Honestly I think I give PR a year before it dies or they switch engines, unless of course EA loosens their hole and hands out the source code which is extremely unlikely. So this poll is to see what engine you see PR most likely moving to.

There's been talk circulating the PR community for some time about moving engines. Most likely because the Devs feel far too constricted without the source code. Primarily the talk has been about moving to Crysis or Far Scape engine (don't know that one).

Edit: I voted Cryengine 2 (crysis). After playing it it's quite suitable and the cryengine has always been easily modified.

Armed Assault 2 would be awesome, but am yet to see what that engine can actually do.

If its pretty customisable it would be awesome as its already (ARMA is anyway) "realistic" in a sense.

Crysis...meh. If they want to make it an arcade game then sure...

OFP/ArmA is as you know very moddable , but not in the gamecode sense. Then again, realism is already there as a base.

Crysis itself may be unrealistic, but the engine itself is very suitable for PR, not to mention the devs would have more access than BF2. After all BF2 was arcadey before the PR devs got their hands around it's neck wasn't it :p ?

EDIT: if you're going to vote please post as well. It's nice to know who's voting for what and why.

1 vote from me for Arma 2. Hope we arnt dissapointed in the engine. Tho knowing all the bugs in Arma I wont be holding my breath. Would be wicked tho.
PR using the Cryengine would be awesome. And by awesome I mean totally sweet.

Here is a list of particularly awesome things:

dogs

sniping

very spicy chilli

cat claws on people (but still cool on cats)

pretty sure the devs already know where they are going after they finish with the BF2 engine.

They are not likely to tell us though.

not sure that they will move to an engine that is already based on realism as part of the challenge was to bring as much realism to a game that had very little.

id say the crytech engine or ut3

http://www.madhouseau.com/misc/sigs/darthsig.jpg

Id have to say cry 2 simply because its 'the latest and greatest' and will give them a good base to build off of.

That said, by the time they get done with PR on the bf2 engine, there will definately be newer and possibly better suited engines to work with.

They have repeatedly stated they are not bailing out to move onto another engine anytime soon.

I dont see BF3 coming along for at least 18 mths if EA decide to go back to these styles of games, If you look at what EA does in the next 6-12 mths you will see they are going to try and emulate the Wii' popularity with fun style playable family games *EA have lost out with lame replications of the same old titles of sports ect and know they need a new direction or they will collapse in the gaming market, I'd be suprised if we see BF3 any time soon.

Now that EA own dice BF2 is dead BF2142 is dead and BF3 well EA can't make an engine to save their ass they buy other peoples skills, The Battlefield is empty.

i sad cry engine but i don't know enough about it to really have an educated guess.

i wiil be happy aslong as pr stays around even if it is no longer part of bf2,

but if there was a bf3 which would be bf2142?? wouldnt they just use that engine or is it the same as bf2??

So as long as they can get a squad inteface as user friendly as BF2's, then I'll be happy.

It's not EA making BF3, EA only produces it, just like all the previous BFs. And from what I know it's already been in making since about BF2142's release. I reckon they release BF: bad company Q1 2008 and BF3 Q2 2008.

I'm not sure on the licensing costs of the Cryengine2, but I'm pretty sure it would run into the hundreds of thousands... I wonder if they'd call up a donation pool to buy the rights, or have to sell out to a publisher to get the engine (with source code)... Interesting either way.

If they did get full access to the Cryengine, imagine what an amazing game they would make... it boggles my mind... absolutely boggles..

Nope, he means the new Dunia engine:

Edit:

Here's a video to show it off... pretty sweet stuff, but I don't know if it would handle flight dynamics or >=64player multiplay

arma engine makes for staggered gameplay. its not fluid feeling to move your 'guy' around. I think the thing that is awesome about pr is that it has the ease of movement that arcadey bf2 has but it adds more teamwork into the gameplay. So I think cryengine would be a nice move for pr.

don't particularly care to be honest... long as the features currently available (although would love a return of the subs and destroyers ala BF1942).

The reason I think they will move to whatever engine is used for BF3 is for the squads etc. It supports many players and the series will be around for awhile and so has the many mods that come along with the BF series.

If they can create squads in the other engines then they may go elsewhere but I think the squad system is well liked and here to stay in military games.

??? Dunno if you're being sarcastic or not... but in case you're ignorant:

Was more of a generic response I use when anyone backs themselves up with a wikipedia web page as evidence. However in this case your right I didn't know that Far Cry used the Dunia engine, Ice told me earlier that night it was using Cry 2 and I took his word for it. Either way I don't care where PR goes as long as its a little prettier, can still use VOIP and there is some suit of squad based game system.
