For those of you who troll the GSA forums this post might seem a little similar to something kicking around over there. Anyway the reason I ask is well cause I'm curious we always talk about our PC's Epeen rating but hardly ever mention our Meece's or Keyboards* so I pose the question what do you use ? If your like me there's nothing more likely to get your meeces hated to pieces* then battery's going flat in the middle of a important game. This is the particular model I use - Logitech MX 518 Gaming Mouse a reasonably priced mice with a good DPI and 8 buttons for use in my First Person Shooters and Internet/explorer navigation. As for my keyboard well I use a Logitech Media Elite I really don't use all the fancy buttons that much, OK I don't use them at all but I do love the set up of the delete, home, end & etc keys and the general size of it all. Simply put its a keyboard that when you go to press the button you know dam well its the one you bloody want. Anyway that's my little desktop set up so how about the rest of you fellas what do you run ?

 

1* - Yes I know so many of you use G15's* I just can't justify paying the $100+ dollars they ask for them around my way.

2* - This may be to some a somewhat obscure reference to a old Hanna-Barbera cartoon.

3* - Also there seems to be 2 types of G15's kicking about and I don't really see the difference.

I brought the Logitech MX5000 bluetooth wireless combo comes with a MX5000 Laser mouse...

 

BIG mistake as sometimes I'll be running along and oops I cant move (no connectivity) It's worse with the software that comes with it (uninstalled)

Bluetooth works when it feels like it

Mouse works fine..

 

I recently purchased a RaZeR Diamondback 3G talk about light its sensitive as if I tap my foot too much my sight bounces up and down..

 

I want to get either a Microsoft reclusa keyboard or the new Razer keyboard still undecided...

Just a quick bit of info, every light on my computer system is blue and I am quite proud of that fact. The monitor, case, speakers, you name it all nice shiny blue lights.

 

I have:

 

Keyboard - Logitech G11: possibly the 'other' G15, pretty much a G15 but without the LCD display, I don't really use the G (programmable) buttons, it just looks nice and sexy and it has backlit keys so I can game in the dark, oh and it glows blue.

 

Mouse - Razer Copperhead: super DPI, 7 buttons, super sensitive, massive customization options, etc, etc, completely over kill for a mouse, but it glows blue damnit!

 

Edit: I hate wireless keyboards and mice, IMHO they are useless on a desktop anyway cords don't get in the way on a desk and cordless stuff just wastes batteries and has connectivity problems.

I also use the Logitech MX 518 Gaming Mouse and have the 2 side buttons mapped to prone and crouch. Keyboard wise I use Logitech Media or some form. I still hit the wrong key at the worst of times, more to do with the grey matter upstairs than the keyboard though!

Anyway here we go again here is what I mean by different G15's, as you can see there is clearly a difference between the two models. The top keyboard in the images is the new smaller, prettier & more tactically sound of the two and did I mention has a pretty orange glow. Although it has its draw backs given it now only has 6 programmable keys on the left hand side as opposed to its predecessors 18. Hardly a issue for your general FPS player like myself but I'm sure that will make a few WOW geeks cry bitter tears which of course always gets my approval.

Also in my travels to find out some more about the G15's I found this little review which I fell I need to share with you all JUST for a laugh.

While there are several things a multimedia keyboard can offer the average user, for gaming, it stinks. All these things like enhanced F-keys and the Windows key are just ticking time bombs for minimizing your game. On the G15, you don't need to remember pushing the F-Lock key before entering a game, there isn't any. There are no Sleep, Log Off, or Shutdown keys for the person you just pwned in-game to retaliate with. As for the Windows and right-click key, they can now be disabled via a switch for gamers with clumsy fingers. Behold, on the right you can see the keyboard of a well-known SoCal gamer, and the one-switch alternative.

This made me laugh for a number of reasons the least being that I myself have done this to some of my older 'windows' keyboards in the past to give me that must needed edge. Ok it actually had more to do with the fact I had broken one of said keyboards because of the BS windows key anyway I laughed it was good. I had a G15 until beer was spilt on it. Now I have some 1980's compaq keyboard.

 

And a Razer Copperhead.

I have a G15 and a MX518.

I have a Logitech MX5XX something mouse and a Wolf Claw 'Devour' keypad that I got for a birthday. Doesn't help me kill stuff better IMO, but sure helps fight off RSI !

 

I spam teamchat with my other keyboard, a $30 Logitech media(?).

because I got to drunk one night and chucked on it and it still work

I'm even more happy that I bought one now, I'm just waiting for beer to get spilt in mine as I think it's an inevitability.

 

I have some Microsoft gaming mouse, it's really good but I wish I had a Logitech as I prefer them. The reson I do not have one is that the girlfriend was in the shop with me when I was purchasing my PC and was not happy with how much I was spending. The price kept going up on what we had agreed to and I still got my way but when she saw the cost of the mouse she nearly stabbed me. Annoying thing is the Logitech G5 was only 20 Euro more so I was annoyed but hey I can't win all my battles.

 

I will get one later on but the Microsoft one is fantastic and isn't broken so until I get a new PC and give my current rig to the better half I can't justify to myself getten a new mouse.

No I just woke up in the morning and looked over and almost shat my self as I saw a pile of chuck on the number pad, don't remember doing it and my mates got a Microsoft mouse too bad it refuses to work in windows but works fine in Linux.

That's a pretty interesting looking game pad it reminds me of the one I know Uncle_Darth uses the Zboard Fang game pad. Although his choice of game pad apparently is based more on the fact that it needed to be friendly to the left handed gamers. I'm waiting to see if anyone else uses any of the the Zboard Product Range or anything else a little more out of the norm.

I find it pretty good - the larger WASD buttons are great for comfort. Looks impressive too. High puternerd-peen factor.

 

I can think of better things to spend computer money on, but as a pressie it is great.

Oh I know what I'm in for don't you worry. Thing is though since I started dating her I managed to buy an appartment and have more cash than I've ever had in the past so I don't mind, well not too much anyway.,...

 

She knows how much gaming means to me so she is aware an upgrade is coming she just makes me write down what I want and creates a working budget for me to get it. I just have to sacrafice something else such as going to the bar and getting a slab instead or something like that.

 

Still though, I wish I could get my way all the time once in awhile but I dated a girl like that and girls I can walk on I sort of cheat on like a real bastard instead of dumping them...

I've had no issues with mine and by now my wsad keys have started to break down by now on previous keyboards and I've had mine for well over a year.

MX518 mouse and the Zboard Merc keyboard. There is a newer backlit version of the Merc coming out soon and I would recommend waiting to see what this is like.

 

The Merc took a lot of getting used to for me because I use a non-standard keyboard layout (right mouse is my move forward, space is my zoom) but now that I am used to it all is OK. The two gripes I have are:

 

1) It sometimes loses sync and reverts to a basic keyboard necessitating a re-boot. A new version of the software is supposed to fix this.

 

2) The numpad is crunched together with the arrow keys and thus the delete key is paired with the Numpad 1 key. This is a MAJOR PITA when using this keyboard for office work and I hate it with a passion for that reason.
