as well

 

But can someone confirm the actual time we have to wait to? I have heard you have to wait till 2:30, I have always thought it was to 2:00 but have also been told 1:30. Anyone know the official time we should wait to?

dunno sorry mate - but I'd suggest 1:30 is enough time to get squads organised.

 

 

 

I was very unimpressed with the name calling and complaining after one occurred last night by some people.... totally unneccessary.... stuff happens, move on....

People still fail to realise that there are two issues here.

 

1. People intentionally creating squads as soon as they load in to the server, earlier than the 02:30 point.

2. A BF2 bug that, when a player joins the server as the server is changing maps drops them into a squad, despite them not previously being on the server. This creates the illusion of them creating a squad before anyone else has even loaded in.

 

I'll reiterate that people shouldn't be abusing each other, EVER ... but especially don't do it for this reason, because you never know if it was intentional or if it was the above mentioned bug.

 

If you notice someone doing it time and time again, then send in a player report so that we as admin can pull the individual aside and have words with them. If they continue to do it after we've spoken to them about it, then normal process will be followed and they'll take a holiday from the servers for disruptive gameplay.

 

Unfortunately, a server message won't help with the 2nd cause of this bug. It will only assist in the 1st cause and only then when people actually bother to read the server message, which will be maybe 1 out of every 5 people, on every 10th rotation of the message.

I know it was me who raged last night, I saw the person causing it by creating/leaving a squad for at least 30 seconds.

 

I then said stop and he called me a tard. I love idiots.

Its also caused by people swapping sides and instantly creating a squad (does not have to occur in countdown but is most common)

Yes True...But if the Admins find anyone deliberately causing a squad bug they will be banned.

 

Our spare time is limited enough as it is without having to fix things that people decide to screw up for the rest of the players.

 

Unintentionally doing it is one thing,they will learn,but there will be ZERO tolerance with anyone who causes a squad bug deliberately.

Whether its to get people to change servers or just being a pita.

I would be very disappointed(and kinda surprised tbh) if any of the community members were to cause a squad bug on purpose,but if ANYONE is seen doing something that may deliberately cause a squad bug.

A-Pull them up on it.

B-Report them so we can jump on them with both feet.

That is pretty true about people never reading it, usually on the load screen i go away and come back and never check the messages except when im running endlessly.
