It actually seems to be a bit of a trend, Ive seen at least half a dozen similar examples over the last 6 months or so.

Some people get too comfortable with their weapons IMO.

lol Thats funny.

Dangerous tho as kids might think its a toy.

Id probably stick a smiley face on my rifle when I get it

Fear is another word for weakness.

Ha! We started the trend back in the early 1990's by airbrushing our 1911's - the idea being to make the firearm less "intimidating" and more sports-equipment like.

Still, Madhouse your pic takes the cake for sheer WTF? factor.

Personally I ran a Chrome and Purple STI .40 cal as my primary competition gun and it certainly deflected some of the "scary scary gun" comments from the non-shooters.

Painting rifles in the US is now almost a national obsession. Camoflauge is obviously one whole category but you'd be stunned at what is out there. Pink M4/AR-15's and Rem 870 shotguns with matching Glocks are hugely popular. I've seen guys who match their Glocks to their cars!

Google "duracoat" or "Krylon" gun finish to see a staggering array of schemes!

But why would you want to take a mean arse looking gun and make it look like that?

Why 'soften' the look Bammo?

There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

'cause when your chosen sport and lifelong passion attracts the sort of focused hating that shooting gets you do what you can to make it more appealing to a wider audience. The sport (IPSC) long ago banned the wearing of camouflage and the use of military style gear as well as the use of targets that were humanoid shaped. Members complained then that this was just "give an inch, take a mile" mentality from the sport's management but 12 months later came the Monash shootings and the news that Howard had specifically instructed his policy people to ban any guns used that shot at human type targets.

Sometimes a little pro-active approach to stuff like this can save your bacon!

Besides....purple looked cool!

I had to sell that STI when my sponsorship deal with H&K came through. The I started wearing black and shooting a black scary pistol (H&K USP). Still got heaps of the HK gear - always good for a laugh when you wear it to the mall-ninja conventions!

Hate to break it to you Bammo, but guns were designed and invented to kill people firstly, and animals and targets second. There is no escaping the fact that you turn a sport into a simulated killing session.

You will never escape people not liking guns, nor will you ever make them more happy or comfortable around someone who treats a weapon as a toy and dolls it up.

In fact I would presume it would actually make more people squeam under their breath knowing that someone has actually lost all sense and reason of what they are actually doing with a weapon.

You know what they say about wolves in sheep's clothing don't you?

By all means paint and chrome away like its a car tyre, but have fun picking up the pieces when a kid picks up your gun because it looks like a toy...

Gun safety only goes so far, and kids always have a knack of going further.

You're all wrong, and I am always right, and the sooner you accept it, the happier you will be. That is all!

Va Fan Culo

sounds like a rant about street races

becuase they can kill too just not as well as guns

-.-

That's why anyone with a proper sense of firearm safety would keep the firearm locked inside of a safe and the ammunition someplace else.

Your kid would be more likely to have an accident with a steak knife than he would with a firearm providing you are a responsible owner.

yeaaa booooy.

Yeah Kindros, I kinda know that mate - I've been shooting competitively for over 20 years, captained Australia internationally and teach firearms safety part time. I own more safes and security systems than I do firearms!

...and I own a LOT of firearms :)

I've also heard all the arguments about "never giving an inch" and the other stuff and what can I say? Our sport is still alive and growing and those others aren't.

Thank <insert preferred deity here> we aren't in America is all I can say.

Ex army rifles? Yep, .303's of course! I used to have an AR-15 HBAR (semi auto M16) but sadly that got turned into scrap metal in '96 :(

Sniper rifles are my current thing but I have long arms ranging from 22cal through to 45-70 and when I am competing I usually have a a couple of 9mm's but they are normally owned by my sponsor as I change them out pretty regularly.

Weird really, most of my shooting is either with pistols or sniper type rifles but in-game I almost never use these two weapons!

http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/armouredservice.bmp

Thats cause the pistol is Lame'O against an automatic rifle...

Bammo competative pistol/rifle marksmanship sport is a good thing takes a lot of skill.. And as they say Guns Don't Kill People I do hahaha...
