With added tasks required of a commander, I am finfing it difficult to maintain effective communication to the team. Here is my sollution - what are your thoughts?

I try to use a comms system when commanding, such as,

If I am calling squad 1 I will call out "squad 1 - commander" this is prompting for a "squad 1 - go ahead/recieving,standby etc" which few to none do..

Also, I expect the same in return when calling me... eg: "commander - squad 1" of which I can reply "squad 1 - (standby, go ahead etc)

I am trying to get this happening to benefit the whole team because there is nothing worse than getting VOIP from all squads at the same time & for SL's to get their squaddies & commander all happening at the same time...

Are we all able to use & promote this format?

When SL and communicating to the Commander, I try to remember to go "Squad x (message)" when talking.

When communication in a squad, I just use the visual name pop up thingy to ID the talker.

Guess we can implement this strat (esp with the commander) - would have to be with a bunch of regulars though.

easy to identify who's talking when you have the cmd screen up, but, when youre running about, driving the truck & setting buildings it all gets a bit disorganised...

I would love to see it work though...

Proper procedure modified for PR use I reckon should be

(Reciever) this is (Sender) (message), I say again (message)

Might as well omit "Over" and "Out" cause I think it just gets in the way of comms and the bitch of being on a radio net. The repetition is needed I think so that the message can be understood on the first pass.

If you want to do the whole "making sure they hear you" deelie, I support your suggestion Andy.

These prowords are also useful in making messages shorter:

RELAY - Using the commander as a communications relay to other people

ie.

SQ1 : Sunray, this is SQ1, RELAY to SQ2 APC Move to SQ1's position

Sunray: SQ1, wilco

Sunray: SQ2, this is Sunray, RELAY from SQ1, Move your APC to SQ1's position

SQ2: Sunray, this is SQ2, wilco

... I can't really think of anything else..

... Also anyone up for replacing "Commander" with "Sunray" ? 8)

I love it Chuc, exactly the type of thing I am aiming at.

The sunray bit may confuse the masses though... if its shortened, what about "coms" instead? at least this way, the novice will have more of an idea whats going on..

also what I am after is the acknowledgement to send or standby before message, so as to coordinate at times of alot of radio chatter..

Sunray... I've always thought that was a silly code-name. Lollipop, puppy-dog or pretty flower are in the same league, IMO. We usually use 'command', as in the following examples:

'Please ask command to send more mix for the ice-cream machine'

'Command, where is the soft-serve mix?'

'Command, there's a riot breaking out in the junior sailors mess...'

I reckon using command, or commander, would just make it easier for everyone. I'm pretty simple like that though :p

I do however agree that when addressing the commander people should identify themselves as in 'Command this is Squad One - Requesting soft-serve mix'. Takes that little bit more confusion out of the equation.

Yes, when addressing the commander, make sure you state what squad you are. Makes things easy.

Also, when you have called for supplies/arty/vehicle drops, make sure you inform the commander that you have called for them with a simple "Supplies up", or whatever. Because you don't always notice the requests as commander.

No shortage thank god, but it's as important to the smooth running of a ship as fuel and oil.

Anyway. Yeah. I think everyone agrees that when speaking to command you should identify yourself.

Edit: Removed a bunch of irrelevant stuff.

I was to lazy to read what everyone had wrote so sorry if someone has already mentioned this. When your in your COMMANDER VIEW default Caplocks I believe is the only time that you can click on a squad and talk to said squad leader with your normal microphone squad com. If at any other time you try you will fail and he will hear nothing. This is the reason that when your a squad leader you will constantly hear the commander spamming all squad leaders with his commander com.

Squad talk = Commander view OPEN one squad selected and using normal squad com.

All Squad leaders = Any time any where by pressing the commander com.

Alrighty Andy.. it normally runs like this:

Opening

SQ1 this is SQ2, over

SQ2 this is SQ1, send, over

SQ1, Yo momma’s so fat when her beeper goes off, people think she's backing up over

Closing

SQ2, roger over.

SQ1, this is SQ2, out.

But I we definately don't need to be this in depth.. but really the proword is SEND.

Me personally on the odd chance that I grace you all with my squadleaderage. I like to refer to the commader as "Hey you dik-ed!". I can for see great things come from this simple phrase.

You're all wrong, and I am always right, and the sooner you accept it, the happier you will be. That is all!

Va Fan Culo

Its amazing that saying "Oi. dik-hed" in an American server will earn you a one way street to a kick but in the Australian servers its as much a term of affection as it is insulting.....

I just finished (or got D/C) from a game where I was using the 'Command, squad one', 'Squad one receiving' etc. Worked like a charm, and didn't slow things down. I recommend it to all :D
