I have a 4ft 200 litre tropical freshwater setup, fish I have are as listed

 

2 Bumble bee Goby's

5 White cloud

5 Bleeding hearts

5 Neons 5 Black neons

1 Coryador

2 Siamese algae eaters

1 Red Rainbow

2 Rainbow Parkinsons (male is my prize fish)

2 Rainbow Dubolais

2 Rainbow Boesmanis

Yeah mine isn't so picture perfect at the moment I run it too look like a small SE QLD stream but it currently only has 2 sooty grunters in it and its still a little cold for em so there not super active. Its currently on the back burner while I try to save for a new PC, fix my car so I can buy a new Proton Satria when thats all done I plan on making a large terrarium with penny turtle, and fish and probably frogs to boot.

Sooty Grunters grow quite large what size is the tank?

Tanks around 4ft and I know sootys get big I actually sport fish for em, but there not putting on allot of weight cause I keep there diet low I don't like big fish. Its why I don't have red devils or anything like that, I did have Bass and Barra and I've always wanted to make a semi salt tank with Bream and Bass.

When it comes to tanks, you name it and Ive probably kept it and quiet possibly bred it at some stage.

 

Been pulling down our tanks over the last 18 months, cut back from 32 running tanks. Currently have only 5 tanks running, but closing down 2 more this weekend, including my 6 foot marine fish only tank.

Will be setting up a few more smaller ones to keep me happy over the next couple months.

 

Currently I have a 14inch cube nano marine/saltwater reef tank. Making some changes to it so Its a little bare at the moment.

Our 6 footer has housed our 2 foot snowflake eel, 1 foot Wedgetail Trigger and 10inch Gold Rim Lipstick Tang. This tank is being pulled down this weekend and I have plans to change out our 4 footer which houses our turtle into the 6 footer and add in a few simple malawi cichlids - electric yellows, electric blues, etc. Ill add pics when I get working on it.

Our Mudskipper tank is being pulled down this weekend as the last mudskipper passed on this week.

Hey, i have a 3 foot Saltwater tank

Not too many fish, One had a rock fall on him the other got sucked into filter and another was stung by my corals, leaving only one lonely clown.

Cool, yeah my missus wants to go salt water cause the fish are more colourful but I dont like the cost hahaha and I have to clean the buggers.

 

Coral sure does look sweet though.

Its alot of ongoing effort and yeah the initial set up cost is restrictive to do it properly.

 

From the bottom.

I drilled two holes, fitted 2 bulkheads and flow is generated from a 1500l/ph canister filter and a 1000l/ph external inline pump.

Inside the canister is more liverock, a submersed light for growing macro algae (to soak up excess nutrients), a 50w heater, activated carbon and Ive recently added a phosphate removal material as well.

The bottom fittings on the picture above were removed and replaced with proper fitting, fuller flowing compression joints.

The tank sits on a modified bedside table, with the canister and pump hidden inside it.

I did but I ate all the fish.

yeah the red clump grows way to fast cut it twice a week,

morphs i grow and sell back to the shop, i can grow twenty in a month(only red though)

my only problem is i have some small brown tube anemone's that multiply like crazy about 20-30 a month i have to remove them with siphon and tweezers..

jeeze there annoying.

not bad for only trickle filter power head and NO PROTEIN SKIMMER,

goto love geo liquid oh and a tank water top up every couple of days and 30% water change every 6 months

Main reason my tank has being neglected was because of the council giving me hassle because of the water restrictions. :blowup:

yeah i just put a 200 litre tank in my back yard its pretty small so it doesnt take up much space and just the right amount for fish tank, also its has no nitrates no ammonium, no trace elements and no chlorine.

and a 200 litre tank should only cost about 60 bucks

Vis did you tell them you have a fish tank?

Surely youd get an exeption for a fish tank, I know over here you can apply for exemptions if you have a pool cause they basically go on water usage for the fine system.

Nope there are no exemption for private fish tank owners or my POS pool, in the end it was a leaking toilet that was the issue but they have once again knocked the water restrictions up and forest is right if I want to take seriously again I need a rain water tank.

yes we, Well my wife does all the work, have got 7 tanks, and 3 ponds. but now we only have 4 tanks going, 3foot and smaller in size, plus the ponds. we just get fish out of the creeks, and try to get the tanks looking like the bottom of the creek. We also have ALOT of Red Claw witch look cool as they chatch and eat the fish in the tanks. the bigest one is around 170mm long. the dams up here are full of them,I have caught ones up to 250mm long but they taste to good to put in a tank. lol.

My dad is doing some engineering work for AQWA which is probaly the largest aquarium in WA (http://www.aqwa.com.au/main.asp). Apparently the current manager used to be a frogman in the Israeli Navy. I also heard that his young daughter has taken a similar path in the military... :sweat:

Lol, no. They are highly trained divers who do things such as EOD, demolitions are amphibious assault. The US Navy SEAL's are frogmen for example.

I've been trying to get plants growing in my 80Ltr tank to help upkeep the healthy environment,

but every plant i put in goes all mooshy and dies withing a week.

 

I use water conditioner but am i supposed to use anything else?

It's really getting me down, i've had 3 attempts so far with no luck.

Oh man, I have been wanting to get into Fishkeeping. Anyone got any tips for a nice looking start up?

how much light is your tank getting Ablack77 ?

the only real time our (the wife and me) plants die like you describe is when they do not get bright light for 8hours a day or more.
