An Icelandic fishing captain, known as "the Iceman" for his tough character, grabbed a 300 kg shark with his bare hands as it swam in shallow water towards his crew, a witness said today.

 

The skipper of the trawler "Erik the Red" was on a beach in Kuummiit, east Greenland, watching his crew processing a catch when he saw the shark swimming towards the fish blood and guts — and his men.

 

Captain Sigurdur Petursson, known to locals as "the Iceman", ran into the shallow water and grabbed the shark by its tail. He dragged it off to dry land and killed it with his knife.

 

"He caught it just with his hands. There was a lot of blood in the sea and the shark came in and he thought it was dangerous," Frede Kilime, a hunter and fisherman who watched from the beach, told Reuters by phone from Greenland.

 

Icelandic author and journalist Reynir Traustason, who knows the trawler captain, said the act was typical of the man.

 

"He's called 'the Iceman' because he isn't scared of anything," he said. "I know the people in that part of the world. They are really tough."

300kg my ass, I dont care how much steroids you have, you wont pull a 300kg shark onto land. MAYBE drag it into shallow water IE less then waist height and stab the hell outa it before it bites you or get back into deep water.. But no way would he of got it all the way out on his own.

It's most likely exaggerated but it's actually very entirely possible for a human being WITHOUT steroids to drag and lift 300kg. Powerlifters etc etc. more likely the shark was 200kg, even then, the guy is pretty damn tough.

You could pull and drag a large shark by the tail without fear of being bitten. But I can't think of any sharks that roam those regions that you'd consider dangerous.

Does it say what breed of shark it was? Tiger sharks and great whites easily get over 300kg + but I don't think they roam near Iceland. And if it was a greenland shark or basking shark you'd have to be a complete knob to kill one, especially baskings which are pretty similar to our whale sharks in behaviour.

Ive seen PLENTY of steroid people, ive seen many freak shows, ive seen lots of weight lifting. 300kg is not something you drag for several meters on dry land.

 

In shallow water around waist height its a different story as it wouldnt be dragging on the ground. Go get 100kg put it on a bodyboard and try pull it across your backyard and see how heavy it is. Then think of another 200kg on it.

Uhhh yeah it is. Natural Strongman comps have guys flipping over cars like you saw in that earlier video. That same guy also deadlifted 360kg.

 

Dragging is easier than deadlifting because you are engaging more muscle groups in a simpler movement.

 

This is a pointless argument. Regardless of whether the shark weighed 300kg or not, he still grabbed a shark with his bare hands and dragged it to shore. That takes balls.

It's possible and you are creating a silly argument. It can be done by some people, just because you can't do it doesn't mean no one can.

I can backup Smoke in regards to the feats of superhuman strength under dire circumstances. I had a little interesting fact book when I was a kid and there was a whole section of it devoted to those kind of incidents.

I had a book like that too!

 

My mom gave it to me.
