Posted September 25, 200717 yr As a commander, you should be the one with the big picture right? However if your squad leaders aren't feeding you anything, what hope do you have as to what to do? Personally I constantly ask squad leaders for situation reports, so I think a SL should know what to say when they're being asked for their status. 1. What you're doing/going to do 2. Any vehicle/heavy kit assets employed? (by 'heavy kit' I mean Heavy AT and AA) 3. Known enemy locations Those are the 3 most important items you should be communicating to your commander. http://i.imgur.com/wofKY.jpg Portfolio Site http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/OperationCrownRibbon02.jpghttp://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/opagamaserv.jpg

September 25, 200717 yr +2 there Chuc.... without the "godlike zoom " of 0.5 the commander has to make use of the info supplied by the troops. EVERYONE needs to spot before shooting, The commander is only of use if he has intel to work with, and the commander is the link that enables the intel from each squad to be passed on to the right place asap.(typing just ain't quick enough). Comunication is the key to success in PR,bugger the stats (who really cares) ,TEAMWORK will always win out against run and gun tactics... http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee118/bahlye/bahlye007/mouse_zps73307fb2.gif

How else does a whole team get pushed all the way back to the first flag if squads are not rushing like mad keeping the enemy on their heels? Speed is the key to success if you want to capitalise on any gains you have just made. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/SirChuc/smokejumper3.jpg http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/valorousunit.bmphttp://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/OperationCrownRibbon02.jpg Or as one of many thousands of Canadians have said, my guns are at the bottom of that lake. September 26, 200717 yr I have to agree with Smoke on this one but it is also key to let the Commander know what is going on so he can keep the squads moving forward. Because it really sucks to take a flag and push forward just to see that the other squad didn't defend and did the same. ---- http://img67.imageshack.us/img67/4300/usarmyltgf2.gif http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/OperationCrownRibbon.jpghttp://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/valorousunit.bmp
September 26, 200717 yr Author I also find it necessary that when a squad is on the assault, I need them feeding me info on what they're encountering, so I can grab assets from other squads to supplement the attack. Especially with armour and APCs. http://i.imgur.com/wofKY.jpg Portfolio Site http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/OperationCrownRibbon02.jpghttp://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/opagamaserv.jpg
September 26, 200717 yr Teamwork run and gun tactics work like a dream. Thats a contradiction in itself if a squad whole approach is the old 'run and gun' then there not using any team work at all. Simply playing off the squad members skill or pure luck to out kill the enemy. All the time hoping its a fair fight and its just them against infantry, or a unfair fight if there all in tanks or some such. No that sort of game play does not win round players/squads like that can't even secure the ground there on let alone there rear. A good commander doesn't get caught up in building his asset's nor doe's he try to direct single squads, he a happy little relay between squad leaders deploying his entire force where there needed most. http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa188/VisOne_Photo/Signatures%20and%20Banners/VisP.png
September 26, 200717 yr Communication from: Squad members: Some of you may usually hear me say to the entire squad right if you see something spot it out before you shoot. Or when I have sent off maybe a 3 man assault team I will ask for reports on how the approach or what ever the situation is going. IF we have a CO, I will pass the info to him BUT if he doesent respond and that I will not tell him crap. I try and use this every chance I have a proper squad operating. Like last yesterday was a brilliant day it was pure gold with the " Communications" going back and forth, and every one was following orders which was just superb. http://members.optushome.com.au/cademan/Aussie.jpg http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/infantryofficer.bmp
September 26, 200717 yr Yeah its good when you are in a good squad. You can really steamroll the opposition regardless of the skill level of the members. Its also much more fun. A good squad is worth more than the sum of its parts. Bushball Victoria
September 26, 200717 yr Damn straight mate , even better when you put it to the test in RL! mwhha good times http://members.optushome.com.au/cademan/Aussie.jpg http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/infantryofficer.bmp
September 26, 200717 yr A good squad is worth more than the sum of its parts. +1 and 2-3 squads working in unison will easily win most pub matches. IMO Run & gun (based mostly on individual skill) has a much lower success rate against an organised enemy. You see this a lot in pub matches where a dispersed attacking squad will get wiped by a squad on solid flag defence. Speed is important, but tactical positioning and maintaining flag defence are equally so. Where's the cheese? http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/2315/ubd4327.png
September 26, 200717 yr Hearing people talk "tactical" is making me wet you guys up for a game tonight? http://members.optushome.com.au/cademan/Aussie.jpg http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/infantryofficer.bmp

How so, if you stick together and move fast that's run and gun. Maybe we think about it different? I'll even bypass the enemy to get to the flag and set up defense or assualt it quickly to pull the squad I bypassed away from my support. Nothing sends people running like a flag just greyed behing you. Once you have them running back on the defensive you can overwhelm them with quick and decisive attacks with the added bonus of potential free kills when you shoot people in the back trying to retake what they just lost. My teamwork reference to run and gun does not mean run around the map aimlessly and with no objective in mind. On the attack everything needs to be done as fast as possible to not allow the enemy to regroup. To me that means run and gunning. Defense is defense, other than patrolling the flag there is not a lot to do. I'm certain we are confused as to what we each think run and gun is. September 26, 200717 yr Smokey's version of "run and gun" (known by some as "Shoot and Scoot") = Being fast on the offensive and not giving the enemy time to react or regroup. Overwhelming the enemy with sheer speed (Run), firepower (Gun), and tactics (Teamwork). VisOne's version of "run and gun" (and that of most people I think) = Every man for himself, outcome based purely on individual skill and luck. Individually determined objectives and tactics. No overall teamwork, more like playing a deathmatch. Edited September 26, 200717 yr by chambersAUS
