Ok guys, we are finally there, we have finished with the beta testing of the mod and are ready for you all to join us on the server.

 

Northern Exposure is a mod that has it's beginnings with Project Reality. Hurst and I have always been massive fan of Rhino's Muttrah City, the fast pace of the heli insertions and the lack of heavy firepower always made it a 'thinking mans' map. Well, we used that concept to create a mod of our own. We expanded on the theme with a more rural 'exposed' scenario, giving it an Australian feel and have added bot support so that no matter how many players are in the map, you can always have a good game.

 

The style of NE mod is loosley based on low level conflict in the north of Australia. It's focus is on heli insertion of special forces troops as well as heli support of the troops. We have cut out almost all of the heavy firepower and put the emphasis on combined airborne and infantry tactics. If you enjoy flying choppers or being a grunt and being supported by choppers then this is the mod for you.

 

We do not have the same level of complexity or realism as PR, but we do have the basics such as realistic ballistics and weapon loadouts, no name tags etc. So if you are a PR fan, then I bet that you will be an NE fan as well. Just ask Bahyle and Uncle Darth what they think, they have both been helping us out with the beta testing and I am pretty sure they will both have positive comments to say about the mod.

We are not 7 day a week players, we enjoy getting onto the server once or twice a week for a solid couple of hours gaming. At the moment we are working on Wednesday nights as our gaming night. So don't give up PR, just use NE as 'extra curricular' training for PR and join us on Wednesday nights for a good game.

Ive played the mod a number of times thru testing. Wallyjas was there at the start of Bigdy and helped start up the original forums.

 

the mod if great fun. The bots are insainly accurate so be careful. Once they know where you are it gets messy.

 

Some great content in there and the weapons are great fun. It plays alot like PR but a little faster, guns are just as deadly and working with others is a must.

 

Choopers are really nice to fly and with a few real people in the server can make for some great times.

 

Looking forward to see the end result and will be in there soon.

Actually if I remember rightly this is how it happened: Hurst met a QLD guy (Dale) playing PR on server, asked him about an Aussie server, then I spoke to himi and got the first PR Aussie server up and running, then Darth came on the scene and graciously took over the reigns on the server. Darth managed that extremely well for a few months and built up a community. He then founded the BigD gaming forum, recruited admins and has nurtured it to where it is today ...... the premier Aussie PR fourm.

 

So in short, I was there, but really had bugger all to do with the setup of this great community .... Darth is the man. Hats off to ya mate.

Yep ..... it's only one map (but two version of it). It is a modification of Zatar Wetlands. So it is not exactly Australian bush, but it looks good enough.

Yes, that's right .... you need to have the Special Forces xpansion pack installed for it to work. We don't have the 'power' that PR has and have to include content that abides by the EULA. That is why you will need to have Xpak installed in order to play.

This has probably been brought up before, if so sorry in advance.

Dunno mate, I guess it's up to the Devs to decide on that. Play the mod and see what ya think of it. You neva know maybe the Devs will play it and something may hatch from that.

NE is alota fun. I've played quite often in singleplayer,and with Hurst,,Wally J,,and even Darth on occasion on the server.

Main things I like...The helis of course,they fly/handle well and it looks great seeing them

loaded up and flying in to to target areas .

 

The different weapons available,not overboard like AIX with miniguns and sh1t,but

realistic both in faction wise and the way they sound/KILL.

Aussies (ADF) have their guns ,which include M4s,silenced MP5s Minimis and the Styer .,the KAF have eastern block weapons.

 

The vehicles ...most will seen familiar ,but the little things,like the mining

company logo on the side of the technicals..as if they have been grabbed by the

KAF ,had the windows busted out ,guns bolted on.......modified A-TEAM style you

could say..(WJ)..

 

Having to check the mini-map....there are no name tags so knowing who is where

can be tricky,the factions have different kits/clothes etc but in the middle of a gun

battle it can get very messy,you know..."the shooting stops,the smoke slowly

clears,and OH F##K,that IS a bot standing beside you..."

 

THE BOTS...!!!,these are the nastiest little mofos,I've ever come across.

I'm sure Hurst and Wally J keep them in a cage ,feed them up on red meat and

meth while poking them with sharp sticks,THEN let them out to play.

If you let your bots go in first to a flag,they will fight hard,but they are pretty

evenly matched against each other.The KAF have more firepower on the ground

(apcs/vodniks),but the ADF have the Tiger,the PC-9 and the other helis so it

kinda evens out.

The Kaf do have the advantage,and I've only seen a few times where the ADF

have really wiped them out..(more than 50 tickets left).

I got in installed just now, got in game once with my self and alot of bots but wouldnt let me change teams, try to do it again and wont let me spawn, and wont let me play single player. :S

 

So I might join in on the game if it goes tonight? Can you just do a normal vs? Turn bots down and have a 15v15 or something tonight? If im away from player vs player gaming for to long I go nuts.

It's a vs Bots game ACC1. not a PVP.

No mate ..... it's a coop mod so it will always have bots. What will happen though is as a human player joins the game, they replace a bot, so I guess if the server filled up (32 players) then there would no longer be any bots in game.

Ok so what are the exact things you need to have installed to allow this mod to run ? So far all I know is that is requires BF2 + Special Force's Expansion Pack. Does it need to be updated to any particular version do we need anything else other than those 2 installed and to simply apply your mod ?

Well assuming that you are currently running PR (which would mean that you are fully patched up) all you need in addition is Special Forces (Xpak). Then install this mod and off ya go.

Is there an alternate download link? Getting pretty slow downloads.

Would you not have to repatch to 1.41 after reinstalling SF, since the SF installation patches to 1.1?

Bah I'll try to make it in game tonight fellas I need to find my CD key cause surprise, surprise is NOT IN THE DAM CASE argh I hate people who put CD keys on those stupid booklets. >_<

Pretty sure the installer wont over write older files...but it is EA after all
