Bohemia have released what I think will be the last major update for arma 2, good timing with the release of a mod that Ive been working on coming soon

Massive server and client optimizations. steam users will get it automatically, CD users will need to go here

currently DL'ing 15 gb, no doubt there may be a workaround but I know steam, Itll find a way to redownload it anyway

 

hopefully this doesnt cause too much strain using DayZ and other mods through launchers

massive client and server side optimization. should be able to get 100 player server without to much desync or lag. also they did the gamespy conversion to steam (alot of this update has also carried over to arma 3)

also like to add that it will be alittle while before the mods catch up. so instead of getting angry that stuff breaks remember you can still use the beta to launch

i think theyll catch up reasonably quickly, seems to be a few benefits to upgrading.

thank god, armas biggest downfall.

 

All the mods would be great with like ~100-200 people, yet all the servers battle around ~50, a shame!

 

100 players wouldn't be bad at all. If only they coudl do that for arma 3..

its perfect timing (with the release of this pvp mod this week), yet I don't think ill use the patch until the mods have caught up to it, but if not ill ask for the perms to upgrade them myself. best thing about the arma community, so long as you ask 99% of the time mod makers say yes

(hot tip, if you dont want to run the 1.63 patch just run you game with the beta, seems to just skip it)
