It'd be good to have ya back in game perhaps to try out 0.8 to see if you can get back into it. For all the complaints everyone has, it's still the most fun game out there imo, although the infuriation factor is still there when things fall to pieces

I heard he's a COD4 fan...

I don't play anymore because squad leading (and the game in general) has become far too tedious with all the changes in the latest versions. The game became 10% fun and 90% frustration, so I stopped playing.

 

As for CoD4, couldn't stand that. Far too fast and spammy. TF2 is currently sitting just right for me.

Mmm yeah you shouldn't have to 'force' fun, if you no longer enjoy the mod then it was certainly the right move to break away from it. I don't know about others but I still have heaps of fun, although I know where you're coming from with the frustration aspect... but for me the one great round that I have per night with an awesome squad makes up for the rest of the 3-5 rounds I have to play where everything is like trying to be a seamstress in the dark

If you get it quota free, I hope you'll give it another shot with 0.8, at least to see what the new levels are like

 

And the punkbuster issues are generally quite easy to deal with, as long as someone can send you the unmodified version(s) of the files that it's whining about.

 

You should at least have a go of the new albasrah when it gets working, it's a far cry from the old days where we had to sit @ the vehicle checkpoint worrying about the stupid insurgents constantly taking it and bleeding out our tickets. Those were fun days but taking away SL, APC & truck spawning were by far the best things they've done for the mod since 0.4 IMO.

 

But yeah, ignore me for now, since I'm on here pleading with you because I am avoiding doing my last chapter of study for my test tomorrow. I also miss the photoshop diaries and wanted to make my own, but due to the Fraps + USB headset I couldn't carry on the tradition, not that I'd have been able to compare in any case. Still... whenever I play OGT I think back to your diaries, brings a tear to the eye (lol).

 

If you don't enjoy it, I wish you all the best with your TF2 and underground glitchers I was never a big TF fan except for the spy which was heaps of fun. And might I say, not having played TF2 but having seen videos, it seems odd to criticize COD4 of spamminess whilst enjoying TF2

The spamminess in CoD4 is the kind of corner-camping stuff you get in Counter-Strike, where you either get grenades flying at you from nowhere or you're instantly headshotted from some obscurely hidden dude in a building. The combat in TF2 is spammy, yes, but everyone is out in the open and in direct contant with their enemy. Everyone's brightly coloured and the weapons are over the top and ridiculous, making things a whole lot more fun.

 

For the record I play Spy, so even then the spamming hardly affects me.

I didn't want to get around Jims locking thread but I thought I had a legitimate comment to make on the no fog/distant APC thing.

 

I have in the past been gunning in an APC and had my SL put an attack marker where he wants me to shoot beyond my view distance. He then adjusted my fire (up a bit, left a bit, etc) till I was shooting where he wanted and took out a number of peeps doing so (Map was Seven Gates). It is possible the same was happening to you Aestabjoo. Feel free to lock/remove this if you don't think this is a valid comment on the No Fog hax thread.

Are you sure he wasn't just using peripheral vision? You have a good 200-300m more vision at the side of the screen than you do in the middle, as awkward as it is.

BTW that new rule for the campaign, US Carrier assets NOT TO ENGAGE LAND came from the training session with wolfy when I was nailing assets from the Essex Guns, and the missiles travel in a perfectly straight line. It was cool to see but probz best it not be used in the campaign with the whole carrier off limits thing.

 

Anyway I think people really need to have a good think about taking advantage of things in this mod, if they do it or not is ok, but this is after-all a REALITY MOD and people like me love it because it is everything vanilla isnt. There is no reason to cheat or glitch.

 

If you go in an APC though, sometimes you can see little white sillhouettes of things way out in the distance as the view distance is longer than the fog itself. I never do it because its just plain boring and some dude always takes it upon himself to come and blow u up form behind.
