Fear is another word for weakness.
And I wouldn't say particularly a kids game. Similar to little big world, there appears to be a great deal of depth in this game, with reasonable replayability. The only thing sorely missing is a multiplayer component.

QFT: Your computer is smart man. It tells you not to play the second worst PR map [burning Sands] (first is Wanda Shan).

QFT: if you dont get pissed off when you lose you dont care enough

It actually looks pretty fun. Is there a multiplayer aspect to it?

Here is a list of particularly awesome things:

dogs

sniping

very spicy chilli

cat claws on people (but still cool on cats)

WEll there is, everytime you connect to Spore it updates your 'Universe' so to speak, so youll be able to conquer players planets all over the universe just they will be controlled by an AI who's style of comabat represents that of the player in real life. I think you can hunt down players planets and destroy them and then Im not sure what happens....Ill have to wait till I actually get it. Also I think Maxis is continously adding content, like you can pick up parts to add to your creature or use when you make a new race.

First link is about the crazy bad DRM system that EA have implemented. 3 installs and that's it. You then have to call EA and prove you purchased the game after that fact to reinstall again. Basically, you rent the game from EA.

Second link is a review from Arstechnica.

Conclusions

Spore is certainly an interesting experience overall, the first time through. It presents a very wide range of gameplay types, unique features in the form of the Sporepedia and Sporecasts, and a final phase that is diverse in its challenges and wide in its scope. Unfortunately, the game has something of a clinical feel; the fun factor might not be there for a large audience. There's definitely some enjoyment to be had in the building-block game-play of the first phases, but I'm not sure it can really keep everyone’s interest long enough for them to get to the meat of the experience—the Space phase.

Perhaps the whole concept of Spore is just too high, when all is said and done. I honestly had more fun with the rather middlebrow The Sims series. But one also gets the uncomfortable feeling that each phase is now just a shell to be filled in with upcoming expansions and for-pay content packs. Imagine an expansion pack release for each phase, adding in the depth that's sorely missing. It's not a fun thought.

EA strikes again?

You've already ruined these forums for me, I have no desire to read your rhetoric or the pathetic arguments you get yourself in to, or the personal vendetta you have against me, so please, do not talk to me. Ever. About anything.

yaaa, i am getting a feeling from this game that after about 4 or 5 goes ill end up just making random ships and creatures. maybe it wasnt worth the money.... just makes me love PR even more

I paid a $100 for it because I brought a hard copy from Harvey Normans 1 because I was too lazy to drive to EB or Gametraders and probally get it cheaper and 2 I didn't give a dam about the price.

I am still playing the space phase now I've found its pretty dam good doesn't have that much micro management although you often have to defend your planets and friends from pirates, hostile invasions and a "super race" called the grox who can wipe the floor with you at the start. In all the phases you can choose how you intend to win if your like me I spent my younger phases being the biggest with the most bitey bits and weapons but now I use trade and politics to make more friends and only fight the races who I can best easily.

Its really up to you the 3 activations is a bitch but it does look like the way that games are going, I know I own another game called Mass Effect that has the same sort of install although its based on hardware its still simply where publishers are moving too.

They are only moving that direction if you let them.

If they have a crappy DRM system DON'T BUY THE GAME. That's the only way they will learn. Coming from the EA thread where someone bought the same game twice, perhaps publishers will never get that memo.

i paid 80 for it. went halves with my roommate. dont know why but it plays without cd and can be installed on any computer multiple times. as long as u dont activate the online part (ya right, look a 13 yr old kid from the US made a penis monster) then it looks like you can install as much as you want. my computer, my roommates computer and now my friends computer all from 1 disk and all work without said disk. i see a problem.... for them :p

Ahh but unlike you sir I am only made up of 30% moral outrage and I can deal with being jacked by them because I know that a larger part of my life has being and will continue to be getting jacked by people and corporations. You can rabble rabble rabble all you want on the internet but it won't make one single little bit of difference.

I'm enjoying this game and I foresee myself continuing to enjoy them game while your on your soap box holding the moral high ground. Ohh by the way I don't mean this as a personal attack on you that's certainly not my intention I'm just of the view point that there is to much politics be involved with this when its just meant to be fun.

Can't win, don't try?

That's the spirit!
