Posted February 9, 200817 yr well looking through the good ol site you tube i discovered this is it just me or does this look like PR, the apc has the same layout, map looks huge but there is still the commander zoom, who knows what this mod is but I now no that its possible and Imagin Bing Ming or w/e its called with this on, APC's would no longer become worthless they would become dangerous again. http://img5.imageshack.us/img5/2111/shotgunreal.pnghttp://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/opagamahons.jpghttp://www.bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/lol.bmp Love you long time gunner <3 I like to wait till im nearly done, then pull out and yell "COVERING FIRE!!!" Ahhh. Im so glad I have a GF and she doesnt read these forums...
February 9, 200817 yr Certainly is PR. Made by one of the devs as a test/proof of concept. Seriously doubt anything like that would make it into a release, since you cannot have 100% accurate thermal images, with accurate heat effects etc, in the BF2 engine. What you see there is basically a shader where certain things are coloured like this, other things are coloured like this, and yeah. Hard to explain, but what you see there is a pretty poor version of thermal imaging. Though we do have a new shader coder, so you might see new things in that regard, who knows . http://www.ancientdev.com/images/devsig.png
February 9, 200817 yr That would surely mean more night maps Hmm interesting, good to see people still pushing the game limits http://matt.itsthemadhouse.com/na/sigs/na-sig-gruanch5.png http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/bulletmagnet.bmp http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/gren.bmp http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/ocrs.bmp http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/opagamaserv.jpg

March 2, 200817 yr I think something has to be done to give the attack choppers some extra view range. By the time you find and line up a tank you are normally so close that it has already shot you out of the air.
March 2, 200817 yr I think something has to be done to give the attack choppers some extra view range. By the time you find and line up a tank you are normally so close that it has already shot you out of the air. I agree, but not in the sense of view range. On anything with statics that would mean that only pilots with supercomputers could have any chance of flying effectively. Now I don't claim to have any knowledge of rangefinders and laser targeting, but IMHO I think that the lasers would be able to lock on >600m away, which I think is the current limit. Due to the limit of the draw distance, I think the choppers can be balanced by adding far superior laser designation, to the order of 1.5-2km, with a slightly longer lock time (Actually that might be waaaaay too much, I am just throwing numbers around). What this would achieve, is that choppers that attempt to operate without the coordination of ground troops would be at a massive disadvantage, but could certainly still retain superiority if the pilot is good at knowing when to hover and when to bug out. The pilots that coordinate with ground troops, however, would be able to harness the true power of these beasts, long range Air-to-ground capabilities. The enemies die before they even know what hit them. As far as thermal imaging goes... I think it's a cool idea, but from what I've read on the PR forums, it wouldn't work particularly well, due to the messing with shaders and whatnot. http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee94/psyrus_uraya/awards-1.png QFT: Your computer is smart man. March 2, 200817 yr Author The Thermal imaging i think is just colouring, if your in a tank or not it will always show up under thermal, because the bf2 engine is GEHY. The THermal Imaging would always be there even if the vehicle just spawned, if you could see everything using thermal imaging the game would become VERY difficult for anyone on the ground http://img5.imageshack.us/img5/2111/shotgunreal.pnghttp://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/opagamahons.jpghttp://www.bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/lol.bmp Love you long time gunner <3 I like to wait till im nearly done, then pull out and yell "COVERING FIRE!!!" March 3, 200817 yr I'm not talking about increasing the view distance of the whole game. I'm thinking we give the attack choppers missile system a 2x zoom function at least. The tanks get massive zoom but the choppers get left out in the cold in comparison. Because of this the tanks actually have an advantage at shooting down choppers at range as they can zoom in to 10x and blast them out of the sky. While the chopper gunner is trying to line up that tiny speck on the horizon with his 1x vision. The chain gun has a zoom function why not the missile system? Thermal signatures for all ground vehicles would also be a great help. Not infantry though that would be overkill. Edited March 3, 200817 yr by mrchickenfool

The tanks get massive zoom but the choppers get left out in the cold in comparison. Really? I found the choppers' zoomed mode to be huge... equivalent to that of the tank! When the gunner is zoomed, the slightest path deviation of the pilot will completely disorientate the gunner (since he's so zoomed in). You're probably right though... but as far as I remember, the only impediment to my rain of death upon enemy tanks has been: - Draw distance - Laser has to be too close, thus I can't lock on until he shoots me down. As for the thermal imaging, shotgun is right; It would be awesome if we had an engine that could support it... but BF2 = the poo... I'm amazed that the PR boys have got this far with it! http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee94/psyrus_uraya/awards-1.png QFT: Your computer is smart man. March 3, 200817 yr The chain gun has a zoom the missile system does not. If you're talking about the pilot's Hydra missiles, then you are correct. If you are talking about the laser guided/targeting missiles, you are sadly mistaken. Give me a minute to put pictures up Cannon Unzoomed: http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee94/psyrus_uraya/cannon-unzoomed.png Cannon Zoomed: http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee94/psyrus_uraya/cannon-zoomed.png Hellfires Unzoomed: http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee94/psyrus_uraya/hellfire-unzoomed.png Hellfires zoomed: http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee94/psyrus_uraya/hellfire-zoomed.png Edited March 3, 200817 yr by Husker http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee94/psyrus_uraya/awards-1.png QFT: Your computer is smart man. March 3, 200817 yr Sex on wheels Psyrus. I never knew that you could do that. Is it the same button as the cannon zoom? I just had a quick look at the manual again here is what is says about the helicopter zoom. This is the complete paragraph BTW: Gunners in attack helicopters can zoom their weapons camera by pressing the cycle camera key (default: C) when using the cannon Stoopid manual only giving me half truths. Man I am sooo whoring up the chopper now lol. Thanks Psyrus
March 3, 200817 yr Glad I could help, Wolf. It is indeed the same key ("c") to zoom in. It won't be too much of a help to you though, until they implement turret stabalization on the choppers, because as I said, the slightest correction wrecks havok with your ability to hit targets. If you want me to show you what I mean, PM me and I'll go over what I mean with you in my server. http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee94/psyrus_uraya/awards-1.png QFT: Your computer is smart man. March 3, 200817 yr Yeah I know what you mean. If your pilot makes the slightest move it throws your aim off big time. Especially when zoomed. I read that one of the DEVs is close to finishing coding some sort of turret stabilisation for the tanks and APCs so that you can actually fire on the move as is possible in real life. Maybe it could be translated into the chopper as well.
March 3, 200817 yr http://youtube.com/watch?v=CM-jS97Xkb4 - Tank turret stabalisation. He also did some for the choppers, but he could only constrain the X axis movement, not Y at this point, so while it's much better, it is far from perfect. http://youtube.com/watch?v=lU2RNmZBgHE (From about 1 minute) http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee94/psyrus_uraya/awards-1.png QFT: Your computer is smart man.
