jus dug up my copy of IL-2 Sturmovik and dusted off my joystick!

 

 

anyone else play any combat flight sims??

nope - not aware of any decent release lately either... I used to play Gunship and A-10 Tank Killer... those were the days

I remember playing some version of Falcon - a LONG way back. Good fun and have the joystick but not the time now :o(

Not played that game for a long time....one of the best combat sims......the only way to get half good at it again is, loooots of hours flying.

No NEW flight sims have been released in awhile.....but the old ones are still good

Nothing compares to Jet Fighter II !!! Well... ok. Maybe Jet Fighter III. Seriously, the most fun I've had with a flight sim. Not a hardcore sim like the Falcon series, but was playable and didn't require hours of reading to get airborne. Brilliant games in my opinion.

 

I've got Il-2 but just hate the way it's made. Brilliant game, and the best online flight sim out there, but the UI is horrendous. There's a new game coming out from that same studio "soon" and I'll be into that in a big way I reckon. But as it is, Il-2 just never grabbed me. Single player is crap, and needs modernising with it's approach, and the UI needs a massive overhaul (native joystick support?). Oh, and it should work out of the box. I had to use a no-cd hack just to bypass the security.

 

Always looking for a fun sim. Unfortunately, the closest thing in recent years is BF2. It's too "arcade" like in just about every way, but still closer to "sim" than the real arcade ones - and you don't need a 400 page manual to learn how to close the canopy before turning in the taxi lights to then get permission to ignite the engines - ala LO:MAC.

 

Love flying - hate realism sim. I'm a gamer, not a pilot.

if your after realism lomac is your thing not much reading for me my friend gave me a summed up manual of all the keys and what they do

Il-2 1946 - is the latest and the best of all of the ww2 flight sims on the market at the moment BY FAR. with over 300 flyable models, and soooo many scenarios not to mention an excellant physics and realism engine...

 

The same devs are working on a new game based on the 1940s 'battle of britain' britain/channel/france arena

Ive played lots of flight sims, but 1946, in terms of ww2 air sims, simply ****s on everything. Not to take away from the genre definers...(ive been playing flight sims since amiga days...), but really...these guys are nuts about their game dev...

 

also there is a couple of il-2 servers up in aus. i think on gamearena. I stopped playing a while back, cos it was just toooo hardcore...
