random idea for a mod

hey guys

just had an idea for a mod. this is only an idea as i have no programming skills what so ever but comments are welcomed.

anyways my idea

i was thinking maybe bf2 could have a credit/res system that would allow for purchasing of only vehicles/aircraft/assets and not personal weapons like guns and upgrades. of course these would be purchased by the commander for the army and would allow him/her to shape the army they way he/she see fit. this would mean that each game would become more dynamic allow commanders to adapt to each situation differently.

the credit/res system

hasnt been too much thought into this but i was thinking of modeling it after the warhammer game were you get a steady supply of credits/res for hold certian points but in our case these would be flags.

downside

the first downside i can see is that all the power is with the commander. so if we have one just messing about and being just a pain than the team would lose.

second one would be that the team whos getting there asses kicked, and therefore low on flags, would continue getting there asses kicked as they would have not enough credits comming in to counter the opposing force.

so that is my idea. its a very vage idea but its an idea. any thoughts on this would be welcomed.

I like your idea, but I'd rather see it implemented as a separate game mode, especially due to the logistics of having a competent commander. In terms of Python, I think it is relatively easy to do, especially since they have the coding basis of the QM system. From a programming perspective it seems like it would be along similar lines, with the obvious additions of counting registars and whatnot.

I actually quite like it. I have like 0 time, but neftaly would be an excellent candidate to code something like this up, as he has access to their python scripts and would appear to be an absolute programming genius, creating the PHPQM system in like 2 days... utterly amazing.

If you could liase with him (if he agrees of course), I'd be happy to open up my server to let everyone test the system.

It's a cool idea :D Something that I'd really like to see included as a new game mode. It would be almost like an RTS! Imagine they made the commander RTS based, so there was fog of war in his satellite view, and he was far more of a C&C type commnander, rather than the run-around-on-the-ground type, that it is currently. That'd be sweet :)

QFT: Your computer is smart man. It tells you not to play the second worst PR map [burning Sands] (first is Wanda Shan).

QFT: if you dont get pissed off when you lose you dont care enough

this sounds really good, i was playing world in conflict and there points systems works on a time basis so after a certain time irrespective of flags held you gain points(enough to survive with), and everytime someone takes out an enemy you get some more points and if you hold a flag zone your points accumulation speed increases, and the more flags you hold the faster they increase, but to make it fair you would have to have a wait time for things to spawn so you wouldnt have an instant army,

i think this idea would work great, especially if you could somehow included bots to work with commander so if there is an almost empty server bots would take place of players and you only need to command .

you could also make it that assets like bunkers and such would cost points but whehn you put down bunkers and stuff you units strenghs are increased,??

any way sorry to add to your idea these are just my thoughts

you could work in tickets that went up not down and the round only ended when the main base flag is taken but only can be taken when there are no others

also i think you should start from Vbf2 for beta testing

idiots are hardcoded

Something to this effect was created for Battlefield 1942 it was called Empires, some of you might have heard of it as its still in development's for Half Life 2. The mod team was forced to leave the Battlefield series behind because of surprise surprise engine limitations.

I played it a few times but never saw a server hosted in Australia and never played with more then 4 people. I have yet to even try the Half Life 2 version.

yeah it sounds exactly like empires for hl2 except i doubt u'd be able to do as much with the bf2 engine. empires is great anyway. when v2 came out the australian servers were full every night for a few months, but its died down now and they're only really active on the weekend. imo it would be cool if we could do it on the bf2 engine as empires is kinda arcadey so having realistic vehicles etc would be mad.

also what your suggesting sounds sorta like what they've done in crysis multiplayer, where you have to capture facilities like vehicle factories and airbases and buy vehicles.

I think the credit system could work in a way that you get credits for capping an enemy flag and then the enemy gets extra if they are able to cap it back. So you don't want to let the other team get a roll on, but a good counter attack would allow you to bring in reinforcements, so to speak.

somthing like a RTS was wht i was thinking. it would be a cross from natural selection/bf2/warhammer. we'll most likly need a build time for each vehicle or if you want a delivery time.

as for the credit system i would like it to stay globle for the team to keep teamwork aspect of the game and also to not include kills as easy money.

the flag system would work like NS and warhammer where u would have to capture and hold curtain point (flags in bf2) for a steady income. we can give counter attack bonus were for each flag u cap you get said amount of credit.

the commander in to a RTS would be neat and reminds me of natural selection

i think it should work like in world in conflict

each player has points they can use to call in forces. as time goes by, you generate points. when you buy a unit, it takes points out of your bank. while that unt is alive, you cannot generate its points back. owever, when it dies, you get a small percentage of its value back and the rest regenrates over time. the more points you have generated and invested in units, the slower you generate them. however there is a cap to the maximum number of points you can have total (6000).

e.g.

you have generated 1400 points, and have a max of 6000 points. you buy a tank worth 1200 points. this number of points is taken from you bank of points (1400 - 1200 = 200). points would continue to generate, up to 4800 (6000 - 1200). as it nears 4800, the rate slows down, and if it hits 4800, it stops. if you tank dies, you might get 200 points instantly, and the rest would start generating again.

this means that you have a maximum imposed instantly, and stops one team from dominating too much, whlile still giving advantage to the team that preserves its forces and kills the enemys

if you read all that, congratulations. if you skipped to the end, there is no summary here, read the whole thing or disregard it completely

sounds prety good piro .... just a thought but could the tickets not be used as currency ?

If teams were to start with higher ticket numbers and to requisition a vehicle or asset consumed those tickets . would that not create a fine line between an over supplied army and a dead one .

so in effect if the opposing side bought 5 tanks at 50 tickets each , then sent them on a suicide mission only to be lost to mines lat and c4 .

they are then down 250 tickets regardless of how many flags they have controll of .

downside

the first downside i can see is that all the power is with the commander. so if we have one just messing about and being just a pain than the team would lose.

second one would be that the team whos getting there asses kicked, and therefore low on flags, would continue getting there asses kicked as they would have not enough credits comming in to counter the opposing force.

well maybe to counter the crappy Commander situation.. SL's are allowed to request things with out the need of a Commander!

so small assest such as light transports (cars, trucks) and maybe the placing of defensive objects such as mounted guns, sandbags razorwire and tank traps etc can be placed by SL without buildorders or the like sent to the Commander!

the Commander should be on hand to request Tanks, Planes, Choppers etc... all the heavy stuff not always available in a battle! but atleast some assets should be available at the start of the game and not respawn untill enough credits have been obtained!

but otherwise i think its an awesome idea!
