I just got Punkbuster kicked for an:

"MD5 Tool Mismatch BF2.exe Len =2048"

 

Huh? I have never had a PB problem before and have been playing PR for months now. This was on the new GSA server (my first time on).

 

Any ideas?

Apparently the GSA server will not allow you to have ANY altered files in your BF2 files (excluding mods or so I would assume) so if your running any bf2 edit's you might find your fault is with that. For example some people have changed there bf2.exe launch file because of chug/lag issues etc basically any of those little tweaks or name changes.

Punkbuster is just clunky sometimes. It does some strange things - I am sure uberadmin Uncle_Darth has an evil plan to fix any server problems which may arise.

 

I have had punkbuster kick me to hog the bandwidth to download a new version of itself. Several times, until I just found the download manually/externally.

 

The problem you have does sound like a file authenticity-check one... requiring reinstalls... if backups are unavailable

This is a MD5 mismatch error. Thanks to EA and their great coding, they manage to f*@k up their own software.

 

Most common cause is if you have used the EA downloader to update or install an addon.

 

It copies the new files over but sometimes keeps older ones.... therefore a mismatch.

 

only way to fix it that i know of is a re-install, remove ALL files in bf2 directory and my docs bf2 directory and re-install. use full patches and no downloaders.

 

it sucks but thats the best we can do.

The only thing different for me was playing on the GSA server for the first time. My BF2 install is squeaky clean except on advice I had renamed the bf2.exe file - I have now named it back to see if this helps but with the GSA server down I can't test it anyway!

renaming the bf2.exe will definitely get you kicked.

ive cleared the bf2 directry and all my docs,but the damn install disc won't load fully so i gotta take down to video ezy and clean the barst@rd

Yep if you renamed your BF2.exe you'll have to change it back if your getting the MD5 bf2.exe kick. The thing is that the MD5 kick is controlled by the server and only takes effect if the server wants it too, so it should be easy to turn off as this is the only server I've every had it happen on.

Sorry i missed this, here goes.

GSA are PunksBusted members. This means we share over 5000bans now, with more than 600 other server admins.

 

Our PB and PSB files are up to date, but you will find us slightly more fussy, than a vanilla server.

 

The biggest issue with MD5 Mismatch, is actually the EA Patcher. Look in your My Docs/BF2 folder sometime at the patch log, and shudder at all the files it did not patch, or simply did not find.

 

A quick fix, is to rerun the 1.41 COMPLETE patch, and see if you still get the same mismatch error. Other than that, it is as Darth sez, try a complete reinstall. Basically you have a file in youe install dated older than the current files, so of course you get a Mismatch error.

 

Theres nothing can be done about this, its another bodge job from EA.

 

I am however, happy to send the particular file that is mismatched to anyone who needs it, from my own installation, Darth knows how to contact me about this.

so i dont stay on long enough to see whether i've sorted the mismatch prob...

got the same problem today, uninstll bf2, uninstall prm, install bf2, install pr0.5, install 1.4, install 1.41 works.
