Just being watching some history channel as you do, and I found this on teh interweb. Daves War Birds - Battle Damaged-17's I think its just plane amazing how much damage theses bad boys could take.

    yeah, they flew the B-25 (**** brick house of a plane) in thunderstorms! to see where's the best place to fly in the odd chance you got caught out in a thunderstorm. Only, they didn't survive (4 planes and 8 pilots, with weather officers) they did the first few times , and the planes took amazing amounts of damage only it wasn't enough. In the end they concluded not to fly in a thunderstorm at all! even today you get the odd airline passing a thunderstorm near by and they're grounded for the next 4 months while its repaired and cleaned (from all the brown marks) lmao

    those photos reminded me of some other b-17 damage pics i came across ages ago. it showed a view down the bay doors as the payload is being delivered, only thing is theres a friendly plane in the path of the bombs and the next photo shows the whole c-ockpit of that plane gone.
